  1. Was Dennis Gage actually there? Did he talk to anybody, or just run through with some camera guys? That's 3pm for east time people....
  2. Not only that, but you have to take into account the topography of where you are or will be driving. Long range beams do very little in a hilly area.
  3. Traditionally, fog lamps, usually with yellow or orange light, should be very low and wide to spread the light across the road just ahead of the car, to illuminate the edges of the road, so they should go under the bumper near the ends. Driving lamps are traditionally mount higher, and closer together to illuminate the road more brightly and further away, so they should go at about the same height as the headlamps, and closer together, but can be tailored to give light as desired. the S30 has a problem with the mounting position for driving lamps, because the later models have the turn signal lamps in the place where you would probably mount the driving lamps, so you will need to compromise. Alternatively, the rally cars put the driving lamps in the best position, across the hood, but that's not a good idea for use on public roadways.
  4. I don't see any INFINITI cars in the teaser video. One would think that all the types of cars entering the show would be represented even for a moment?
  5. I'm hoping the next ZCON has no Infinitis in the judged car show. I don't car how people travel to & from the show, or if there are are some extra places in the track/lapping event, but the SHOW is for Z Cars.
  6. There is a new Car Warriors coming up on Wednesday night. Despite the recent lawsuit by SKJ customs ( from the '79 Lincoln show) it looks like the All-Stars are still in the show...
  7. This is a little side-related, but where did the 280Z have the intake for the floor vents? I have the round holes in the radiator support, but not the oval holes in the fender. thxZ
  8. So I'm having the mechanic install new bearings while I wait for better weather, and today I get a call from his boss to come over to look t a problem with the axle. When I got there, he explain the guy was turning the stub axle nut off, and stripped off most of the threads. I asked why he didn't consult the documents I provided, and he said there was no need, the tech used a punch to loosen up the peened area of the nut. The FSM says to "remove the wheel bearing lock nut." the Atlantic Z writeup says you should use a mototool/Dremel with a small cutoff wheel to cut off the outer, peened ring That obviously didn't work, because the tech guy just turned the nut off and stripped off most of the threads. See photo. Si now the shop manager wants ME to buy two new stub axles (at $300 each, -IF- you find one) and new nuts so the tech can do the other side too. Do you think the shop is at fault? Maybe they should accept some responsibility and do the job for free or something? Here's a photo of what it looks like. Maybe it can still be used? the Atlantic Z writeup says you can use a ZX nut which has a plastic lock ring in it in stead of peening it down. That sounds better to me. thxZ
  9. I would never let that guy even touch my car. My car would look really ugly with 23 inch wheels and pink pastel paint. After arresting those guys as accessories to a felony theft, I would have to have it overhauled back to normal. Yeesh. BTW- Speed is showing the 240Z show AGAIN. To add insult to injury, I'll bet, I just heard the one guy say "EVERY RACE CAR HAS TWO STRIPES DOWN THE CENTER!" After this is the next Car Warriors- '79 Cadillac! Maybe they'll put Semi-tractor exhaust stacks and a fifth-wheel on that?
  10. The new show starts tomorrow night (Wed, Mar 23) on the Discovery channel. From the previews, it looks like a better show than car warriors, but we will see for sure. I kinda miss Junkyard Wars, where they built interesting stuff that actually works from what you find in the junkyard.
  11. Radio shack sells a bag of short pieces of heat shrink tube you can use or practice, and you can borrow a blow dryer if you have to, but the butane lighter works, if you are careful not to burn things. Practice and experience are what makes the prettiest solder & shrink jobs. Clean the wire up well (no black corrosion) before soldering, ad use a low wattage (25W) instead of the soldering gun. Put the shrink tube over the wire before soldering, and don't let the shrink get hot (you'll find out )
  12. I was referring to the lamp inside the hazard switch. There wasn't any consistency between the few wiring diagrams I have. One shows the lamp wired to the hazard switch connector, and another one has no lamp. The FSM shows the lamp wired to the connector. See the attachment.
  13. Yeah, junkyard connectors will clean up really well, just be careful which ones you cut off, and if you get them from the newer cars, they'll be better then the ones Datsun used. IIRC, for the price of one new connector from eBay, you could probably get all you need from the JY.
  14. I will have to say I was speechless when I saw the finished white car, only because i was busy filling up my trash can with BARF. I wasn't too crazy about the red car either. If the red car team was bunch of "pros" who work on megabuck imports all day long, it sort of explains how they didn't do so well putting in the V8, and I really think the interior person wasn't even part of the real team, just somebody they grabbed at the last minute. I saw Car Warriors a week or so ago, when the TV guide said it was the 240Z but all I saw was a couple newer Monte Carlos, which looked kinda nice with only a new engine and some fresh paint and interior. they looked like they were almost new. OTOH, I was chatting with the Hybrids guys while the show was on the other night, and we all agreed that the show was "fixed." I could never believe some wrench monkeys could have drawn that car design so easily, or done the body work that well. If you want to see a vehicle show where everybody gets along and they build nice vehicles, try Truck-U, chop-Cut-Rebuild, or some of those Sunday morning shows. If someone wants to start an email campaign to end or fix up the show, I'm in.
  15. Use some RTV silicone stuff if you just want to keep them on temporarily, but replacing them with new ones is the only good solution. You can get good ones from the JY. I got a whole bunch from a JY called Vines Auto, where they are loaded with NMWs.
  16. No way! That's one of those extremely rare one-off 250s!
  17. The factory only used the insulation in the form on compressed mats, so anything that looks like it came from the garage attic was probably added by the PO, as a cur for something that made noise while riving. I think you're right about it being a good seed for dirt accumulation and rust.
  18. My rubber hoses from the body to the calipers/cylinders were old and soft, so they would swell and even leaked a bit occasionally, which I think caused a weak feeling. I installed a set of the braided stainless hoses and it improved a LOT. I had the same issue with my DD (rear rubber hoses would swell.)
  19. My 78 didn't have the light for the Hazard switch, and I couldn't even find any evidence that there ever was one.I was considering putting one in, as the hazard switch is a fairly important item, IMO. I would just need a lamp socket and the metal holder. Can You getthose little metal plates, or should I have to make one? No spares in the spares box.
  20. Instead of watching car warriors (ever) there's a new TV show where these two guys keep old cars in the desert and (restore) them. It's called Desert car kings, and will be on the Discovery Channel on Wednesday nights.
  21. That's why I like to watch the vintage stuff like the Goodwood Festival or the Monterey Historic races. Those guys know how to steer and race- very smooooth. About the worst hing you'll see is a guy slide off into the grass. I have not seen a collision yet.
  22. That was when the winning racer had great driving talent, and not the car with big horsepower. The races were kinda boring compared to today's stuff as there was not that many mishaps, IIRC.
  23. MSA is still selling them, but it seems that as soon as they get some, they are sold. they must have a long list of people waiting to receive them. I saw what mine looked like, and they didn't look bad (see attached photo) the only thing I was concerned about is that the stuff on the bottom where the spring touches was worn off. What could you put on there to protect it and stand up to the pounding of the spring? Plasti-dip is the only thing that I can think of.
  24. I saw it on the TV guide and turned to the channel, And all I saw was two newer Monte Carlos! I thought it was odd that they were installing a V8 engine, the boxy fenders, and that the doors had a perfectly straight sill with a square rear quarter window, until I saw what they were actually working on.
  25. Well, I'm glad this teaser is better than the one I saw on Yahoo for last year's ZCON, which was basically a commercial for 350Zs, and used some video from the 2007 convention. It didn't even have one photo of Nashville in it! Just 350Zs driving fast.
