You may want to consider buying a new or used cowl. That's what I did. The thing that causes rust underneath those panels are the rubber plates underneath that end up trapping moister. I'd look for a cowl that is rust free or has been treated.
  2. My original 5 speed shift knob was not leather. I think it was plastic? It's been years.
  3. After reading a recent thread I discovered how short the production for the 260Z (US Market) was. As we all know the 280Z debuted right after the 260, but I am wondering if Nissan had intended this all along? Judging from the few months the 260 was made, it seem like the advent of the 280 was an afterthought.....Or was the 260 planned to be a short lived production that would bridge the gap between the 240 and 280? I'm well aware of why the 260 and 280Z came about due to emission laws, etc. I also know that the 280 was only made for the US. However, did Nissan have any foresight that by the 1975 model year they would have yet another series of Z cars?
  4. Excellent find. Needs a lot of work, but many would be envious.
  5. I drove mine to work

Thanks guys I am also looking into changing out the bulbs for the gauges. I'll also have a chance to get my map light and low fuel light to work again. I am actually going to repair the clock myself with a friend who is really savvy with gadgetry. I'll look into the voltage meter. Yes, the car was off

I've been doing my research on valve adjusting. I understand it is a simple procedure. However, how do I tell the intake and exhaust valves apart? Thanks!

hey guys. Quick rookie question: What tools are needed to adjust the valves on a 78? I already have a socket set, and screwdrivers. This will be my first time. Thanks!

  17. I'm a little late to jump on this thread, but I just want to share the same sentiment along with everyone else's.....And glad you're ok. I do have to say that I hope your next Z is done as tastefully as the previous one. That car was a looker alright....Good luck.

  19. Hmmm.....I wouldn't turn this Z down but, a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine? I'm sure that's still some serious speed, but a Z should have no less than 6 cylinders, be it a Nissan, Chevy, Mazda, or any engine block dropped in there. Call my standards shallow, but after $85,000 you think perhaps a Skyline or Z32 twin turbo engine would be even greater and have the "correct" number of cylinders. Don't get me wrong....This baby looks fantastic and a thrill to own. Congrats on whoever owns it now, but I'll keep my rusty ol' L28 block, thanks!

  24. I created a new key for my car after the original was lost with no spare. Not anything fun nor something I'm glad to spend money on but at least she's back on the road....again.

Are there any pointers to this procedure? I am hoping my Haynes manual at home has this in it. I heard that generally I need to pry off a couple bolts? Thanks!
