  1. Man, that's a stumper. Hard to imagine that with only 3+psi fuel pressure that there would be enough residual pressure, after shut off, to overfill the floatbowl enough to run out the mouth of the carb. You are new to the car, right? First thing I'd do is to look into what's there in the way of fuel pump/s. Assuming it's a 240 there should be a mechanical pump on the side of the head and there may be an electric pump back by the tank. Sum total output should not exceed like 3+ psi. Let us know what you find. And do not assume the previous owner/s played by the rules.
  2. I believe the plan (as stated above) is to use your existing "struts" and installing 280ZX "inserts" in them and re-installing them (the 810 struts). I'd also bet any year 280ZX strut (with the spacer to make up the difference in length) will work. This is a pretty straight forward deal. If the right inserts aren't available any more, a shorter set in their place, will do just fine.
  3. I just now looked at the Hemmings ad for the blue car. Anyone want to guess how many times I stumbled over and around that car when it was being brought back to life in Steve Epperly's shop?? If the prices we hear it has sold and resold for are accurate, someone has taken a real serious hit on that car. And the refrain of "it's a small world? comes ringing into ear shot.....
  4. Hell, I'd aleady assumed it made too much sense to actually work. Just kinda the way the world is anymore. The more sense something makes the less likely it is to work. GRRrrr. Oh, and Andy, You need carbs. That I know already...... Nyuck nyuck
  5. Andy and All Classicers, I was just thinking what a sweet opportunity for someone with the right body and maybe a fresh engine and tranny in it, to load that badboy up with new belts, hoses, u-joints, wheel bearings, strut cartidges, brake MC & slave & wheel cylinders and rubber brake lines, weather strip kit, (if ever available agin) you know all that stuff we run down to the parts store for, and sell it to Andy as a kit car. Hell, even rings, bearing and gasket set for an engine and bearings and synchro for a transmission if he was so inclined. I'd hate to imagine what a pain it would be for him to source all that stuff in Poland but every little project would be pure misery I'd guess. OH, and Andy, Once you see the Lseries Z engine you'll feel like you are back in Mercedes land because this is a design Mercedes could not make work. But the design and engineering side of NISSAN did. I would think unloading a Z at the docks, that needs to be done, loaded with the parts to do it would be attractive. It sure would be to me if I was that far out of the supply loop. I would be happy to mention it to The owner of ZTherapy when and if he ever shows up to sork.....
  6. NISSAN 350Z wins gold in GT2. Good race..... And our guys are at the Sprint Car Museum in Knoxville Iowa today. GRRrrrrr!
  7. Why do you feel you need "THE BIG ONE"? The starter relay I run is one of those little plastic relays and has been doing it's job for years since replacing the big ol' clanking banging Ford relay many moons ago. A relay is a relay and you're not trying to power Las Vegas.....
  8. Well, the speedcasttv is working for me again. Without it working at race time, it forced me to go to a froiend's house and watch the race with 3 other Datsun shop "regulars"...... which was more fun than here at home by myself. Oh, and forgot to mention Pam said there are torn up caonpies everywhere, things are ripped and twisted all over. Even a big car hauler had it's canopy folded back over the trailer. There's a buck eigthy five shot in the butt....
  9. I'd assume Greg was steamed when that first yellow came out but probably towards the end of the race he might have preferred seeing another. The foibles of racing. Talked to Pam after the race and what happened to hold Steve so perpetually in that position was that a piece of roll bar foam got loose and wedged under the gas pedal acting as a governor. The guys in the next pits got it and marked it with duck tap and a Sharpie as "Driver Excuse #21".... Overall Pam sounded happy. Heading out tomorrw after the races and heading for the sprint car Museum in Knoxville IA. These guys don't miss a motoring nothing if it's within a reasonable distance.
  10. Mini Motor Home class. Mine has the bedroom in the back..... Gonna be severly pissed if speedcasttv doesn't get things functional by 11:30.
