Wow, had no idea I could go thru this being so totally fubar. Just called my friend that owns the glass shop, apologized for my business and that I would hence forth and ever more deal with JC whitney who I know values my business. Personally keepint the doors open on a warehouse in Chicago doesn't do anything for me. Helping to keep the lights on in a warehouse in Portland does......

http://www.kirotv.com/news/22747019/detail.html Here's a feel good story from Seattle. You know you are going to have a bad day when six police cars pull up to your trailer just after you arrived home with your newly stolen 510.

I'm surprised no one has tried going to a local glass shop for channel. My local glass shop has a catalog of a bazillion different channels. He can have what I need here in a day or two from his warehouse supplier. One need not go across the country or around the world for stuff you can get in your own back yard......

NA - normally aspirated.... non-turbo AT - Automatic Transmission
  5. Well, actually all the datsun carbs are Hitachis. They were made under license from the British company that makes SUs. We tear down enough of both to go on to say that it's our feeling that Hitachi did a better job building them than did the Brits. FWIW Castings, machine work, etc.....
  6. Ah Ha! I saw this thread pop back up ad said to myself "self, I bet Guy found a solution" and sho nuff!! Good job.

Now that's rewarding. Nothing adds as much enjoyment to this hobby as having someone to share it with. It's the old "two heads are ......... ".
  8. Would have been a whole lot easier to gring the nipple off that bleeder screw. You can bench bleed the MC on the workbench thus never having to touch the bleed screws on the car. With thinner insulators watch for possible interference between the now longer studs and the back side of the carb bodies.
  9. Have you checked with Jasper Engines to see if they could use them for cores? Just a thought.....

    Where in Oregon are you?
  11. If Zed Finding can get the seals, they are better off than we are, as we haven't been able to get the stuff from NISSAN for a long time. Of course, that holds true for several items NLA here in the states but still available in Canada. Steve has found a window insulation extrusion at Home Depot that can be made to work (with a razor blade) and doesn't show when the air cleaner housing is assembled.
  12. Now I'm sure most everyone is aware of the big car series but be advised that the 2.5 Trans Am small car series was won by, you guessed it, the Datsun 510. Nice job Brock Racing Enterprises. Not even a factory effort. Should a copy of "Against All Odds" present itself, watch it. Catalogs 2 winning years in the series for the 510.

Gary my boy, let me say that even we at ZTherapy miss you..... Are you going to do any side work?

We could probaly start a Heli-Coil thread but what the heck. Do Heli-Coil kits come with the correct drill and tap for the particular kit? Been a long time since I've had the need for one and the memory fails..... Heli-Coils are great parts saver items. Also I have three taps that do the vast majority of thread chasing on datsuns 6mmX1.0 8mmX1.25 & 10mmX1.5. Those 3 taps and matching dies should chase just about anything a Datsun will throw at you. I bought a cheapie set of taps and dies years ago at a traveling tool sale for like $30 or somesuch. Have since used 3 or four and the rest haven't left the box they came in. I always thought if I wore out or broke a particular piece I'd replace it with a good one but I haven't even hurt one of the cheapies....

Yet, we had the second warmest January on record this year here in Salem. Seattle had the warmest on record. El Nino is what is causing both of our weather/s.

Realistically speaking, FREE is not a very sound decision making basis, especially when it's a non main stream big ol honkin' block.....
  18. The polar bear came and went today with a total vehicle count right at 30. It was cool and drizzly as is typical of the Willamette Valley this time of year but a good time was had by all except Gary perhaps. I'll let him comment. Photos are posted at www.datsunsnw.org on the home page. Click the photo to open more......

Arnie, Please be advised your carbs are in the hands of the man in the big brown truck. Get everything else in that engine compartment spiffed up to match, you'll be pretty close to done......
  20. We'll be having a fun run this coming Saturday leaving from the Enchanted Forest parking lot about 10AM. That's just south of Salem on the east side of the freeway. We'll be catching some cool backroads, some covered bridges and lunch along the way. Sounds like everyone has cabin fever so if you are among 'em join in the fun......

Yessir by garn!! We got his money now. Steve said he'd maybe have time to knock your carbs out tonight and get them headed your way before the weekend. We are a service organization..... a non-profit service organization. That website for the body related skills is www.paintucation.com. Tell Kevin I sent you.
  22. Two names that come to my mind as guys that would race anyrthing with wheels on it would be A.J. and Kenny Schrader. Oh, and I suppose Mario should be included.... F1, USAC, NASCAR.... plus who knows what I'm missing. How about the Unsers Al & Bobby, Sprints, Indy, Pikes Peak (now there's a venue). The Unsers owned Pikes Peak for years (literally generations). This is a good question, thanks.
  23. I'd say it's time to dive into a bone yard and buy some locks that have that function working then take them to a locksmith and have them keyed to your keys. That part is no big deal.
  24. Sounds like a block freshen up would do you. The head is done plus the other micsellaneous items. The total pain to machine a block and put rings and bearings in it, along with a crank, might not be all that extreme. There certainly ought to be Z shops in the area. We deal with a couple on our carbs..............
  25. We'll keep our eyes open for carb sets being peddled...... You never know....
