  1. Actually, the mirror on the driver door looks aftermarket as well. I personally like the wheels, the paint looks very nice(at least in the photos). But, as the ole saying goes, its only original once and a repaint would take away from the value. I wouldnt hazard a guess to the value either, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. EDIT Sorry, you posted about the mirrirs as I was writing this

I looked at having mine done with Ron and $125 was the price quoted. I had bought a "working" clock off of Ebay that turned out not to work at all. I tried the mehtods of repairing it on this forum and the best I could do was get it to "jump" a little. I tried the battery mechanism fix but it didnt look quite right and I couldnt get the time to adjust. Thats when I emailed Ron. Then a couple nights later, I found another "working" clock on Ebay for $19.99, out of a "78 with the quartz movement. The seller told me he would refund me if it did not work. I rolled the dice, paid him, The bid went up to $39 and I am happy to say I installed it last May and the clock has lost a total of 1 minute in 10 months. One of my few Ebay "deals" Ron does fantastic work, the clock looks great.

I agree, post some pics and we can direct you better. I bought a pass. frame rail from Baddog, its still in the box to date. Looks to be f a very high quality, so much, I am thinking of getting a driver side just to match the sides up even though the stock rail looks fine. Where in Cincy are you? I'm around the Beechmont/Anderson Township area.
  5. I clicked the link and have to say, I for one really like what you did to her, she looks fantastic. The purest out there probably cringe to see a low vin car go through that kind of transformation however judging from the starting point, it would have not been feasable to do so anyway. Great work and congrats on the addition to your family. You are right, being a Dad is awesome...although if I could just have the moeny back for one year I've spent on my kids..my Z would look as nice as yours..AND I could redo the kitchen for my wife too
  6. The wheels look nice, actually familiar. I have the same wheels but they came with the spinners which I hate to admit, I kind of like

Welcome to the board. There are a great many users on here willing to share their knowledge. I am still green myself, owning my car for a bit more than a year now and doing the work as time and money allows( VERY SLOW ) You will not find Car Fax helpful, they do not go that far back. The only way to know for sure the actual mileage is if the car had stacks of receipts that you could research. Most older cars are valued on their overall condition rather than mileage, so if its worth $1300 to you, than thats a reasonable price. Remember the ole saying, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The cold start problem and smoking could be due to a bad cold start valve. It sits on top of the intake, kind of like a 7th injector. It only works for a moment, spraying fuel into the intake when the motor is cold. It is controlled by another sensor. Do a search on here for the Fuel Injection Bible and read up. Its the only way to learn and it is a valuable resource. Good luck.

I have seen this one listed a couple times before, once at $18,995 then again at $16,995.I really liked the hi-res photos, they do tell a better picture than most (pun intended). I noticed the faded doors right off and didnt think they were becoming of a $19K car. If they are willing to take $11K, I would hate to be the one to do a BIN price of $15,995. Especially after reading the history of it.

:bulb::bulb::bulb: I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking of fabricating some when I get to that point but my time and aggravation would be worth the $95. Sorry for the double post, my 8 yr old wanted to see the smiley face icons.

  11. Looks great! THanks for sharing the photos. I am in awe of the job you are doing. If I only had the time, money and experience, mine could look like that too
  12. Well, a fully restored car from Al surely included a new hatch
  13. I agree about the seller. He told me I was the 1st to respond about the ad and offered to just pull the parts off and send them to me and HE would pay for shipping. I wrote him back and told him he might want to re-think that offer, it would cost quite a bit to ship. I am aware that the fenders are still available. For $500 starting price, it was a bargain. Fenders are $265 or so each last time I checked. I really need a hatch(see my avatar). I plan on stripping my car down and I figured these would have made the job alot easier. For $1280, though, not worth the $ if you factored in shipping or travel time to get them.
  14. Now that its over, I can post the link, I dont think it was mentioned on here before. It started at $500 with no reserve. I emailed the owner right after it posted and he told me he would ship the parts to me if I didnt want the entire car. NOS hood, front fenders, cowl, hatch, grill, inspection covers. Also a weatherstripping kit and urethane bushings. I watched it all week, it was sitting at $560 the day it ended. I sat at my desk at work, 15 minutes to go, I log on and it was at $709.99..still, I thought, I am going to bid. I waited patiently, refreshed with 2 minutes to go, $900, one minute to go, $1100, I sadly let it go, it ends at $1280 with 4 seconds left. I was really hoping to be driving down to Atlanta this morning. Any of you on here the winning bidder? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260338634910&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

