  1. The muffler shop sort of cut the Y pipe in half, creating a larger opening and them bent and welded the 2 1/4 pipe to fit. A good muffler shop will figure it out. As far as the flow goes, I have heard that the 240 monifold actually does flow pretty well. the larger pipes will help it breath easier/
  2. Kmack, The turbo muffler goes at the tail end of the car. Skip the resonator in the middle, you don't really need it. I was very picky about how the sound was. I didn't want the car to be loud. The shop convinced my to go without the resonator and even offfered to add one in if I didn't like the sound. It you go with a good quality, thick gauge 2 1/4" system, it will lessen the boominess you get witha 2 1/2" piped system. With this setup, the car is nice and quiete, but has a nice growl when you tromp the gas. Marty
  3. Sorry to hear and see your loss. I know how you feel. My 1st 240Z went up in a blaze of glory when the center weber carb stuck open and poured gas on the hot header. This was after spending 7 years restoring it to near concourse condition. They only thing that kept mne from really getting bummed out was that I walked away unharmed. Eventially I got another 240 and I am enjoying this one even more. There are a lot of Z's out there. Glad to see you could walk away from that one. Marty
  4. The pipes from the manifold all come together at one point. On mine, the sort of cut off part of that collector, flattened out the tube and welded it on there. Marty
  5. The "pre-muffler" is a resonator. Its function it to quiet the car down further. I did not use one and don't miss it. There is a brand of muffler that is very popular, I think it is called a Dynomax. Stay away from that one, as I heard it is really loud. Talk to the guy at the muffler shop and explain what you want. They usually will have a couple of choices. I wish I could remember the brand I bought, but that was over 3 years ago. Good luck! Marty
  6. To get any significant additional HP, you would need to stick an L28 block in there, with triple carbs and a high lift cam. Take me advice, you will love the sound.
  7. I believe this car is pretty stock right? Unless you have real sleeper here with a monster motor under the hood, forget about the headers and exotic pipes. It won't do much with a stock engine. A header will only net you 1-3HP, and will be prone to exhaust leaks, rust and make the car louder. 2 1/2 inch pipes tend to be loud and create a nasty booming sound under the car @ 2500RPM. I suggest you go to a good muffler shop and have them custom bend you one with 2 1/4 inch pipes, teminated with a nice turbo muffler at the back. Thats what I did. It has a real nice growl, without being obnoxiously loud. It only cost me $126.00 complete. Good luck! Marty
  8. But did you use hi-gloss on the wood part too? Marty
  9. I am in the middle of restoring my wheel using the same process. I have the paint stripped off the spokes and in primer. Did you use a semi-gloss of a high gloss clear coat on the rim? Thanks, Marty
  10. Whall, I am always interested in finding new sources for parts. Email me directly at marty.rogan@motorola.com. Let me know which parts you are looking for. I do have one extra part that I would sell. It is in OK shape, but hey maybe its better than what you have. Marty
  11. Sorry to hear about that. I hate to hear that another Z hit the dust, especially a '70. I don't have a '70 to sell, but I do have one that I am working on. If you are interested in selling some of those NOS parts, shoot me a list of what you have and prices to: marty.rogan@motorola.com Thanks, Marty
  12. Thanks for the reply. I actually have a very straight one that I could rechrome. I just don't want to go through the hassle if I don't have to. Thanks anyway.
  13. Very nice looking Z!!! Isn't that the one that was bought from Ebay? It would take alot of guts to buy something sight unseen. I want to clime all over, under and drive it before I would buy a car. Marty
  14. I am looking for a complete new rear bumper and bumper guards for a front bumper for my '70. Rechromed would be ok too. IF anyone has one that they want to get rid of at a decent price, let me know. Thanks, Marty
  15. Mike, I had my engine out last spring. Tried to mount the engine at the trans, but it wanted to tip over, being nose heavy. I removed the alternator and its bracket, and I believe the bolt that holds the engine pull hook and bolted the stand right to the engine block, with no extra plates or anything. Just make sure you get a 4 point stand (for stability) and one that has adjustable arms for mounting. Good luck! Marty
  16. Didn't the Black Pearl edition have red accent stripes on the hood? Also, that edition came out in 1978!!! I don't I could ever feel comfortable buying a car off Ebay, without being able to see it first. Marty
  17. Are you talking about the Anti-backfire valve? That came with the Z Therapy set-up as well. I have put about 1,000 miles on them and am happy withthem so far.
  18. I am not sure what you mean by vaccuum canisters on the intake. I bought the whole Z Therapy set up. Intake manifold, carbs, linkages and new Nissan carb insulators. I did find a couple of products that do a great job of cleaning of old grease and grime though. Goop Hand cleaner with a Scotch Brite pad works great. TSP is a strong cleaner. And Castrol makes a cleaner that is really powerful on grease. Used that to clean the engine bay. Marty
  19. No the original did not look that good! The original color was Dark Blue metalic 903. It was not that nice. The PO painted the exterior before I got it. As I was told, it is Ford, Midnight Blue, 2 basecoats, with 3 coats of clear. I like it way better than the original color. About yours, you should be fine switching from one original color to another, as long as you do a thorough job of changing it everywhere. That is if you are going the originality route. I had a '73 before, that I mildly customized. It was originally that pukey lime yellow, which I coudn't stand. I repainted it Guards Red (Porche), with Golld pearl in the clear coat. That car was drop dead beautiful!!! So, If you like red, go for it!! Just be prepared to be noticed by the cops too.
  20. Daniel, The valve cover is one of the early 2400 OHC covers. They were only available on the '70 model I believe. Marty
  21. I always find it interesting to see the cars that belong to our club members. So, I thought I would share a pic or two of mine. I picked up this car (HLS30-05341, blt 6/70) about 3 1/2 years ago. It had 69K on it, about 74K now. I redid the whole interior, which is the rare blue color. This past year I restored the engine compartment, complete with all new seals, timing chain, paint, new Z Therapy carbs, new decals and as much new parts as I could get my hands on. It has Panasports, Yokahama 215/60/15's and Tokico struts. Next I hope to redo the entire suspension with stock parts. This is the second 240Z that I have restored, and have loved every minute of it! The first pic is at the Indy Z Car show, where it took Marty
  22. Actually, I think they are from a 1978 280Z. A friend of mine bought a new '79 ZX, but didn't like the wheels. He got them to switch some previous model year wheels on it for him. Marty
  23. Go to the main menu and click on the web links. It list 74 businesses that sell Z parts. You can find anything you need with that list. Marty
  24. I believe the serial number is stamped into the firewall, behind the top of the brake master cylinder. Marty
