  1. What kind of HP is it putting out? I have been considering the same type of project. I want to have a streetable car that performs really well on the track, but is durable. I don't want a high-strung race motors that needs to be rebuilt every 2 years. I would say you have a great start there. Marty
  2. So what does the manual show for a HP gain? Does it show jetting for the L24 and the L28?
  3. It looks like a nice set up. What are you going to replace it with? Marty
  4. I never heard of the "bulge" style lug nuts. What is the difference?
  5. The top left pic looks about right. Just do a trial fitment and it will be real obvious what you need to shave off. I think I just used standard chromed lug nuts. Nothing special at all.
  6. To do the vented rotors, you will need a spacer to make the calipers line up right. The guy I bought mine from is no longer in business. Not sure who sells them now, but I am sure someone must. As I recall, the caliper has 2 or 3 ribs on the top of it. I used a grinder to shave one of them off. It wasn't hard, just messy and stinky. You will love it though. It is definitely a worthwhile mod. Marty
  7. If you have the calipers that use the stock rotor, that would be true. If you want to run the vented rotors, you have to use the wide version of the caliper, which can give clearance problems, depending upon which wheel you use.
  8. One other consideration is which brakes you are using? If you are sticking with stock ones, it is no issue. If you wanted to upgrade to the Toyota 4x4 brakes, the bowed out brakes would probably clear them. I had them on my track car with 15x7 Rewinds and I had to grind off one of the ribs on the caliper to clear the wheel. Marty
  9. Hi Eric, Nice looking car. What are you asking for it? Marty
  10. I don't want to hiijack the thread either, but I didn't know when you might visit us again. Glad to hear you are doing well and still in the car game. Congrats on the retirement!! I hope to retire in another 4 years. I am starting to look for a bigger garage, with a nice house attached!! Take care, Marty
  11. Hi Arne!! How are you? How's everything in the Porsche world?
  12. Hey, I just realized that you own Arne's old car. Glad to see you joined the club and that the car is alive and doing well. Looks like that was a great trip. Marty
  13. Thanks Mike, that's what I wanted to confirm.
  14. Hey Pop's Z, As a fire fighter, what do you think of Steve J's idea of just popping the initial latch to have a gap to spray an extinguisher into? Would that still let in too much oxygen? I have often wondered about that. Unfortunately, I can attest to just how scary an engine fire is on a 240Z. After I had finished a 7 year restoration on my first '73 Z, I was driving north on Rte. 53 near Lisle, IL, when the car started accelerating on its own. At 65 in a 45 MPH zone, I figured that I couldn't keep going like that, so I reached down and shut it off. By the time I coasted to the side, I had flames coming out of the hood vents (had a '78 hood on it). I popped the initial latch. Me and a couple other drivers emptied 3 extinguisher on it to no avail. It was like peeing on a forest fire. After that I told every one to get back and let it burn. The fire was so intense that it shut down Rte. 53 for an hour. Once the fire department put it out, I was standing behind the car talking to one of the cops. The car was completed toasted all the way up to the back of the doors. From there back it looked perfect. The cop said "It's a shame, it looks like you just bought this car". He couldn't believe it was 13 years old. I figured out that the center Weber carb stuck wide open and poured gas on the header. To this day, I would not have Webers on one of my cars. It was a real sick feeling seeing that car go up in flames. But I was so grateful to get out unhurt. It definitely is not worth getting seriously burned over it. Cars can be replaced. Marty
  15. No. I don't need any. I was just trying to think of some of the parts that were made out of stainless. I am surprised those are still available.
  16. What about the stainless trim around the windshield and rear window molding?
  17. Congrats! Especially on being able to do it on your own terms. I hope to do the same in another 4 1/2 years. We plan to move to a smaller house and a bigger garage. I hope to have space for at least 6 cars, so I will have room to do another restoration. I am hoping that Z prices don't get out of reach by the time I retire! Enjoy! Marty

I too got to be pretty good friends with Keith "2 Many Z's". He helped me out quite a bit with my '70 and '71 Z's. Being a Moderator, I think he got a little burnt out and got into a hassle with some people on the site and decided to stop coming here. The last I heard from Keith was about 5 years ago. He bought an old truck that he was working on. He still had his Z, but was not working on it much. Marty

It looks like it would be a good start to a restoration project. What condition are the frame rails and floor pans in? Do you have all of the interior parts, wiring , etc?
  20. Did you leave the key on the "on" or "access" position, without starting the car? I heard that it can burn up a Pertronix. I went through 2 of them and switched to a ZX distributor and had no troubles since. Marty

Congrats!!! That's a great looking car. I love the color combo too. I have a soft spot for blue interiors, as I have a blue on blue '70. Enjoy! Marty

Hey Kmack, Good to hear you and the family are doing well. I went through a period where I did not have a Z for 11 years. Then the latent Z-Bug re-emerged and I ended up buying two of them. I suspect you will have another Z in your future at some point. I too was communicating frequently with Gary and Keith. I am glad to hear Gary is still kicking. I sent him a PM a while ago, but have not heard back from him. The last I heard from Keith was about 3+ years ago. He got dis-enchanted with this site for some reason, and we kept in touch through email. He still had his Z, but was getting more interested in trucks. He had injured his leg at work, which was slowing him down. As far as I know he is still living in Virginia. Stay in touch with us once in a while! Marty

Well, if you hear from Beandip, tell him I sent him a PM and would love to hear from him. Hope he is doing well. Marty

Does anyone know what became of @beandip? I used to talk with him a lot, but I have not heard form him in 2 -3 years. Marty
