Here is my garage which I am in the process of insulating, running electical, and plastering to complete my "man cave". Eventually I want to get a Modine Hot Dawg gas heater. Anyone know of a good used one for sale? My daughters not too happy that I moved all her sports equipment out to the shed.
  3. Welcome and congratulations on finding a 240Z. I am also a member of the Z Car Club of New England and hope you join our club. It is a great group of guys who all share the same passion for these Z's. Good luck with the restoration.
  4. Hi Bruce, Thanks for the information. I will be giving you a call in the next week or so to discuss. The car is in hibernation for the winter. Good time to remove the carbs and send them off to your shop! Marc
  5. I am thinking of getting a set from Z Therapy as my current carbs have air leaks at the throttle shafts. Question: Did anyone order oversized needles with their new carbs? If you did what size did you get and what adjustments did you need to make to the engine. Does it make a big difference in the performance of the engine? Thanks for any and all replies!
  6. My daily driver is a G35 sedan
  7. Hi Kurt, I paid $1799.00 on eBay as no one bid against me. The freight charge was $240.00 from Delaware to Rhode Island. You need to have the ability to remove the lift (1750 lbs) off the tailgate of a tractor trailer so you would need a fork lift. I had the lift delivered to a commercial buissness who had the equipment to unload it and deliver it to my house. My garage ceiling is 10" 6" and yes you definately need to do your measurements with the door open. I had to shift my lift and the car on the lift back to clear my door. Good luck with you search!

Hi Carl, Now that I have a lift I plan to start working on cleaning up the undercarriage of my car. Here is my situation: 1. Although I live in NE, this car will never be out in the weather, even the rain during the summer months. 2. I do have a compressor but no spray gun yet. I am bringing the car to my body shop to get some work done so I would use them to do any painting or undercoating. 3. It looks like the original owner had it undercoated. A piece of the undercoating came off the fuel tank and the original glossy black shows through in that one spot. I am tempted to try to remove all the other undercoating or would I be better off leaving this protective coating on? When these cars came off the assembly line there was no undercoating. I know the suspension parts where painted black but what is the correct color for the underbody structure, black or the color of the car? Given my planned use would it be OK to bring the undercarriage down to the metal and paint it the correct color but not undercoat it? Thanks in advance for your reply! Marc

I thought POR15 was meant to be used to cover surface rust. Does it also work for undercoating?
  10. I have not followed the value of these 10th anniversary models, what do they typically sell for in todays market with some miles on them and not in mint condition like this one? Do they seldom come up for sale given the limited number that were manufactured? I am not a big fan of the S31's but this is one model I would definitely love to have.
  11. I had the same thoughts when I saw the engine pics. Also, if you were storing a car like that as a future investment, wouldn't you take better care of it and not leave in a corner of some buidling surrounded by other things that could damage the car?
  12. Did anyone see this listing from a Nissan dealer in NY selling a new never been registered 280 ZX 10th Anniversary Edition with 49 miles! There are 29 bids already with 2 hours left on the auction. Do you think this car is worth that much money? My major concern would be the seller ID is new with 0 feedback. Also does anyone else become leary when you see one or two people bidding up the price? It almost appears that these bidders may be working with the seller to artificially bid up the price and lure a real bidder into making a bid. Does anyone else share this concern with eBay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-280ZX-10-1980-Datsun-280ZX-10th-Anniversary-49-original-miles_W0QQitemZ180302419629QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item180302419629&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 Like to see another thread going where we all debate the value of the Z's.
  13. Hi Mally, To answer your questions: No you do not have to bolt the lift to the floor. It has casters so that you can move it around. I did most of it alone and spread it out over one week after work. Maybe 8 hours total. It is easy to put together as long as you download the instructions from Greg Smiths website. I used the help of three other guys to move the two ramps. I am in Nashville from time to time for my job. Most likely won't be back until after the first of the year. PM me if you want my cell #. You can call me if you have any more questions. Good luck with your lift. Marc

