  2. View Advert Original Rust Free 1972 240Z I have owned nine s30s in the last 10 years since retiring. This 1972 red (110) one is by far the best one I have found. It was first sold in N Hollywood, Ca by Morrie Sage's Universal City Datsun. The 89 year old man from whom I bought the car purchased it in Ca in 1974 for his wife (hence the cloth seats and AC for Phx) and brought to AZ when he was transferred to Luke AFB in 1974. His wife drove it until she got a new Cadillac sometime in the 90's. Odo shows 10800 mi. Last registered in 1990. He was in the process of getting it ready for painting when his wife became ill and died. He shelved the project after priming some door dings and paint chips. This made it look like a pinto pony. I sanded off the primer just to make sure there was no hidden rust. It didn't and has always been rust free. It is amazingly stock throughout. A true time machine, original sheet metal, bumpers, hub caps, FRP headlight buckets, Koito headlights, paint, jute backing, carpet, 240Z rubber floor mats over the carpet, etc. Original engine runs good after replacing leaking fuel pump and lower radiator hose. It has good and even compression in all cylinders. This car can be driven proudly while you replace/upgrade what you want. You can brag to your friends that your 240Z doesn't have rusted areas that are going to cost them thousands to fix. Start with a rust free unibody and you will never regret the choice. Most rubber items are hardened like door seals and windshield gaskets but glass is in great shape. Interior is great, dash has four small cracks but very smooth. Factory 4 row radiator. Factory radio and all gauges work except the clock. New Michelin tires, well ok, they were new in 1990, they still look new! Clean AZ title. I'm not keeping it, on to other projects, have to get moving, getting old. If you don't like it being an automatic I have a Z four speed and flywheel I will include. I have a ton of Z parts, little to big, that I want to pass on with the car if you are a restorer. The first person to own this car was the infamous Ralph Williams (A.K.A. Ralph Williams Chrysler Plymouth in So Cal). Read court cases. Wonder if he bought it for his wife.......or? If I were keeping it I would be all over those floor mats!

Recently pulled my latest 240Z out of a side yard in Phoenix AZ. From the info in the glove compartment it is obvious that this car was sold new from Morrie Sage's Universal City Datsun in N. Hollywood, CA. I bought it from the second or third owner. It is very original except for the seat covers. My suspicion is that these covers were installed by the dealer before the initial sale as they used the original new white backs with inserts that were very well done. The car's orange paint and the orange and white inserts along with the cars very original condition and options (auto, A.C., white interior) makes me think the car was an early version of a common way to up the price by the dealer of an in demand car like the early 240Z, a CALIFORNIA SPECIAL. The 89 year old owner unfortunately died one day after I bought the car so I was not able to question him, his wife who was the major driver of the car had died before him so no one had any pertinent info. Has anyone else seen something like this as a dealer installed option? I've seen lots of upgrades but never this.

Thanks, guys. Just about what I figured, I'll go with Bruce's idea. I do know that velocity is important on anything but an all out race engine from the setup that I did for my 510, took the JDM manifold for the L16 S.U.'s, port matched it to the peanut head on my l20 and to a set of 3 screw Z S.U.'s, along with some needles from Bruce. A little cam, big valves, 421 header and I finally have an engine that goes AND idles well. Manifold throats are not nearly the size of the Z intakes but it works great up to about 6500rpm. Does anyone have any hard evidence as to which factory SU manifold is better than another? I have them all and I don't want to do a trial run on each. Roger street legal 72 240Z historic rally car
