  1. Does anybody make an engine cradle for the Z engine? I have an L28 that I am going to need to move to a new house in a few weeks. I have it on an engine stand right now, but I figured that is not a good way to move it. Thanks for any suggestions you might have. Marty
  2. Is there an Optima battery that is an exact fit in a 240Z??
  3. I had the hood and battery door open the whole time I was charging it. Only closed it to start the car. Could gases build up that fast?
  4. Well, its about that time of year to put the Z away for the winter. It has been sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks and it is around 40 here today. Turned the key and got nothing. I am not too surprised since the battery is pretty old and its cold this morning. No big deal, right? So I put it on the battery charger for 2 hours. When I turned the key to try it, I immediately heard a really loud pop and vapors came out from under the hood. I was really shocked to see that my battery had exploded!! Not only did it blow the cap off, it blew a big chunk out of the top and broke out one whole corner of the top portion. The explosion was so powerful, that it put a bend in the battery hold down frame. Luckily, had the battery access door closed at the time and the acid only hit the underside of the access door, instead of spraying all over my paint. Anyone have an idea of what would cause the battery to explode? I have never had this happen before. Marty
  5. Congrats! Looks like a nice big space. Seems tall enough to put a lift in too. How many cars can you fit in there? That is the dream I hope to realize in the next couple of years. Marty
  6. This last post reminds me that I have an ECU out of an '83 ZX, with a 5 spd if anyone wants it. Marty
  7. The guy that owned the Green Hornet was selling it??!! I am shocked!! By the way he tells the story, it sounded like a life-long passion. Why in the world would he sell it. I suppose a life tragedy could give you a reason though. I have watched that video many times. I have often thought that it would be the ultimate Z Car for me. Driving that car on track would be such fun. Duplicating it would be really costly, I am sure. It still inspires me to build another track Z.
  8. I am to hear that your race weekend went well. These cars are a total blast to drive on track. they feel very at home there.
  9. Hey, it is your car, do what you like best. But if you are looking for opinions, I agree with the Captain on Type 1.
  10. Congrats! Hopefully it runs as good as it looks. Marty
  11. That unit looks pretty nice. It looks really big though. will it fit in the dash of a Z Car??
  12. Yes. Look on the passenger side up near the body. There should be 2-3 threaded holes to use. Make your own mounting plate, and you are on your way.
  13. I think you are not understanding what I said. You mounted the pump to the tank. I am talking about mounting the pump to the uni-body frame in front of the gas tank. That will get it up much closer to the body. I think I used a Carter pump too, and it did not hang down lower than the gas tank. I wish I had taken a picture of it. Maybe someone else used the same spot and could chime in with a picture. Marty
  14. I believe the '73 & 74's came with an electric fuel pump, as well as the mechanical pump. There are threaded holes in the cross frame just in front of the fuel tank, on the passenger side. Find those holes and clean out the threads. On my '71, I fabricated an aluminum bracket, mounted it to the threaded holes and then mount the electric pump to the bracket. That should keep the pump up and out of the way, and in somewhat of a stock location.
  15. It looks to be in pretty good condition, for a good price. The one drawback that jumps out is the salvage title. Personally, I am not fond of the color, but that could be changed.
  16. I totally agree with you on that. I am not a fan of that huge open grill look.
  17. Very interesting. Do you have any pictures of them installed in your floor? I would like to see how you have them arranged.
  18. Hey Chuck, Thanks for the info. I am trying to collect as many tips as possible form various people. It helps to get a different perspective. So what is a "floor pot"? Some sort of anchoring device? Can you post a picture or send a link to a website? Thanks, Marty
  19. Sweet!!! That is a great set up you have there. I like the fact that you have a separate room for completed projects and a separate work area. How much square footage do you have? What kind of heating do you have? I am hoping to build my own Garage Mahal in about 4 years when I retire and move to a spot with more land. Any advise you would care to share? Marty
  20. What kind of HP is it putting out? I have been considering the same type of project. I want to have a streetable car that performs really well on the track, but is durable. I don't want a high-strung race motors that needs to be rebuilt every 2 years. I would say you have a great start there. Marty
  21. So what does the manual show for a HP gain? Does it show jetting for the L24 and the L28?
  22. It looks like a nice set up. What are you going to replace it with? Marty
  23. I never heard of the "bulge" style lug nuts. What is the difference?
  24. The top left pic looks about right. Just do a trial fitment and it will be real obvious what you need to shave off. I think I just used standard chromed lug nuts. Nothing special at all.