Adam, I totally agree that the real joy of owning these Z's is driving them. It also is gratifying to see peoples reactions when you are driving a 240Z in decent shape. I have had people pull me over to talk about my car and ask if I would be interested in selling her. The most common comment I hear is "I remeber that car, so and so had one, it was a great car, and a lot of fun to drive". I always repsond I couldn't agree more with you. As beautiful as this vintage Z is, if I could only have one, I would not want to own a trailer queen that I would be afraid of taking out for a spin. If I had the money and space, I am not saying I wouldn't love to buy her because I would in a heartbeat. Having said that I am glad that I found a Z that I could afford and love to drive. According to the previous owner my car has 258,000 miles on her! My goal is to reach 500,000 miles while keeping her in mint condition.
  15. Thanks Winger, You are so right with the neighbors all trying to claim I am their best friend now that I have the lift! I have a simple solution, I am happy to rent the lift to anyone in the hood for $25.00 an hour as long as they sign a liability waiver and clean up after themselves. Hey, I've got to support the Z parts fund some how!
  16. Jon, in addition to the the three drip trays that come with the lift you can place the two approach ramps on the insider rails to offer additional coverage. There is also a steel jack stand tray that sits on the rails. Here is the link to the lift: http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Direct-Lift-Pro-Park-8S-p/tppro-park8s.htm FYI, they also sell the lifts on eBay and I saved $200.00 buying this model on eBay. I paid $1799.00 plus freight. There was no sales tax and the shipping from Delaware to RI was $240.00. The lift weighs 1750 lbs so you need the ability to remove the lift from the back of the semi trailer. I had mine delivered to a local commercial address that had fork lifts. That local company then delivered the lift on my house on a cherry picker truck. Doug, thanks and I really appreciate the pictures you sent me of your lift and your offer to call you if I had any questions. Fortunately I figured it out for the most part on my own based on the decent instructions posted on the Greg Smith site. All my buddies are amazed at the quality of the lift for the price I paid. I can't wait to start working on the undercarriage. Working standing up beats being on your back on a creeper any day! Marc
  17. Here are pics of the lift in operation. The daily driver fits very nice under the lift. The lift is very secure and has a double locking system which is why it certified by the American Lift Institute (ALI). This was the only lift made in China that I could find with this certification. I would highly recommend this lift to anyone considering buying one. FYI, my ceiling height was 10' 6".
  18. You definitely need help when you need to place the two ramps on the crossbeam. The one with the cylinder weighs 440 lbs and the other ramp is 300 lbs. The last pic shows the first time the z was on the lift.
  19. Here are some more pics of building the lift.
  20. After a lot of research and feedback from this forum and others, I settled on a Direct Lift from Greg Smith Equipment in DE. I couldn't be happier with the quality and features of this lift for the price. I have posted some pictures so that you could see the process of putting the lift together.
  21. Hey Jim and Mike, Are you aware there is a Z Car Club of New England? We are looking to get more members active in the club. We have a club gathering next Saturday to view one of the members 1972 Nissan Restored 240 Z. Check out the site (there is little traffic on the site at this stage) Here is the link http://www.zccne.org/ There is a posting on the event next Saturday. You are welcome to come and meet the members. There are some great guys in this club. Take care, Marc
  22. Carl, Thanks for pointing these safety issues out. The thumbnails were very helpful. I will look to incorporate one or both of your safety braces when I build the lift. I don't want to bolt the lift to the floor as I want to be able to move it to the center of the garage some times. I will post pictures of the lift once I have it built. Thanks again, Marc
  23. Hey Tom, I did purchase a four post lift from Greg Smith also. I got the Pro Park S. Did you check out the directions they have online? They are 31 pages and seem very detailed to me. The lift arrived at a local business Thursday. I am waiting to have it delivered to my house hopefully Monday by a boom truck. Did you get the S or the Plus model? Did you have someone help you? Did your lift come with the ALI sticker? Can you post some pictures on this site of your Z on the lift with your ZX under it? My ceiling is 10' 6" so I am hoping it fits OK. My garage is only 20 feet wide by 24 feet deep. I wish the garage was wider. I am concerned my wife is going to hit the post in the middle of the garage. How big is your garage and how does the lift fit in the garage? Thanks, Marc
  24. Wing, Thanks for the heads up! I stopped by Borders and picked up a copy. I will be reading it tonight. It's nice to finally see our Z's get recognition as being a collectible car. Marc
  25. Hey Doug, Thanks so much for posting these pics. This is the lift I am leaning towards because of the price and they are now ALI Certified. It is one of the few Chinese lifts that carry that certification. Does your lift have the double lock system and how do you like that feature? Also did you go with the 110 or 220 motor? Was it worth the extra money to get the plus version? Thanks again, Marc
