Cylinders not working after su conversion
I don't understand this! What i meant was that if he undestand the simple function of SU's he would also know what is the problem, at least 80%, witch i think he do by now. And if it won't work he can always EFI the car. Chris

Cylinders not working after su conversion
Maybe the float bowls sits in different hights, still i think it is a adjustment problem, SU's are simple carbs and it seems that your front one is starving, so if there is no gasket leaks, i still vote for incorrect float hight.. Do you understand the SU function? EFI the bastard:eek: Chris

Cylinders not working after su conversion
Shadesh, i don't know the measurement for 3 screw carbs, but where dit you get those measurements?, common sense to me would be that there have to be the same front and rear, i just looked at my FSM and the 4 screws have to be 14-15 mm. front / rear. Chris

Might be going to Germany, should I take the 240?
Mechanichs isn't something to worry about, a Z is a simple car to work on, parts can be hard to get but you can allways get them shipped from US. One thing you shall have in mind is that there is salty roads, or can be during winter time so if you bring it, it is summer drive only. I know of two other Z guys in Germany, so there is help out there. If you plan on taking a trip up north, come and say hi, i'm about 8 hours from Geilenkirchen. Chris

Ugly misfire
And while you have your hands on the dizzy, you might as well take it apart, clean it up and re grease it, check if the weights and springs work properly. This could be an internal advance problem. Good luck Chris

Series 1 Engine Paint Plan - Details Please
Les at Classic datsun was the first to offer this, it should be the correct mix, the engine paint color is a left over from the time when the Japs was assembling engines for the Brits, so i wouldnt be surpriced if VB have it. Chris

Valve Adjusting
I don't know how long you are in the progress of solving this, my advise to you on this is to do the following: Pour some gas or diesel in the intake runner, with the intake valve closed, wait for an hour and see if there is any fluid on top of the pistons or if it's still in the runner, then do the same with the exhaust, if both valves can hold up the fluid you can pour some on the top of the piston to check if the rings are leaking. Hope this will help Chris

Flat top pistons
Deck is surfaced, but did Datsun ever come with relief's ? I once heard that the relief's dont even match up with the valves, to me they are just less compression and more chance of detonation. Dave a set is with pins and rings, price is $180 - 200 depending on model, http://www.coolparts.com/index.php?p=catalog&mode=search&search_in=all&search_str=ry+2516&x=0&y=0 you can look it up. The car use to have reliefs in pistons, i just like to know if it is necessary or not. Chris Btw, Dave there is a thread about LED lights going on at HybridZ

Flat top pistons
Hi all I'm out looking after pistons for my L24, i have sourced down a supplier with very interesting prices, they have 2 kind of flat tops, the one with valve relief's and the other without. The seller say that the one without (Ry 2516) is for 70 - 72 and the one with relief's (RY 6335) is for 73. My car is a 73, still i prefere pistons without relisf's The only thing i can think could be the reason for the pistons having relief's is due to larger valves in the E88. My question is, will the one without relief's work ? motor is bone stock, except of round top SU's and header, any input is appreciated. Chris
