looks nice, I'll have to look into the lef tail lights. I like the clear bottoms, were they part of the package? Rims look sweet too! I put in a LED dome light in mine last year that I bought from MSA, it is square with 9 lights and now its down to about 5 Still a huge improvement

Wonder if they can still trade it in on Cash for Clunkers??

Just ran across this post and did the same method as you. Went to HF and bought the wheel puller and while I felt I needed 4 hands using it, , it worked well. And to think, people bash the quality of HF tools! Cheap as some might be, for the one or two times I may have to use this or other obscure things, they work very well.
  4. Thanks for the info Bob. I would say if you had that much trouble with the '72, I am in for the same with my 280. I dont mind a bit of coaxing, I only get mildly upset Its when I do alot of coaxing and things still dont work out is when I get very upset! My fear is I get these things and spend almost $400 with freight and they just dont look right or line up right or are too wide, etc. I would love to find some stock in that price range but that I am afraid is a pipe dream. Now that you have some expertise, drive on down to Cincinnati and help with the install and I will supply the beer and pizza

Anthony, I posted a similar thread a day or two ago on converting to fiberglass bumpers from MSA. I posted a link to the bumper conversion brackets, I ordered a pair a couple days ago. I am hoping these are what you are asking about. http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/ct26899/Z.C.C._CUSTOMIZED_PRODUCTSe
  6. Thanks Carl, nice to know they are decent quality. I figured they would take some prep work, I know they are for looks only as well, hopefully I nver have to test their impact ability. I was planning on buying those along with the Urethane Air Dam but would like to know of any issues with them.
  7. First. let me start by saying I really did use the search button on this before posting I have a 280Z and have long wanted to shed the big bumpers. I have options of, going bumperless (illegal, front looks unfinished, rear looks great), MSA fiberglass bumper covers front and rear (I just dont like the looks, especially the rear and the front is too modern looking), or, using earlier bumpers from a 240. The early bumpers are too expensive, so are the stainless posted here recently. That leaves me with MSA Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber bumpers. I am leaning toward the fiberglass (least expensive) front and rear. I am going to use the bumper brackets from here: http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt81970/pd1790406/280Z_TO_240Z_FF__RR__BUMPER_CONVERSION_BRACKETS_ That leads to my question I cannot find an answer too, has anyone used the MSA fiberglass bumpers on a 74-78 and if so, I am very curious as to any fitment issues. I was told the brackets should match up fine, I am more concerned with the sides, gaps, etc? Also, overall quality of the product as well. Any comments are appreciated.

As I said in my previous post, I gave my number over the phone and received the discount and I was told I would receive a discount on future orders. I searched for parts online and did not see any discounts listed, figuring they would come off at invoice time. Then I read the post by Mikemerkury and followed that advice. I recieved and email back stating that my info had been updated and when I logged in, the pricing would reflect the discounted price. I checked and they were correct. The Eibach springs showed up online with a price of $171.96 instead of the previously posted price of $189.95! Too cool! The only downfall is, you cant tell how much off their regular price you are saving. To do that, you need to pull up a 2nd browser and search their site without logging in. It doesnt "feel" as good just seeing the cheaper pricing, like I'm not getting the deal. Very worthwhile info and thanks to Mike for working with them to secure the cheaper pricing. In the past couple years Ive spent some $$ with them would have been nice to pick up the discount, I could be a couple more parts down the road

