  1. So when you move the choke lever in the car the fuel nozzles under the carbs drop down some? Putting your foot on the "foot feed" (old timey term) does nothing to feed gas during the starting process.
  2. ... things happening at Laguna Seca in conjunction with vintage events during the summer. Search for info on the ZONC organization. Z Owners of Northern CA or somesuch.
  3. ... www.motoringjstyle.com for info on a one day get together in July in Vallejo. Isn't there a show at Blackhawk every year?
  4. ... that the clubs' display took home the second place "display" trophy. Way to go guys. Hellova job for a first time effort. I now have a queery in with the Council VP about how many clubs were displaying. If it turns out to be 2, you'll hear nothing further on the subject. Nyuck nyuck...
  5. Arne, I was taken by the '36 Ford with the straight 8 Buick and a track roadster kinda nose. Somebody has to love those ugly ducklings. May as well be us huh? As far as inroads with the rodders are concerned, I'm really waiting for the Multnomah Hotrod Councils first outdoor event where a full showing of Datsuns Northwest member vehicles can decend upon their gathering as a group. We're just shooting to change some perceptions here, not taking over the world. Anyone who would like to join in the All Datsun fun, join the club.....
  6. The yellow dime, the red roadster, the 300 and the 280zx.... Don't feel sorry for the others as they only entered to show, not to be judged. I'm curious to hear what, if anything, the club display might have won. The tear down crew had to leave before those awards were given out. Apparently the majority of comments that were forthcoming from members of the Hotrod Council that puts this show on were very complimentary of the display, the cars and the people.
  7. Steve owns ZTherapy. This setup runs so well vs some of the others (triples especially) and inquiries have been such, that we are running some numbers to see where they will come out price wise if we gear up to produce a short run of triple sets (carbs, linkage, manifolds, balance tube, & heat shield) "No aircleaner". If any of you have a triple itch that needs to be scratched, give me a holler, cause I'm guessing this won't be a volume deal.....
  8. Of the 5 cars that registered for judging at the show, FOUR trophied!!! That's some serious quality, kids.....
  9. .... And as far as I know every one of those cars will drive home tomorrow night.....
  10. Carl, Point well taken. It's a hold over from my child hood, I guess. I can't remember one toy I ever had that got left in the box sitting on the shelf. They all got played with....... I've known too many that have built 90+ point cars in several marques that once done, were screwed because they were too afraid to drive 'em........
  11. Mike, What me, plan far enough ahead to take a camera? You've obviously lost your mind.... Nyuck nyuck It really is funny when you look around at one of those shows to see what trips people's triggers. There is the usual Ford, Chevy, Mopar stuff as well as a pretty wide assortment of the unusual that I like. The stranger the better. As far as show cars go, I walked past a couple of old guys when one asked the other, "do you drive yours much"? The answer "In to and out of the trailer"..... My my my, why have it if you don't drive it? Several people stopped by the display in the hour or so I was there with complements on the way it looked and of course had to share "Datsun story" from years gone by......
  12. Stopped by the Convention Center in Portland last night to see how the Datsuns Northwest display was coming along and WOW, did they hit one out of the park. There are seven of the finest examples of the marque gathered in one spot you'll ever see. Three dimes, two roadsters and two Zs in our display and four Zs in Northwest Z'z display. I highly recomend checking it out to anyone in the area, Friday afternoon and evening, Saturday and Sunday. Check events pages here for times etc.
  13. ... that my statements were taken as bad mouthing FI systems on Zs. It was certainly not my intent. When customers come to us saying "I'm tired of spending the time and money involved in keeping my 20 something year old FI system functioning safely and reliable, do you have a suggestion for another way I could go?" Our answer is, "SU carbs are a very simple, functional solution to your relability issue". And believe me we don't need the FI conversion business to stay in business.....
  14. Oh and the thing I'm hearing from these guys as advantages is the simplicity of SUs and having a system they can get in hit the key and drive off with no leaking injectors or other degrading parts etc.
  15. We have had several who have carried this off very succesfully. It's a bolt on that requires only low fuel pressure, and unhooking only the FI portion of the harness.... Linkage, fuel rail and chokes along with a fuel source and away ya go..... Pretty straight forward deal....
  16. Zs that currently hold hillclimb records here locally running ZTherapy standard production carbs..... Nothing oversize about them.
  17. I might suggest that the life of the "rebuilts" could be greatly enhanced if they taken apart and washed out first before being pressed into service. I have opened several over the years only to find grit and shavings in the bore either of which wont mix with rubber seals for long.... Certainly not right that one should have to do this before using, just saying.......
  18. Although I don't think it has anything to do with your problem, you can pull the dome off and lift the piston out, release the set screw and carefully pull the needle out. The letter/number designation is on the head of the needle, more than likely smashed unreadable by the set-screw. Just another of those Murphy's Laws deals in life........ First thing I would do is the "spray around" with carb cleaner to see what you have going on for vacuum leaks. Palmer's first law of SUs: The vast majority of 30 something year old SUs are worn out and all the fiddling in the world is not going to make them well...... ;^)
  19. Been sitting for over a year would be a clue..... When you are in the wash-up mode make sure your get the needles and seats flushed out well as old gas can get things varnished up.
  20. Hey Dog, Exactly what is it you're wanting this car to do in 6 seconds?
  21. Anybody going to the meet in Oxnard Saturday?? go to www.dimequarterly.com for info. I'm driving down for a Sunday Zero rust show in Burbank and thought I'd swing by the show on Saturday. Will be driving my white 510 wagon "the Fridge".
  22. Can you supply a photo? We have all the variations of the balance tube but would like to see exactly which one you have as a European example.
  23. ... FI owners who are tired of trying to keep their systems functional. Seems all they want to do is hit the key and drive off everytime. 2.8's run great on 46mm Hitachis, but the flat tops are a piece of work unto themselves.....
  24. .. one of our Zero Rust dealers in Lebanon OH asking if he knows anyone with the skills to do the metal work. He is pretty well connected in the restoration hobby in the area and I would trust his input. I'll post here or privately if he comes back with something positive. Cheers.
