Dash Repair Process/Pictures
Hey Nick... this is what the initial repair looked like in August 2009 using SEM Bumper Repair... 3-1/2 years later is when I did the Six-10 Epoxy repair by opening up the cracks and flaring it all over the top of this repair. The cracks (more like splits but noticeable) ran about 3-4 inches from the front of the dash toward the gauges. I just filled them with Six-10 Epoxy and did a lot of flaring it out all over the dash. Sorry don't have pics of the later repair. When you tackle yours please post some pics of before, during and after.. would love to see them. Take care and good luck, Mark.

Happy New Year Nick from North Carolina!! I just took some pics a few hours ago for you. My very first repair was done in August 2009 using SEM Bumper Epoxy and after ~3yrs it started to crack again. The 2nd repair on Dash was done in August 2013 (see the 3 dark pics) and today Jan 7th 2024 (the last 5 pics), 10-1/2yrs later the dash has held up real well for me using Six-10 Epoxy. I dug out as much as possible, used the Foam Stuff and then flared Six-10 epoxy at least 1inch beyond the areas I had used SEM Bumper Epoxy. I do have a very small crack that surfaced about 5yrs ago in the center as you can see where obviously my Six-10 epoxy repair was not adequate given it was to close to the windshield and I had a hard time filling, flaring and sanding with the epoxy. To be honest it's not even noticeable while in the car and I have used black shoe polish to fill it if I go to a high end car show just to eliminate the appearance. I am a hug fan using Six-10 Marine epoxy and used it on many car and boat projects. It spreads amazingly, cures hard and sands smooth quite easily. Overall it was the best decision yet laborious task I did to finish off the interior. Especially since it's been kept in a non-climate controlled garage in NC where summer temps in the garage can reach 100F often. Only regret was not doing this when I had the windshield out being replaced! Many thanks for asking! Mark

After trying a variety of Needle profiles... I went with "SL" needles which was the closest to the original N27. You can see the profile of this needle on my pdf attachment .. My engine is a stock L24, MSD 6A box, MSD Breakerless Disty and Mallory ProMaster 40kV Coil so my spark is great. Have my NGK BP6ES plugs gaped to 0.062”. Timing set at 13 BTDC @850rpm and 39.5 BTBC @3500rpm (fully advanced). I run 87 octane unleaded (with up to 10% ethanol) and get about ~28MPG highway with great acceleration. These Needle sets are a little richer at the higher RPMS .. which may be great for your tuning and engine configuration. "SM" came with my Ztherapy Carbs , but I needed to go slightly leaner for Mid Range to Top Speed RPMs .. Any questions ... please inquire. Many thanks, Mark. [SOLD] ..1973 240z Bumperrettes and Front Over-rider - For Sale

I drove from Raleigh NC to their facility to hand carry my bumpers to talk with them. They have done a lot of 240z/260z bumpers.... so they know how to straighten and shape them if damaged. Total cost with shipping back to me was ~$900 for just the front & rear (no bumperettes as overider as I had real nice ones ). I pulled off all the rubber ... put some old Hex Nuts on the mounting studs when I dropped them off to assure they taped them up and prevented them from getting plating up. Here are a few picks.... Note the Overrider is original.... and I bought new chrome bolts and stainless hardware for reassemble. I could not find the front and rear bumper rubber strips so I bought some for 260z and made them work. If you need help I can advise if needed what I did ... Good luck and hope this helps ! Konig Rewinds
I bought some thin offsets (~1/8" thick) for the fronts so I didn't have to flatten much the wheel bearing cap. It also allowed the rim to slide over the hub easier. Once I had the offsets centered properly, I used a small amount of plumber putty between the hub and offset to hold them in place for when I remove the wheels so as to not alter their position. These have been great for 10yrs now with no shimmy or vibration when driving at high speeds. This looks like a great car , body looks awesome. Just a thought, depending on what your thinking of doing to the car in the long term... with all the engine parts out you may want to consider getting the engine bay painted Blue to match the exterior unless you intend to convert back to original Orange. But in general the car looks really solid and great !!! Keep us posted !!! Did your '73 come with SU Flat Tops? Wonder what your plan is for carbs...

