Brake Booster original finish??
Here is a pic of the new NOS booster. If you have Microsoft Office Picture Manager or another photoshop program you should be able to zoom in on it and get a good idea of the gloss factor for the finish. I hope this helps. Bob

Brake Booster original finish??
I have a new NOS booster still in the box from Nissan, for reference, that is not high gloss. It is slightly less than high gloss. I would gauge it to be about 90%. If you were to apply polish to this booster it would bring the luster to a full gloss look. So I hope this gives you some reference. If you are spraying it try to avoid making the final coat a wet one. By putting it on a little drier it will keep the gloss down. I hope this helps. I would take a pic of the booster I have but I am afraid the flash will distort it but if you need on let me know and I will try. Bob

NOS Door Panels Listed on Ebay
Here is a tip on how to restore your chrome strips on both the door panels and the 1/4 trim panels. Go to a hobby shop that deals in RC airplanes. You can buy two different types of covering and trim there. They make trim sheets that are approximately 36" long and 6' inches wide in a chrome finish. This trim has adhesive applied to the backing so you just need a long straight edge and you can cut a narrow strip and apply it to the old mouldings on the panels. They also make chrome like covering that it used on the airplane wings and fuselage that is applied using a heat iron. This may stick better but is harder to apply if you do not have all the tools. I hope this helps save you some bucks. Good luck

Vintage License Plates
There are several sources for replica vintage plates on the internet. Here are just a couple http://www.cr8apl8.com/ http://www.licenseplates.tv/index.php A lot of the hot rodders, restorers in CA use vintage plates for their cars. They generally use a separate small metal tag to afix the sticker on rather than illegally put it on the replica one. Good luck.

TERRIBLE NEWS! ... Nis-san Dream Car Ga-rage Crushed?
Zbane, no problem in grabbing the thread. I had posted that knowing that there was a huge misconception regarding the fate of the Heritage Collection. The following pictures give credance that the cars do still exist. One picture is of a SMZ Twin Turbo that was sold. If you look close you will see the #46 510 in the background along with several other cars. The 240's in question are parked over on the back right hand corner of the building. I have also included another shot of the Nissan Heritage Race cars, including the #46 on display at the Lane Motor Museum just a couple of months ago. The others are display plaques for some of the other cars that are on loan at the Lane. Zulaytr

TERRIBLE NEWS! ... Nis-san Dream Car Ga-rage Crushed?
"because in it's hurry to meet re-nault's deadline to pack up all their stuff for the move, somebody on top ordered all the collection to be crushed THAT'S RIGHT ... CRUSHED!!!" Mat, I am not sure where you got your information but you are not correct in you assumptions. Most of the Nissan Heritage Collection, about 36 including the #46 BRE 510, have a new temporary home at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. If you go to their website you will see that many are now on display for the the public to view. They rotate the vehicles for display and by they way they have never looked better. While they were housed in the warehouse in Gardena they were keep out of public view and were just collecting dust. To the point about some being sold off to employees that is correct. They did sell only a handful to employees and two Nissan dealers picked up some 240Z's. There are some Heritage Vehicles still on loan to the Peterson Museum as well. I hope eveyone has a chance to come the Nashville as see the collection some day in the near future. Zulaytr Bob

any 240Z concours standards published?
Bob, Carl, Chris and the other previous posts all make very good points for you to consider. My comments are intended to provide some additional thoughts regarding the actual judging experience for both the ZCCA and a Concours Show. When you enter into either show keep in mind that the judges actual knowledge of what is correct or not will vary greatly. However, the obvious items that stand out will often give them plenty of items to consider. For instance if you use band type radiator hose clamp versus the wire type it would easy for them to take points off given the general knowledge that the band type was not OEM. To your question about aftermarket rubber or urethane those may be much harder to evaluate as long as they have the same look/color as OEM. Generally, judges use the "one knee" rule when looking at the undercarriage. So that aftermarket suspension bushing may be harder to see so points would not be taken off. Again, if you are planning on going to a non-ZCCA Concours event the judges may not realize you have round top carbs instead of flat top ones. So you might get away with them, But in either case cleanliess, detail and the obvious are key elements. I have seen in some instances I have watched judges go back and forth between other like vehicles in a class to compare what is correct and what is not. If this happens you might get busted on the wrong carbs. Good luck with your decision on your restoration project. You can get great satisfaction no matter which direction you pursue. One final thought- no matter how you proceed should you show your car your car- Don't let the judging get to you! Showing your restored car should be a fun experience. There have been many posts on this site and others regarding why one car won and the other lost. If the car doesn't win take a look at it and find ways to improve it. After all a true restoration project is never done.

