  1. I think the measurements to the top of the float or the top of the fuel should all be equated to where one's happiness setting on the fuel nozzles are. When all is said and done and the nozzles are where ya like 'em, the fuel level as viewed down in the nozzle should be about a sixteenth of an inch below the top of the nozzle. Puddling up on top of the nozzle things'll be fat and contrary to that if the fuel level is too far down the nozzle things'll be lean. That is what all the jumping around is about.... where the fuel level is in relation to the top of the brass fuel nozzle..... Just putting this out there as crib notes for any and all looking over our shoulders.....
  2. The flaw is that the video Scott did way back when, used the Grose Jets which are no longer available. The needles and seats need the lid to be held with the float hanging down. blow lightly into the fuel inlet tube while moving the float toward the lid. When the needle closes you can feel it and that is where you meaure from the bottom of the flloat bown lid to the float. I've been bugging Steve and Pam to re-do that section of the video for years with out success. Inverting like the video shows, automatically will over power the little spring in the needles and seat giving an incorrect float level setting.... Any one waqnt to chat about any of this, I'm just a phone call away.....
  3. Yes sir, it was killer. A little cool Saturday but no rain and Sunday was sterling. Attendance was very good both days. In this economy you just never know
  4. First thing i want to know: do you have flat top or round top carbs? Pull the coil wire and fuel line to the front carb and have someone crank the motor to make sure you have gas getting that far. In the float bowl lid is a fine mess screen called a "final filter" and it may be nothing more than it is plugged with crap from the tank after sitting so long which is disabling the front carb not all the time but some of the time. Your write up was excellent but a little disapointing from the standpoint that that many guys who call themselves "mechanics" couldn't stumble on something that'd help solve the problem.
  5. While you sharks are circling the boat sniffing carbs and carb related items, if you snag some upgrades give us a look at your old pieces..... core carbs, early balance tubes, fuel rails. Any and all of that stuff we can refurbish and return to the market place. A lot of this stuff is just running out so if you want to help keep this hobby out of crisis mode, give me a shout with what you have. Yeh consider this thread Hijacked...... nyuck nyuck
  6. See, I knew if given enough time someone would be along with some real facts, not the sweeping generalities I was throwing around. Dennis, didn't the last ones have actual spuare headlists or am I halucinating again?
  7. That body style was produced for quite a number of years after Srudebaker ceased operations. Small startups made iterations of the car under various names and powertrains. It was truly a timeless design and way ahead of its time. The car when outfited with the Paxton supercharger was prety hot..... That is one fine example....
  8. There's a little lock nut behind the wingnut, correct? Unless the wing nut is atached to the ball I'd say take it off and throw it away, adjust the ball to the length you want and tighten the little lock nut, not that anything is going to rotate once the balls are snapped on. Overall adjustment of that rod to the bellcrank is just to minimize slack in linkage and heaven knows there is some......
  9. When we got out of the aircleaner biz, we were at $300 powdercoated or base coat clear coated, with new gaskets and stickers, complete with attaching hardware and were losing our hat arse and overcoat at that price. New stickers are available from Michael McGinnis ar Banzai Motorworks in Maryland 301-420-4200
  10. For the holes in the manifold, find some little freeze plugs and some stick'm and the press in and stay forever.... They're silver and chick will dig'em
  11. Plus chicks dig it!! nyuck nyuck
  12. What a walk down memory lane.. This thread was started about 7 months after Steve nad Pam took over the business. I can truley own up to the fact that I've never had as much fun in a quasi business setting as I have had being "camp counselor" for Ztherapy. To this day it seems our last job sells our next job (thanks to you all) and the product goes out the door and with rare exceptions stays out. In the automotive field "come backs" are the scourge of the industy and are to be avoided at all costs. However there are rebuilders out there, generally electrical type rebuilders that'll swap out replacement units at the drop of a hat and send you on your way and save money by building everything to lowest standards possible. Anyway, fun reading this thread and thinking about what a job Steve and Pam have done improving the image and product quality these past 10 years......
  13. No use worrying about the differences between the two FI systems. Your biggest concern is getting this one working. Most of the carb conversions we come across are from owners who just want to get in hit the key and drive off....... rather than fight the degrading FI hardware.
  14. Why do you want more power? It's a whole lot easier to go 100 up there than down here.......nyuck nyuck
  15. So I'll probably burn up a lot of today watching those video clips..... Dang you!! Seriously I'm having a hellova time getting my head around all the design and fab work that went into the Imperial Speedster. Really really well carried out. And the #6 Camaro in the Mark Donahue livery bring back some serious memories. Any time you want to post up more of this stuff to waste my time, I'll donate the time. Now what was this thread about. Oh yeh. Mechanics in east TN. There is really no need for the most part to round up an ace Datsun mechanic. There is nothing all that peculiar to the marque that any skilled mechanic can't get his head around. Finding a mechanic in the age of the "code reader parts replacer" is the trick.
  16. Good hit. When we hold auditions for a talking head for "JUST SUs The Aftermath" I'm lobbying Steve and Pam to give him a shot
  17. And if it has a transmission in it, I could not see a shift lever, that would be the much sought after short shaft dog leg 5 speed. Really is in nice shape for such a homely pot..... It would be worth measuring the distance from the side of the head over to the first thing sticking out on the brake master cylinder. All the SSS stuff on a 510 will work except for the stock aircleaner which hits the master cylinder. That didn't matter on the overeas SSS stuff 'cause they were all right hand drive. That car with all stock SSS hitachi setup would be pretty subtle.
  18. And out of all that, the 59 Imperial Speedster is the coolest car that I saw. There is some real motoring imagination and well carried out.
  19. If for some unkown reason you have fuel issues in the float bowl (too high) this might show up as gas dripping off the bottom of the nozzles because gas is pooling up on top of the nozzles. This would show up a fat running, gas smelling, plug fowling, cylinder wall washing. Could be too high fuel pressure, debris in the final filter (actually the needle and seat) hanging it open. What size nozzles did you buy, .100" or .099"? We supply a lot of undersized nozzles to you rarified air types....
  20. Got this from DatsunsNW. Anyone interested in a Datsun NW Swap Meet in April? Thinkin $10 per space in Canby in early April...maybe the 1st. If you're interested, rsvp to Dave at dvboth@bctonline.com or at 503-317-0647 by Sunday night (March 25) If you didn't get this from the club and would like to be added top the email data base let them know.
  21. I'd like to get one of those 300HP 1600's to put in my wagon...... Talk about slippery. And it already has a wing. nyuck nyuck
  22. A solid box with all four corners intact and decent glass should fetch two grand easy and that number will be more viable the farther east you go. Most all the other stuff more than likely will go away anyway. Throw in a good headliner and straight bumpers and you really start to work on making a wet spot. nyuck nyuck
  23. And by doing what Carl suggests you'll help preserve the more highly prized early cars.
  24. The 510 was/is a cult car. the BRE championship 2.5 Trans Am winning seasons in the early 70's set the trend for all these ensuing years..... Only a handful to this day are what you guys might call "original" as they have become nothing more than a cute box to hang upgrade parts on to make the car A. Go like stink B. Handle like a slot car and C. stop when you mash on the brakes. Love my wagon..... There are a few pictures on www.datsunsnw.org in the members rides section if any of you are interested and there will be a ton at Canby in June
