  1. Is the follower the surface that the cam lobe rides on? How exactly do the come off?
  2. I had to pull the head on my L24 to change the blown head gasket. Two of the head bolts broke off. I didn't have the time or the tools to deal with that, so I took it over to a local engine builder. They did a nice job on it. Today, I want to put everything back together. I noticed that the cam has moved out of place from where it was when I took it in to get fixed. I can't seem to get the cam to rotate. That seems odd. I did not want to force it. So I have a couple of questions. What is the best way to rotate the cam? How much force does it take to rotate it? Also, does it spin in only one direction? TIA, Marty
  3. Sorry, I must be a little Dyslexic today, ! That would be Tucson, AR.
  4. Hi guys, I need to pick up a car in Tuscon on March. 6th. I will be driving out from Chicago on March. 5th, with a 20' Enclosed trailer that will be empty. If you or anyone you know needs a car delivered to the Tuscon area or anywhere in between, please PM me. We can work out a good deal for both of us. Thanks, Marty
  5. Here is your chance to drive on track at Road America, one of the premier tracks in the country. April 17 & 18th. Road America offers 4 miles of track with 14 turns in a beautiful setting. There will be 4-5 sessions per day at 20 minutes each. The event is hosted by the Midwest F-Body Association. All Marques are welcome. I have run with this group for several years and it is always a great time! Never driven on a track before?? No problem! There will be plenty of qualified instructors on hand, including yours truly. They need 20 more entries per day by Feb. 14th. So if you are at all interested in driving at a Historic track, sign up today!!! http://roadamerica.fbody.us/ Hope to see you there, Marty
  6. Well there's a thought! I do need to get the front end and doors painted on the new car. It may not cost that much more to turn it yellow. Since I going to use the flywheel, clutch and collar that are in there now. I think I should be fine. Marty
  7. I know I will regret it. Hell, I am having second thoughts already, !! I wanted to get more HP and performance. That would have meant coilovers, camber plates, an LSD, a hotter cam and triple Mikuni's. That would have got me about 230HP and a seriously quick car. But, I am sure after a couple of years I would have been looking for still more HP. It was cheaper in the long to just get a race that was already done. Besides, the yellow car is just too nice to start cutting into. Marty
  8. Well, I let my track obsession get the best of me, !! I went out and bought a purpose built track car, so I need to let the yellow Z go. I want to keep the '83 L28 and 5 spd as spares for the track car, so I am putting the original drive train back in the car before I sell it. Guess I will have to resign from the Yellow Z Car Club now, !!! Marty
  9. It's been awhile since I had to deal with this issue, so I thought I would throw out my plan and have you guys confirm my thinking. The car is an early '71. I currently have an '83 ZX motor and 5 spd in it. The flywheel is a 240mm from a 2+2 with a matching Nissan clutch. Auto adjust slave cylinder for the 5spd, with the ZX throwout bearing collar and fork. I am going to put the original L24 and 4 spd back in. I intend to put in the fly wheel, clutch, throwout bearing collar, fork and slave cyinder from the ZX set up. My understanding is that if you keep all of this the same, it will match up to either trans, correct? TIA, Marty
  10. Hmmmn, I am surprised you let a snow plow out on your pretty new track! It's really sick how they tear up the streets around here. Marty
  11. I have used Speed Bleeders for several years and like them a lot. Darrell, I put about a 10-12' hose right onto the bleeder on one end and attached to a Speed Bleeder collection bag on the other. I can hold onto the bag in the driver's seat while pumping the brakes and see exactly what is coming out. It works great! Marty Damn, track days already!! We have to wait till April around here.
  12. Ask Darrell. The clubs near Denver just finshed building one last year I think. Marty
  13. Did you put any bushing grease on the bump stop before install? I was wondering if it would squeek without it? I will definitely be using this method. Marty
  14. Sorry I don't have a resolution to your problem. But if I were you, I would build a splash shield under those carbs to keep gas well away from the carbs. Leaky Webers burned up my first 240Z. Good luck. Marty
  15. Thanks! I would be interested in getting more details (P/N, cost, etc.) on the fuel regulator. I have a feeling my current setup is not going to cut it with Tripple Mikuni's.
  16. What are you using as a fuel pressure regulator? Do you have any close-ups of the fuel gauge on the firewall? The Aeroquip lines do look sweet! I have always wanted to put that on my car some day. But $400 for 3 lines, ouch!! I didn't know it cost that much.
  17. Ha ha, Greg, you are one tricky guy, !! Are your SU's stock or seriously tweaked? I realize that the class you run in may require you to use SU's. A friend of mine that runs in Vintage up here said he is the only one in his class still running SU's. Several people have implied that if I go with a hotter cam, that the SU's just won't let it breath enough. Anyway, I need to get more power out of this beast. I figured the triples was one of the faster, easier ways to do it. Marty
  18. Yep, they are bit pricey. Do you think that they are hard to tune? Hard to keep in tune? Marty
  19. Thanks Greg. Your cars sounds really sweet!! I am about 90% convinced to go with the Mikuni's at this point. I have not really heard anything bad about them. Marty
  20. Congrats! That's a really nice color. A Blue interior would be really nice. I am kind of partial, because that is what mine is. Check out my gallery if you want to see what the combo looks like. Blue parts are almost impossible to find though. Marty
  21. I have seen the ebay car in person, although briefly, and can attest that it is a pretty nice original example. I didn't go over it with a fine tooth comb or hear it run. The interior is a bit faded, but still pretty nice. Marty
  22. My car (#5341, blt 6/70) had them when I bought it. I thought someone had done a reair, as I had not seen them before. Marty
  23. I just sold a hitch for my car last year. I used it to pull a small utility trailer for my race tires. There was a cross bar that mounted behind the bumper using the bumper mount bolts. Unfortunatley I don't have a picture of that piece on this computer, but you can kind of seem hehind the bumper. It pulled like there was nothing behind me. Marty
  24. Aaron, I have been to their websiteseveral times, but never saw the set-up pamphlet. Thanks for the head-up on that. Glad to hear I can get vaccuum on the manifold. That is one less thing I need to deal with. Marty
  25. Yeah I know. I have a separate post where we are discussing coilovers. The suggestion there was to get an LSD instead. Ideally I would like to do the Mikuni's, a hotter cam, coilovers and an LSD. I only have some much funding though, !! I am thinking of what makes the most sense to get the most bang for my bucks. Right now the suspension handles very well. I know coilovers would be an improvement, but I am not that unhappy with the handling. So what I am leaning toward now is to get an LSD and put on the Mikuni's. As funds allow, I will put in the hotter cam and follow up with the coilovers. All opinions welcome! Marty
