  1. Yep, Nissan is a little looney on their prices for these items. I don't think the Nissan items are magic. I got a chain kit off EBay for about $75. Make sure you get one made in Japan though, not Taiwan or China. Stay away from Felpro head gaskets, they stink. I think MSa sells the head gasket cheaper, but have not looked at the individual prices lately. I bought their whole engine kit for $109. good luck. Marty
  2. No. It is a Pacesetter Header that I bought direct from Jet-Hot Coatings. It shocked the hell out of me to, !!! I never heard anyone say that they had a clearance problem with this swap. Oh, well. It just slowed me down a bit, but it is fitting great now. Marty
  3. He offered to clean it up. At the time, I thought I wanted to hook everything back up. I have to pass emissions tests in my state. Marty
  4. And Ken gets the Booby Prise!! Go directly to the Boobs thread and enjoy! The water jacket area was interfering with the header tubes. So it was completely cut off and ground smooth. He did such a nice job that it looks like it came from the factory that way. A very clean look. Here are a couple of close-ups to show the finished product. Marty
  5. One of my Z buddies ported and gasket-matched the the intakes for me. That should greatly increase the air flow. I am hoping for a aproximately a 10HP increase. While he was at it, I had him polish up the outsides too. I believe he first use a sanding wheel to get them smoothed out, then buffed them with a buffing wheel. As far as the guess, sorry, that is the stock angle. Anyone else? Marty
  6. Well, I am making some progress on my L28 swap into my '71 track car. Got my new intakes on and the engine/trans back into the car. Here are a couple of pictures of the new intakes. Who can guess what's different about them? Marty
  7. Also, you mentioned that the alternator is new. Did you change the voltage regulator (if you still use it) also? It is best to replace both at the same time. A lot of the time, one fails after you change the other. Marty

    The Mitty 2006

I saw one about 3 years ago at an Indy Z Club meet. So that would make about 4 that we know of. Marty
  9. I hear ya on that hellacious desire to get back on the track! It's really addictive isn't it? I am trying to finish up an L28 swap into my '71 that I have been working on all winter. It's just one stumbling block after the other, but I am getting there. I missed 2 track days this year already. ARRrrg!! Sounds like you are getting your suspension dialed in. Mine is set up pretty similar and I like it a lot. Just need that extra L28 power! Marty
  10. That should 919 Yellow. I have one in that color. Probably one of the rarest color combos in '70 was blue, with a blue interior. That is the color of my other one. I think blue & white are probably #1 & 2 in rarity. Marty
  11. Sounds about right for a stock motor. I had my stock motor dynoed a couple of years ago and it came in about the same range. It peaked power at 5,750 RPM. I figure revving it above 6K is just beating on it. The only change I did to it was to put in a Pertronix. Marty
  12. Yep, I have had that long bolt snap off on me too. Once the front cover is off, you might be able to grab it with vice grips. Heat the block area around the bolt first. Sometimes the expansion is all you need to back it out. I was able to pry the pulley off with a large, stout screw driver, after getting the bolt off of course. An impact gun makes easy work of getting the bolt loose. Good luck, Marty
  13. I was planning on hooking the cooling lines back up. So track days are still on cold days around here. Is the coolant circulating in a cavity behind there? Marty
  14. Jet Hot does buy them from someone and then coat them. Can't remember the brand right now and I can't get ont o their site for some reason. Denting them doesn't sound like a good option. It may crack the coating. Besides, it would cut down on performance, the opposite reason that I am installing them to begin with. A different intake may work. The real bite of that one is that I had them bead blasted, ported and gasket matched. And yes it is an early '70 intake, from 6/70. Anybody have pictures of the undersides of 72 and 73 intakes? TIA, Marty
  15. Here is a new twist in my '83 L 28 swap into my '71 track car. It's the F54 block with P79 head. Planned on using the carbs and a ported intake. Got headers from Jet Hot coatings for the P79 head. When I went to put the intake back on, I could not get it to seat up against the head. I looked underneath to see what was going on and I couldn't believe it. The bottom inside corner of the intake is contacting the header tubes!!! @#%&*#%@@!!! Check out the pictures. I have heard of dozens of people doing this swap and I never heard anyone say they had this problem. Looks like I am hosed now!! Damn, I keep running into one road block after another!! Rant over. Now on to consider plan B. Anyone have a suggestion? Marty
  16. Go look at my gallery for the blue '70. It reminds me of the 70's and how they used to jack up the old muscle cars. It hasn't settled in 3 years, so I dodn't think it is going to change. I guess you will have to trade in those TAs for some mudder tires, ! Marty
  17. I have the same issue with the HP's installed on my '70 240Z. Both ends sit up at least an 1" taller than stock. It has not settled after about 3 years either. And yes, everything is installed the way it should be. I even have the Euro springs in there, which are supposed to lower it by 3/4"!!! Marty
  18. I was looking at that one too. Chino240Z said he had 3 of those fail on him. Based on that, I bought this Carter pump: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRT%2DP4594&N=115&autoview=sku It's even cheaper. I also baought a regulator to reduce the pressure to 5 PSI. This is going on an '83 L28 with the F54/P79 combo. I have not figured out the wiring yet though. Marty
  19. Let me know what you think of them when you get them. I have been thinking of buying a new set of "blew" seats too! CDM has the most authentic seats that I have seen anywhere. Marty
  20. I would proably take 2 -3 of them. Can you post a picture of the finished product? TIA, Marty
  21. Still here in the Chicago Area, collecting parts and preparing an L28 to put into my track as my winter project. I hope the weather breaks soon, as I have a track date coming up on April 8 at Road America. I haven't seen any 1st Gen Z Cars in junk yards around here in years. I have to rely on our fair weather friends in other states. Check out the Windy City Z Club site: http://www.windycityzclub.com/default.asp We are planning a lot of events this year and I believe some of them are in cooperation with the Indy Z Club. Marty
  22. SiverLeaf looks pretty interesting. How does it work? Is it glued on and then trimmed with an exacto knife? Where did you get it from? Thanks for any additional info. Marty