  11. Got up early and watched the first race. Just got back from pool therapy and can't get speedcasttv to open the races..... Pam said there are like 69 cars in the spec miata race. Even on a 4 mile track that would constitute grid lock. Gonna be interesting to watch that one. On the radio they were calling for flooding rains in Wisconsin. It's a big state but some of the camera shots of distant skies during the first race showed clouds blacker'n the inside of your hat.....
  12. And then there were two. Just got off the phone with Steve and he said the third Z was totaled in yesterday's session. Apparently head on into a Miata that had looped just beyond the kink. Everybody is okay, but I have to ask myself (since we're on the subject of which cars weigh how much) which car would I want to be in when that 90 mile an hour impact took place? When you figure the competitor cost involved in doing the Runoffs, to toss the cost of a car in on top of that..... BRrrrrr! And yes, feel free to call tomorrow, but understand the cell phone (which is "communication central" for Zed Therapy) will be buried at the bottom of my sock drawer. nyuck nyuck
  13. Jmark, Do you know what weight these Miatas are required to carry? Apparently they are so light they are real easy on brakes compared to the Z. Just killing time waiting for tomorrow.
  14. Final Qualifying session Steve will be starting twelfth having peeled five and a half seconds off of yesterday's time. Looking at #1 & #3 starting positions it appears that knowing the race track has it's benefits. Based on where these two live this has to be home track for both. Are these two brothers? Don't anybody call mid-day Friday bugging me wanting to buy stuff!!
  15. I just watched the GT2 race from last year's runoffs. Boy, that is a long drawn out affair of a race track. Hooeee!
  16. Hey, this seems to have gone from a friendly public service announcement to I took you guys to raise!! kidding, just kidding!! Here's what I know. Pam said this morning that (as she said yesterday) it was hotter than yesterday by a fair amount, BUT the skies were still ugly. You flat-landers know what the next possibility is..... I told her that if those ugly clouds turn a sickening green to head for a culvert 'cause the canopy over the racecar will be on it's way to Kansas...... She just called again and said Ira went out just long enough to scuff some tires and he's still shown #2 qualifier from yesterday. Steve, however, was a couple of seconds faster than the third Z whose name escapes me and there's more left. Gotta love cell phones and the internet.....
  17. The E Production race is Friday at 1:30 Central time. All good loyal Z owners should call in sick ...... Carry on and thanks for the link. Takes some of the sting of having to stay home and keep the home fires burning, out of it.
  18. Just got off the phone with Pam. Steve's lack of times was due to the transponder not working. He got in a full session on the track though which is imperative on a new track. It's supposed to warm up into the 80s tomorrow which should allow everyone to get dialed in with less iffy conditions. They have one session tomorrow, one on Wednesday and the race on Friday. Signing autographs and kissing babies on Thursday maybe?
  19. Had a Maxima that did the same thing. Matchbook module on the distributor would heat up and shut down and by the time I'd coast into somewhere to check things out it have cooled off enough to work again. Much prefer the remote module set-up......
  20. I do wish you wouldn't say "stack up against each other"..... Gives me the heebygeebies...... Nyuck nyuck
  21. I was just looking through the EProduction entry list for this year's Runoffs. There appears to be thirty entries in that class with only three Z's and out of that whole group only two from west of Kansas. Up jumped the economy I'm guessing..... I only spotted one roadster and one 510 in the other production classes, maybe a 510 in GTL. Good luck everyone. That's not a very big Datsun banner........
  22. I believe you'd be looking down the gun barrel of a cobbled up mess, and one with no particular advantages. We bone out VG30 cars here all the time for next to nothing, 'cause that's all they are worth. The hubs might be the only thing practical out of this whole deal and not more work than it's worth.
  23. The value of that car is strictly what YOU are willing to pay for it. Remember it will more than likely need everything. One thing you don't want to end up with is 20 grand in the nicest ten thousand dollar Z out there.
  24. The 4 screw gaskets we sell today do both 46mm Hitachis and HS4 SUs. One carb is the dup of the other only metric.
  25. Beyond what Guy said, which is all good, the block will dictate to the machine shop and you what's needed vs. what can be reused. As far as machine shops are concerned for a driver engine a good machinist need not be schooled skilled and up to speed on Datsun specific hardware. Open the book, find the page, set up the machine and stand by.....