I thought I would give a bump to this thread as I remember reading it a few months ago.I bought some Eibachs springs yesterday. Instead of ordering online, I called MSA and inquired about this post. I gave him my membership # and was told they would keep it on file and any discounts would be taken off automatically, either ordering online or on the phone. I then ordered the springs that were $189 and he told me my total came to $171 I wish I had known about this awhile ago. While its true, they are not always the cheapest, when you use them its worthwhile to give them the info. I also ordered a wheel/tire combo but received no discount on that
  10. Thanks for all the replies on this issue. To answer a few things,,, When I got my 15" Rewinds from MSA a couple years ago, they included a set of extended center caps and "Z" emblems to replace the standard caps that don't easily fit on the front wheels. Did they mention if they still do that? The rep did not tell me that they were extended but did claim the wheels came with center caps with the Z logo, lug nuts, valve stems. If I bought the tire combo, they would be mounted and ready to bolt on with no rubbing issues, no adjustments needed, no adaptors, etc. Sounds easy. I did the math and they are hitting me for the price on tires. $549 for 4 wheels plus freight, 987.80 for wheels and tires plus freight. That works out to $109.70 per tire. I did a quick search and can get them online for $90 but then I still have to pay mounting, etc. I found some Rota 16X8 last night (at Conedodgers recommendation) for $499 shipped. They do not include lug nuts (another $30-40) and then I still have to take them and get tires and pay mounting, etc. Zedyone_kenobi- I will defintely post a photo for you, maybe with your clears on too Chris280Z-love the look of your 240 with them on. you are making it an easier decision by posting that pic. Arne- thanks as always for your valued advice. You are correct, no track use, I just want a fun to drive car that looks good too. I am concerned with ride quality and have to be honest, read good and bad with the HP's. I am trying to temper them a bit by using the Eibachs. I really dont need a hi-pro tire, a decent tire with a decent ride quality is more than enough for me. Geezer-thanks for the calculator, fun to use. I plugged in what my car currently has and then plugged in the Toyo 225/60-15. It is 8/10 of an inch taller than my current tire and over an inch wider. If I drop an inch with the Eibachs, that closes the gap by almost 2 inches. Thanks for all the replies
  11. I have thought about going with 16's, I know the 15's are going to be an issue down the road. I should have stated my intentions with the car. Just want a fun driver, no racing, autocross. I want a somewhat decent ride, thats why I decided on Eibachs. I was going to go with the KYB gas shocks with them but read not to mix them with lowering springs. I need to replace bushings, etc and want to go with a mix of rubber and urethane. Arne, Ive read many of your posts last night btw, thanks!
  12. Sorry for the post on this, I have searched and done some reading on here and it actually made me want to post this even more afterward. I am going to buy some 15X7 Konig Rewinds from Motorsports. They state online to call for tire and wheel specials, which I did, He quoted me for the 15X7 along with 4 Toyo Proxes V-Rated 225/60-15 ready to mount for 987.80 plus freight. I asked him if there would be any rubbing and he said no, bolt right on. no issues. I told him that I also would be buying Tokico HP shocks and Eibach lowering springs. He then told me these would not rub with the one inch drop with the Eibachs. He also said the come with center caps with the Z logo. I told him I needed to read up and would get back. From what I have read, there is an issue with the center caps. I have also read posts where some claim they have rubbing with 225/60/15 with a 1 inch drop. I dont want to go this wide and have issues. Can anyone chime in on this? Would I be better off getting a 205/60/15 locally and just buying the rims for $549? I read good and bad with the Toyos as well. I dont want to drop over a grand on these and regret it. Or any other reasonably priced options. Thanks
  13. Haha, reading this post reminds me of my "great deal" from (nect month) 2 years ago. My unrestored, unmolested car. Turned out it had a head off a 280ZX on it. It had so many other issues, that almost seemed anti-climatic. Lick your wounds like I did and just enjoy the car.
  14. Thanks guys for the comments. I am sure that soon enough I will start the process. I did get my car back on the road about 5 weeks ago. I bought it almost 2 years ago so it was nice. My brother stopped by not too long after I got temp tags and I told hime I finally had it on the road. I asked him to drive it (which he did), I sat on a pillow next to him as the interior was pretty much gutted. That was a good memory. When we returned, he asked if I wanted to ride his bike. It was a 1600 cc Suzuki and damn did it move. I started to get bit by the bike big after that ride. Anyway, I have had a parts wish list saved for a long time, Tokico shocks, Eibach springs, Konig Rewinds, brake upgrade. I already have everything to finish the interior, just finished with the motor, so after suspension, paint and body and a few other bits to go. Thanks again!
  15. Carl, thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Honestly, I feel more relief now than anything that he is no longer suffering. Its hard to get excited now about my car to be sure. Soon enough though, after the greiving process, its time to turn a negative into a positive. Tell myself that life is too short and live well while we are here. Hug my wife and kids and then get online and start buying all the parts Ive been looking at getting for my car since I bought it. Now that I have the money to finish her I will only lack the time and expertise With help from all the great users on here, I am confident that I will have a fitting tribute when its finished. Thanks again
  16. My 52 year old brother passed away yesterday from cancer. When he was diagnosed, he went out and bought his dream motorcycle and rode it up until 5 days ago. We had all got together to go to a concert about 100 miles away and he was insistent on riding his bike there with his best friend. Coming back from the show the next day, he (being medicated) nodded off at 65 mph into a tree filled ravine and walked away from it with a small cut on his head and ear, simply amazing. The bike did not fare as well. My mother called me and told me that the ins. company was going to total the bike. She told me my brother was planning on leaving me his motorcycle and she wanted to know what I wanted to do, take the bike back and fix it or take a check. Then she told me that he knew I would never be able to ride it or love it the way he did and he wanted me to ride it as long as I wanted. Then he wanted me to sell it and use the money from his dream to fund my dream and to finish my Z. Needless to say, I cried my eyes out and was very touched and humbled by his thoughts. I have the headlight from his bike and somehow will include that into my car along with a vanity plate I am yet to think up, maybe SZ12956 his initals and d.o.b.
  17. Love the g-nose! Good luck