240Z Registered for Barrett-Jackson 2007
I had a chance go to the BJ Auction on Thursday and see this car before it went on the block. The price it went for was probably a fair value if you really looked at it in person. Some have already commented on the green flames but according to the listing it was a custom "restoration". The underside looked like someone used a black spray can and painted everything. Everything means nuts, bolts, brackets, brake lines etc. All things that should not be painted black under a "restoration". But it looked consistent to say the least. Over the past few weeks several posts have been made about the values of Z's. Even though this one did go through the Barrett-Jackson I hope no one is influenced by what this car brought given that it is a modified driver, not a trailer queen Stock restoration. Just one person's opinion. Bob

Check the price on these door panels!
At Christmas time there was another set of NOS, still in the plastic wrappers door trim panels with a buy it now price of $650. So if the price now is just about twice that then the next listing in a couple of months would listed for $2500!! But considering the price of NOS dashes and other real hard to find parts in a couple of years that may be bargain basement pricing.

Seat foam
"I'm ordering a seat cover kit from Les Cannaday at Classic Datsun and need to replace the foam on the drivers seat." You should be able to have Les get the foam for you as well. The company that makes it is Distinctive Industries. You can check their web site for your application. I am 6'2" and yes you do sit taller but to the earlier posts check for spaces. Also you might take a look at the webbing. It too will sag over time but you can either replace it or tighten it up by repositioning the hog ring. As far as installation the only tools you will need (it will make it much easier) is get a pair of hog ring pliers and some extra rings. You will need to use them during the re-assembly. The job is not complicated or difficult. Good luck.

Winter Park Concours- Sunday Oct 22
If anyone from any of the Florida Z clubs will be strolling through the Winter Park Concours on Sunday be sure to stop by and say hello. Look for the orange 240Z, it shouldn't be too hard to spot. I attended the event last year, without my Z and it was a very nice show in downtown Winter Park on Park Ave. Z you there! Bob

Restored 1970 for sale. Ebay
I find it rather ironical that the individual you are referencing is busting your butt because you used the term "restored"! I remember seeing the posted pictures of his car on the eBay. In his posting he had pictures of the engine bay which had several non-original parts on it. I seemed to remember the picture of the aftermarket radio as well! So it appears the following statement should be classified as incorrect as well. ".... just sold the lowest mileage series one vehicle in the world. With 14,ooo showroom original rust free miles" So you used the term "restored"! That is often misused, but the bottom line is you have a great looking car. If I did not already have 3 Z's I would do a "buy now" in a heartbeat. So don't let anyone rattle you and good luck with the sale of the car. Bob

Nissan Racing Heritage Vehicles
Chris, Thanks for the inquiry. I basically parked the 240Z after the convention until the middle of Aug due to the relo from Cali to TN. I am going to a show next weekend near Knoxville with it. Maybe I will see some of the Classic Zcar Club members there? I do have a question for you regarding how good your memory is from the convention judging? I will IM you on it. Bob

Anybody recognize this car?
"I'd be interested to know why a '72 with 44k original miles has the rear hatch glass with vertical lines. Something seems amiss." The rear glass is correct. There is a misconception that ALL 72's had horizontal lines. When actually the production change did not occur until Dec 71 so that means the early 72's had vertical lines. The VIN number would put it in that production timeframe. Bob 72 240Z 94 300ZX TT SMZ 96 300ZX NA

Glove Box door and light switch
To remove the warp in the door you can use a heat gun to warm the door then apply pressure on it. Be sure to heat up the lid carefully. Keep the heat gun moving across the top edge and on both sides. Lay the door on a flat surface and then apply pressure gently. If you take your time you can straighten it back out again. Bob 72 240Z

Disconnected Wires in Steering Column
The Green and Yellow go to the stop light switch. You should have two GY wires that will plug into the wires from the switch. If you only have one check that something is plugged into one of the wires that shouldn't be. The Green and white feed you taillights. That circuit runs through your ignition and combination switch. Check all of those leads for a wire plugged in wrong. Good Luck. Chasing a wiring problem is tedious and frustrating. Bob 72 240 Z 96 300ZX
