Skinny vs. Fat....
"Wider Is Better" "Where the rubber meets the road" Wider tires mean more grip, plain and simple, however! if your car doesn't generate a whole ish load of Ponies and torque... you wont be able to turn those big ole tires over...which will bring you to a lower time... Matt

What L series is this?
i think im just going to leave it with the L24, i was thinkingf about the head mod he had on that site, cept doing it with an E88 head on an L24 motor, might be intersting. I was trying to keep from doing an engine swap, internals were ok but im tossing ideas. here is my plans so far. L24 Block with L24 flat top pistons E88 head with the mod described on a P79 head here (original compression 8.8 final compression 10.06 raise of 1.26 done to an E88 head on L24 with flats [ ESTIMATED! 1.26 increase also ] 8.76 + 1.26 10.02 ) with 1mm HKS gasket for a CR of 10.24 headers, exhaust, maybe a 5-Spd and Diff swap but i guess time will tell. CR questions...
you can get 9.73, but its not easy L24 rods L28 crank Dished pistons Fly cut 1.00 2MM head gasket E31 head 1.00 over bore not only does your compression go up though it leaves you with a 3L engine too. Matt

What L series is this?
when you say bored over what do you mean? What is actually involved in boring over a motor? The only way i can see to turn an L24 into a 2.8L is by putting L28 crank and rods, and then "over boring" .12 inches. that leaves the displacment at 2753 and with flat-top pistons and an E31 head your compression is left at 10.5 ( which is as high as you can go on pump gas 10.1 is fine just so you know ) with the more comman E88 head your compression goes to a 10.06:1 which is more workable and easier to maintain. What L series is this?
if you have the calculator check this out.... L24 block Ld28 crank L28 rod L28 flat pistons E31 head this leaves the deck height at 2.030mm add a 2mm head gasket, your at .030 mm ( calculator doesn't figure for head gasket deck height ) check out the compression and displacment...i know 11.5 is high now, flip the head to an E88...and fly cut the pistons .5 still 2.7Litre's displacment, but now the compression is at a workable 10.41 : 1 =) what do you think? What L series is this?
what is actually involved in over-boring an engine? Im not talkin bout just throwin stuff in, im trying to work stuff out, see what i can do to increase the power of the engine, and i like the fact that it probably hasn't been done the L28 crank and rods in the L24. Matt

What L series is this?
Is becuase the deck high with the L28 crank and the L16 rods is perfect! to fit into an L24 engine and increase displacement from stock L24 - 2393 L24 with L28 crank L16 rods L24 pistons HKS 1mm Head gasket - 2565 compression L24 E88 head - 8.76 : 1 with above - 9.28:1 hows that?

What L series is this?
I was playing with my L-engine calculator, and i saw some stuff that i just dont know.... What are L16 rods? L14? L18 L20a? FJ20? and all those things?? Matt

240Z for USD$18,000 ?????
If the car has been so Pristinely restored and is in such AWSOME condition, what about the little things the owner forgot to do. For a car to be worth 18 grand, every damned little detail better be taken care of. And this guy, didn't even have the simple taste to put the emblems back on the car.... which makes you wonder what ELSE he forgot to do in his "ground up resto" Matt

what cam would you use?
alright so what cam would you use for an L24 street? Matt

The L-Engine Calculator says....huh?
well my worry is the deck clearence...are the pistons gonna stick out the top? and there was a displacement inscrease also, the stock 240Z has 2393 ( 2.4L )CC's of displacement, when replaced with the L28 crank is ups to 2565CC's of displacment. ( 2.6L ) Matt p.s. if i use the std gasket i get a 10.3CR...easily run that on 91 Octane, also a thing of octane booster each tank doesn't bother me much, i dont drive much =)

The L-Engine Calculator says....huh?
The L engine calculator that someone posted on the site.... Here it is here for those who dont have it.... Well i was fiddling ( which i often find myself doing....idle hands...well you know ) and i was thinking about putting an L28 crank into an L24 ( interesting idea eh? ) well with the stock 240Z head from 71 - 73 ( e88 ) the compression jumped to a nice 12.54....a lil high for my taste =) and the gas HOWEVER when mixed with a P79 head and a 1mm HKS gasket the compression goes to a nice 10.6 : 1....( 10.3 with the std gasket ) now would this be a nice lil compression set-up or what? do you think it would work? what im curious about is the deck clearence? will my pistons come over the deck? out? Tell me what you think.. Matt

what cam would you use?
i wasn't going to go 3.1 dont worry, i just thought it interesting that tit said 2.8 big bore kit and it said it would be 3.1 Litres..typo maybe.... Really just looking for Cam recomendations... Matt

switching differentials......
how difficult is it to swap out R180's....to one with a ratio more geared toward accel if the 240 already has a R180? what diff. would you recomend? P.S. I intend to stay with the L24 and just play with it. Matt

Valves...which? what?
yah i know i got alot of questions after visiting this site =) The Valves they have for sale here...do they flow better than the 280z valves that everyone says to replace into your 240Z head? Nismo Valves Thanks Matt P.S. what valves do people say are the best flowing for the 240 Zed Heads?
-
switching differentials......
first, which is better to switch into a 240Z......R180 or R200 ( better meaning easier to do and till get better perf. ) second...does the kit and parts they sell HereNismo handle everything you would need to get from a donor car? Matt
-
An Idea....
swithing the L24 crank with the L28 crank would add some displacement right? i THINK the L24 rods are longer, but if not would switching them with the L28's add displacement? of course some work would need to be done to compensate..but what do you think? Matt

what cam would you use?
Nismo Cam's Lets say your me. An 18 year old guy who can't stand people to be beatin in a street race by any ricer ( less the S2000 and NSX i would be happy to have one race me! ) which cam off of that page would you recomend for me? and what other mods would you say i should do? P.S. im just putting ideas together for a project. I intend for it to be an early 240...hopefully 70 - 71 cause i like the emblems more and plus i get to say its a 70 =) but definetly a 240. P.S.S. also on this website they have a 2.8L Big Bore kit for the 240...but when i clicked on it, it was the same as the 3.1L Big Bore Kit....ideas? Matt

the ultimate question
I REALLY appreciate everyones responces to my question. Now when you say change out all the bushing are you talking about on page 64 of the MSA catalog..the Urethane bushing kits? and is there a book or something i should get? becuase im not sure exactly what your talking about.. when you say drop everyting do you mean the rear mounts and driveshafts and front steering rack and so on and so forth? as i said im really new and being detailed is the best way to keep me from asking the same questions over and over again thanks alot for your help Matt:cool:

i already read http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html.... but i just want a straight forward explination...how tough is it for a novice? should i get some SERIOUS help or will i be able to slowly piece it together in my little brain? or should i.....( dun dun DDUNNN ) take it to a shop?

the ultimate question
how difficult is that to do? Matt P.S. know any websites with mod stuff for the L24...i find em for the L28 but the 24 is lacking... Matt
-
the ultimate question
well the problem with that is im trying to steer clear of the engine swaping ( e.g L28 in a 240 ) if i get a 240, its gonna have a L24 in it ( unless it already came with the L28 or no engine at all which is a different story ) 260 L26, 280 L28...so, which in your opinion is the best to beat the ricers and the stang fags.. Matt