I bought a set off Ebay, reconditioned, polished, matched. Here is a post to the set after I bought them. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31048 I found a link to the company I bought them from, the price is up from what I paid, but compared to junk you buy from AutoZone, etc(about $40 per injector) still a great deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/200cc-Datsun-280Z-280ZX-Fuel-Injectors-replacement-kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2c4ffc89b1QQitemZ190320511409QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQQsalenotsupported Check the link out, I am VERY happy with the set I bought last year. You can send your injectors out for cleaning. I cant remember the name, something like the Injector Doctor? If you click the link on the ebay ad and look at how they refurbish these, it is basically the same process as "cleaning" companies use.

I went through this with my car and Stephen was spot on. I went to the local auto parts store and bought a noid light to test the signal to the injectors, very simple to use. Once I verified I had a signal at each connector, I checked the fuel pressure after the fuel filter before it went into the fuel rail. I beleive (Stephen correct me if I am wrong) 36.1 psi or somewhere close to that. If you have pressure and a signal, it should start. It is possible that its the fuel relay as well. I am leaning that the fuel filter might be gunked up if it sat for awhile. Let us know your results

I ran across this today surfing for carbon fiber parts. http://www.globalmotors.net/amazing-work-datsun-fairlady-z-concept-design/ Reminds me of a GT-R from the front but kind of cool nontheless. I have seen something similar posted before but not this same concept. Here is that link from last year http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30436&highlight=nissan

That thing with the arrow appears to be the charcoal canister. I am not an expert by any means but cant seeing this being the problem or even that the clicking sound might be coming from it. Have you checked your fuel pressure? If you hook one up past the fuel filter, you should be around 36.3. I would start there first. You can by a pressure guage for cheap. Then, it begins a process of elimination.
  22. Stepehn, I was saddened to read you were not going to be on here any longer. Hopefully you read this so you see my heart felt thank you for all the expertise you have shared with me this past year. I FINALLY got my car on the road last Sunday. After trying alot of different things, replacing parts, reading manuals, etc, it seemed a replacement AFM cured my trouble. It was nice to get her on the road (even though it was only a couple miles) I owe you a debt of gratitude. Hopefully, you reconsider some day, I still have a way to go Take care

I am far from an expert but will give you my 2 cents. I beleive fuel pressure should be at 36.6 psi. I measured mine right past the fuel filter before going into the rail and came up with that exactly. Where do you have your inline guage? I am thinking it might be the fuel filter itself, (you dont state you replaced that) or the fuel pump might be gunked up. Another thought might be the fuel pressure regulator at the bottom of the loop in the fuel rail...just my thoughts.

I'm doing the dame thing, bought a roll of black wool blend that is "quote" used in the BMW X5" and will be using the old for patterns, then binding at least the rear hatch area. I have more than enough to do the car, it looks very nice and I paid $79 for it shipped. I am using POR on the floor, then doing the dynamat as well. The whole thing is running $220, less than the price of most carpet kits I priced out.

You could always buy it for the grand and flip it for more..kinda tacky I know but hey, gets you more $$ for your Z project