Actually, I wouldnt laugh! About 15 years ago, I bought a 4 yr old Supra from a dealership, the salesman was a good friend of my brother-in-laws. He told me it was the stereotypical little ole lady car, Targa, red, looked perfect. I plopped down $10,500 and proudly drove it home. About a week later, pulled in a car wash, washed it, pulled out to dry it off and the entire top of the car was flat, dull as he!!. I called the number for assistance at the car wash and the owner drove right over. I said "look at what your car wash did to my car! Was it squirting out engine clean instead of soap?" He looked at it, said it was oxidized! Told me of the WD-40 trick a dealer uses. Then he pulled a bottle out of his truck, sprayed, wiped and it looked nice and shiny again! Needless to say, I drove back to the dealer, bitched up a storm to the guy to on avail. The 5 day rule had passed and basically I was stuck with the car. They "claimed" they didnt do it, the "little ole lady" did! I drove it 7 months and hated that car the whole time! I ended up trading it for $7,000, $500 a month for a used car..not one of my better deals Regardless, I like the look of it..and I agree, serves the girl right

That black paint has been growing on me lately. Yours looks nice but not quite flat black. Is it a type of semi-gloss? Welcome to the forum
  17. I agree, when I bought my Z last year, I was dayglo green I have ripened to a darker shade of green now. I didnt even know what the fuel injectors looked like! Thanks to many on here, most notably Sblake01, I can find my way around the engine bay now. Even to the point of knowing most of the parts and troubleshooting issues. I still have a long way to go but this site and its users are 2nd to none! Now all I need to do is find about 4-5 thousand more $$ and a few hundred hours to get it finished! Can someone nominate me for Overhaulin'

That wsa probably the same one I saw about 1-1/2 years ago. It was actually on the back of a car carrier, it was coming towards me and I only got a glance of it as it drove by. I tried to turn around and catch up to it Traffic was too heavy and I lost track of it. Anyway, yes, we should get together and b.s. for a bit. I wil leave my # in a p.m. to you. I have a guy from work that bought a TR6 about the same time I got my Z. He hooked up with a bunch of locals that belong to a club called the 6 pack club. They get together and help each other out on occasion, working on their various cars. I thought, how cool that would be to have something like that but it doesnt seem like there are alot of Z's around here. They all rusted away 25 years ago

, thats why YOU are the king on here, Stephen, I pale in your shadow. Plus, I am only repeating everything you taught me so far! You have been spot on with 99% for me and I am very appreciative. If I dont communicate with you before, heres hoping you and the Mrs have a great holiday!

I believe Stephen is speaking of the Coolant Tempature Sensor, located in the thermostat housing. There are 2 sensors in there, the other is the thermotime switch, it is the smaller of the 2. Both can be tested using a multimeter, you will need a copy of the factory service manual or the "Fuel Injection Bible" though. I think you can download a copy of the FSM from here... http://carfiche.com/manuals023/cars/ When you check the sensors, clean the contacts to them very well. Also, follow the wires up from the 2 sensors, the will merge together and then plug in using bullet connectors. Pull those apart and make sure they are very clean as well, I've heard they are a culprit sometimes. Hope this helps. The air tempature sensor is located inside the A.F.M. THe harness plugs into the bottom of the AFM, clean it very well too.

I bought a reupholstery set that has these vents in them but have never seen them as a stand alone item.

Mine (77" 280) does the same thing. Starts fine, sounds good, idles high when cold obviously. Seems smooth when I accelerate. As the temp rises and the idle drops to normal (800 rpm) it sounds a little choppy. If I get in the car and try to accelerate, it misses and hiccups alot. Sblake01 suggested the coolant temp sensor. I put my stock in his suggestion ( he has been spot on for me on other issues) and bought one, just havent had time to attempt the swap out yet. I will try to get to it this weekend sometime and post back if it (hopefully) corrects the problem.
