  1. The Z's welcome home a new brother. It's a 1971 240Z Race car.
  2. Sadly, the yellow car will be moving on to a new home to make room for the race car. It will be going to a new member up in the "Great White North". He will be missed!!!

  5. I believe I got mine from Autozone about 3 years ago and have had no issues at all with it. Hell, with a lifetime warranty, it is hard to go wrong with that. Marty
  6. Hi Guys, I am selling my yellow '71 to a guy that lives in Toronto. For you guys up north that have bought US cars; what needs to be done and what paperwork needs to be filed to bring a car across the border after purchase in the US? Thanks for your help. Marty
  7. I went out to the shop on Saturday to check this out again. With the fuel cell that is in the car, the in-tank surge would not fit. So it looks like I will re-use the surge tank that is there. We found a spot that would move it forward about 12 -18", which should d the trick. Thanks for the input! Marty
  8. I believe the cell does have 2 fittings coming out the top. So with this set up, would you need 1 pump for the surge, and 1 pump to go forward to the fuel injection?
  9. Another odd thing about the current set up is that it does not seem to have a vent for the tank at all.
  10. Thanks for the responses guys. I'll have to see how much usuable space I have further forward. That would keep the cost down by re-using what I already have. Although I will most likely have to re-do the lines. If there is not enough room, or the cost of the braided lines is about the same, I will put it inside the cell. Thanks again. Marty
  11. Hi Guys, I just picked up a '71 240Z Track car, that is set up for road racing. I have never had a pupose built race car before, so this car has a lot of firsts for me. It is turbo charged for one, with a Megasquirt system, so I need to learn about fuel injection. I have it at a race shop right now getting a fiber glass front end fitted on it. One of the things the shop owner brought to my attention is that it has a surge tank mounted very close to the rear valance and next to the fuel cell. That could be very dangerous if I get hit from behind or go into a wall backwards. His suggestion was to move the surge tank up under the hood where it would be more protected. Unfortunately his shop deals mostly with vintage racers and he does not have a lot of experience with fuel injection either. My questions is: would moving the surge tank up under the hood be a good place for it? Or is there a reason that it has to be next to the fuel cell? TIA, Marty

  17. MSA has a new version of the BRE Style rear spoiler. It is 5 3/8" tall versus the standard BRE which is 3 7/8" tall. Has anyone out there bought and fitted one? I was wondering about quality of materials and fitment. I want a BRE style spoiler and like the idea that it is a little taller. TIA, Marty
  18. One more word of caution... Don't do it unless you are willing to get addicted!!! A friend of mine kept bugging me to go to a drivers school just to try it out. I went to the 1 day school and that was it, I was hooked!! That was 7 years ago. The other thing to keep in mind is that driving on a track is very hard on a car. Things can break. Accidents do happen. If you are not willing to leave the car at the track after a mishap, don't take it there. Your insurance company most likely won't cover you either. In my case I didn't want to risk messing up my blue car. That lead me to buying my yellow car for track use. And like I said, this is addictive, which is why I am in the process of buying a purpose built race car. That being said, I don't want to ruin it for you. It truly will be a blast driving your 240Z the way is was meant to be driven. Have fun! Marty
  19. If you are worried about having enough brakes, you could switch to the Toyota 4x4 brakes and braided lines. That is a definite improvement. High boiling point brake fluid is also a good idea, but if you have fresh DOT 3, you should be ok. Start out with the tires at about 32 lbs pressure. Most tires have a little ^ near the edge of the tread. Take a bottle of white liquid shoe polish with you place a white dot over the ^. When you come off the track, look at the dot and see how much of it is worn off. If the dot is worn away right up to the ^, then your tire pressure is probably pretty good. You want to see your tires rolling over right up to the ^. Have fun, and like someone said, drive within yours and the cars limits. You don't want to wad up that pretty Z! Marty
  20. With everything I wanted to do to my car, it was just cheaper to buy a different car that had all the work already done. I am ending up with a turbo charged 240Z with WAY more horse power than carbs could provide. So, my yellow '71 will be up for sale soon. Marty
  21. Wolf Creek Racing will supply you with a complete 44MM Triple Mikuni set up with rebuilt, race-prepped carbs, manifold and linkage for $1550. They have been racing Datsuns for 25 years and really know what they are doing. If I was going the Mikuni route, I would go with them. My 2 cents. Marty
  22. I popped the retainer springs off. That was enough to allow the cam to move freely. Thanks!
