  1. Yes, Arne, you are correct. They did end up on Mike's yellow car for a spell. There is so much "try this try that" goes on around here, you can't tell the players without a program.
  2. That was the same trip. Solvang Saturday for the roadster folks, Orange on Sunday for the Zers.
  3. The triple setup Steve did performs beautifully. The first year he had them on the white car, the run to Orange and back netted about 28 MPG. They have been flawless. And after that show I had people comment about how clean that engine compartment was at the show. When I asked what they thought of the triple carb setup most said they didn't even noticed them, the job he did was that subtle. The blue car they are now on belongs to a friend here locally and I don't know how that happened..... nyuck nyuck
  4. Measure the length of the metering needles and let us know. That will tell if those kits are for 46mm Z car carbs or 38mm Fairlady carbs. I'm assuming the carbs were missing.... It looked like the fuel line had the white thread inner reinforcement. If so send those sailing over the fence into the neighbor's back yard..... Does look like it has been around the world under water.....
  5. Event photos are up at www.datsunsnw.org. Pretty scruffy looking bunch.
  6. There was no question we were going to get out. They had predicted rain today all week so it was more a matter of what we were going to get out INTO..... Just about sundown the wind kicked up and the rain started to fall as today's inclement weather hit. What's that they say about a blind hog?
  7. What a day!! Car count was 27ish. People count was 40ish. Roads were good all day dry, no rain. Good lunch and tire kicking. Shot some good video and Julie datsunsnw webmaster par excellance will get a video tale up as soon as time allows. One of those rare days when maybe first liar did have a chance.....
  8. Those brass nuts are what I suggested you cut off of the outer housing. Why do I have this uneasy feeling?
  9. Too bad it has to be that way but it sounds like you are getting eyes crossed and Tees dotted. Money in hand is hard to backtrack on.....
  10. There is an old saying to the effect that: "Nothing is as good as or as bad as it first appears". Your engine problems need to be explored fully to find out just what is going on and even though this deal sounds perhaps brought to you through providence, it may in fact be a smoldering bag of well, you know.
  11. Those carb manifold setups are so valuable ask if they'll sell you the motor for half price and keep it......
  12. Cut that extra goobery stuff off the end of the cable housing. Not the cable just the housing. You want the housing firmly mounted so that action at the lever end turns into reaction IN THE CABLE at the carb end. If the lever is making the housing move you are defeating the purpose.
  13. When you say new choke cable which choke cable 73 or the earlier cable? If it's an unmodified 73 the ends of the housing will need that excess "stuff" cut off to work correctly.
  14. We will be gathering in about 24 hours to do just that, rain or shine. We are going to try and get up some video to post so everyone can go on the Polar Bear Cruise vocariously. www.datsunsnw.org Good to get out and blow off the stink!!
  15. Hogie, Just curious here, but when you turn the throwout bearing, does it turn smoothly or feel like it has dry chunky balls in there? Either way, replacing is a good move now. That 300-400 miles you've put on the clutch has been with the T/o working all the time.
  16. In agreement with what Arne said. I would however like a bag of what the folks at CNN are smoking though. I did send this along to Steve to review as he gets the white car ready to sell.
  17. All your pieces look fine. I'm thinking mis match of parts. Would like to see a picture of that throwout bearing.
  18. If you want to shake off the noob status as it relates to SU carbs buy our JUST SUs dvd.
  19. With the slave rod removed and the rubber fork boot removed can you see in the with a mirror or something and see that the fork is pulling the T/O bearing off the pressure plate fingers. That would be the place to start. Around the shop one of Murphy's Laws is "you used the wrong collar". Doesn't matter what was in there before. The other gottcha if the collar is right, "they gave you the wrong style of T/O bearing". Where's a picture of yours? It should show where the fingers have been touching that raised area around the face of the bearing.
  20. until
www.datsunsnw.org for details. Mid Willamette Valley OREGON
  21. Let us know if the water pump was, in fact, frozen up....
  22. You put on a rebuilt MC correct. Any rebuilt unit should be opened up and washed out totally before installing. I have seen way to much left behind in the way of shavings and grit which can chew up seals in relatively short order.
  23. Next comes Brake and Clutch Hydraulics. Worst case get 'em all flushed well with new clean fluid.
  24. You'll see some of those next Sat at the Polar Bear Cruise. Be there or be square.