They were too rich for my L24 config so am selling at a good price for anyone who uses them. I am currently using "SL" Needles with very good results... as it's close to the N-27 stock needles. Regarding your Carbs running possibly rich.... until you get your O2 meter hookup (for each Carb?) I'll share what I did becuase I didn't want to install two O2 sensors for each SU. 1) I used Colortune 14mm plug and this technique for fine tuning Carb A/F mixture on cylinder #2 & #5 for twin SU's . Page 45 has the needle profiles for comparing "SM" vs "SR". I know you have Triple Carbs... but thought this approach may add to your fine tuning approach... Good luck.... Yoes Cam Oiler Experience?
After putting in new lash pads/rockers and springs I decided to replace my marginal oiling bar. Lash pads/rockers 5 & 6 had excessive wear due to poor oiling. I went with the straight oiling bar for racing which I purchased from Larry Hassler who is on this site (larryracer240z@gmail.com or (626) 485-5767) See pics..... this bar actually adds rigidity to the cam towers, it's aluminum so it expands/contracts with the engine head nicely. Note that 3 webs on the valve cover must be cut back to allow the bar to clear it. See pic #2. I am pleased with it....

Fuel hose connecting float bowl and nozzle
Many thanks for sharing! Great info to always check these fuel bowl/nozzle hoses when I pull the Airfilter backer plate. I am very much like you as I often fiddle to assure the engine components are always working to spec so I can head off a problem before it fails completely. Started to have bucking/jerking when accelerating or going up hills, a loss of power problem. This occurred after installing ZTherapy SU's and tuned them with Colortune also. Thought it was my SU's and needed to tune/tweak them. Finally after it finally stalled completely and would fire sporadically but not run I figured electrical problem misfiring? Got it back to my garage I thought to check the rear fuel bowl for the heck of it since it was easy... and sure enough it was almost completely empty. Front fuel bowl was topped off pretty close to normal. Replaced the mechanical pump and then added an electric pump for insurance.. my 4BBL Holley was more forgiving when the mechanical pump was marginal ... my SUs were not! Thanks again for sharing....

Ah..... thanks. My initial thought the Right Lever was for the Air Box flap (close it for cold startup)..... but never thought it was for the gas pedal. Thanks!

Long throttle linkage replacement
Polishing up the new end makes sense, only the metal and stay away from the plastic ball. Be careful to not take off the plating... Then re-assembling the ball end with the threads should be easy. Just be sure as previously stated to note the Center-to-Center ball distance from your original rod. Once cleaned the ball can be easily screwed onto your good shaft, just clean your threads on the shaft before attaching. The nut on your original rod is used to lock the threaded ball end at the correct length and orientation. There should not be any significant force torquing the threaded ball end on. Good luck...

Patcon... here's what I found in the 1971 240z FSM ..... Static pressure tested at Carburetor Input running engine at various speed : 3.4psi - 4.3psi Capacity Test at 1000rpm : 1600cc/min ==> 0.423gal/min ==> 25.4gal/hr .. or 3.71pts/min ==> 0.464gal/min ==> 27.8gal/hr ... I guess .... 30gph is sufficient for our SU's.... based on the FSM. 1971 FSM 240z Fuel Pump Test.pdf

My mechanic says that although PSI is important to maintain the proper fuel system pressure/response, the FlowRate is the key parameter in filling the bowls. 30gph is the flow rate rate for both the Airtex 8016S (2.5-4.5psi) and Airtex 8012S (5-9psi) pumps which works nicely for SU's and Weber DGVs . Airtexs are very quite based on feedback here and external reviews. For your triple Mikuni's .. try to find out what FlowRate is needed and use a lower psi pump that fulfills that. From above... the Nismo 17010-A7601 puts out 1.3L/min ==> 0.3434gal/min or 20.6gph. This seems way to low of a flowrate.... you need at least 30gph or higher... The Airtex 8012 will be better, but not sure it satisfies the triple Mikuni's needs..
