  1. That's cool, Steven. Do you have any links for that? It'll take a while to digest, and better yet, some diagrams for the 280Z would be good. I noticed an empty plug on my coil that I can't identify.
  2. You started talking about the resistor in your last post, then started talking about the coil. The 240Zs, and most 260Zs had points ignition, so it applies there. Since there's no ballast resistor in the 280Z with apoints-less distributor, the coil is very important, and I posted a relevant link about that.
  3. zgarage.com has a good article about the coils to use, and tells you how to pick the right one- not the 'high-voltage' one you'd use on points ignition. You're actually looking for one with the right resistance. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html
  4. My experiences with Hondas are of the kind that they suck, and My Ford has been perfect since day one. That's a subject for another forum. Go start one there iof you will. It appears that you should change your username to reflect that you are an expert on cognitive processes. thx
  5. It's not a FAKE shifter. No idea is lame unless you give up in it, or don't develop it. Give non-sarcastic, constructive input. What features would you want? You are assuming the company is SO GREEDY that they won't do anything that won't profit them millions a day. WRONG! This is the U.S.A., where companies give millions, altogether, to give to people in ravaged third-world countries. Just for the feel-good purpose! Then they write it off. Where would we be if the Wrght brothers gave up on the airplane, just because EVERYBODY--- EVERYBODY ---- EVERYBODY --- EVERYBODY told them it would NEVER WORK! thx
  6. 1. I hate spinner hubcaps. they give me a headache. 2. I won't ever be buying a Honda. Unless Ford buys them too. 3. I don't remember saying that I'm leaving my console with the rough edges. Dude, before you go making irrelevant remarks, you should ASK and get clarification as to what the purpose of the object is. Presumptions on YOUR part make you look foolish. A LOT of that going on here with people just blurting out irrelevant remarks like "Nobody makes one" when the point was to get somebody to MAKE ONE. I've been working on this idea for years. I thought there might be somebody with connections, or an engineer who could figure it out. It looks like all we have here is "experts." Very few, if any, constructive options were given. Apparently, all you guys understand here are 1-word phrases, like P30, or N42. thx
  7. We should get B&M to make a period-looking automatic transmission shifter to use on the S30 cars. I prefer one with the horizontal H-gate.
  8. I wouldn't want to do that. I think the transmission shifts just fine as is.
  9. Ooooohhh.... I'm getting a vision of that Solomons Island 240Z, with the rust everywhere......
  10. OK... That would explain why I don't see one. Can you explain why it's not there? Possibly because the distributor doesn't have points? thx
  11. I started with an S.O.S. pad to get the grease off which seemed to do half the job! Then some 280-grit for the corners where you can see 'stretch marks.' I don't think that was coarse enough, but I'll keep at it with the 280. Some good tips for polishing between the lettering would help- besides grinding the letters off thx

I was only 10 when the 240Z came out!

I'm used to build sheets. You might be familiar with other things. You can call it a production order, build sheet or brochure. In any case there has to be a record, someplace, of what equipment a car has. Either detailed with all the options added on, or just the standard equipment. I wouldn't buy a new car without one.
  15. Can somebody tell me where the ballast resistor is supposed to be on a 280Z? I thought it would be very near the coil, but the only thing I see there is a noise cap. thx.

There are bearings inside for the advance mechanism held by a plastic cage. the cage often breaks and the advance fails. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html
  17. I have a notebook full of ideas on the subject. Not having machining tools & stuff means I gotta get somebody else to do it. Nor am I a shifter engineer. My specialty is Chemistry, so I'm be better at designing a new metal for the shifter, or a new paint. And like I said, I can't use a manual-shift transmission. And, AFAIK, you can't get a sequential transmission to to fit the L28 engine. It would be easier & cheaper to just change the shifter. It's not a question of being a manual shift wannabe! It's just a different kind of sporty shifter! How many people haft 'short-throw shifters?' By your logic, you don't need that, do you? Pancho- Sorry, typo. My fingers are tired & tangled. What's a dog-leg shift pattern? thx
  18. I dunno how long it took to develop the thing. I heard about it in 1990, then tried to buy one in 1993,when I orderd my GTO stuff, and then the salesman told me they stopped making them. That makes 3 years. Unfortunately, The biggest problem was that it didn't catch on like you would think. It's such a different idea that it would take a while. That part you got right. Many NEW ideas take a while, like paddle shifters. I'm not hot for those myself. Nor do many cars have them( I can think of 3), so why do they bother offering them in cars?
  19. Yeah, I'd buy one if it would WORK. I'd make a mount for it with a nice box & everything. Many nice mods in my car already: full-size wheel in the back flip-up toolbox lid fancy shifter handle euro-style trunk pull & door pulls modern day/night rearview mirror power steering supportive seats etc
  20. They just need to fix the problem so they can get it (certified for competition). The idea/design can be adapted for different shift patterns, like it is for Ford C4-C6, Chevy T250-350-TH700, Mopar, etc. It should also be relatively easy to make a change for the Nissan shift gate. Remember the S30 auto trans is a LOT like the one in the Maxima, et al.
  21. What does the 90-96 Z32 have to do with a shifter designed in 1991?
  22. No, no no..... You're thinking backwards... B&M designs and build shifters. They're experts at it! I saidthe shifter would be put into a million cars, it would earn $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !!!!! You're thinking small. thing BIG. Make it an idea that WILL happen.
  23. It doesn't have to FIT the aS30 car. We just need them to start making them again. I's not a "pretend" shifter. I see it as the evolution of the straight-gate now used. I see it as the shifter you'd get in any performance-minded car ( which is a LOT of them). I don't see to many rachet-shifters on street cars, so they must be useless too, huh? the H-pattern is just the name given to shifters for the 4 and 5-speed transmissions. You might also call it a horizontal-gate. Tthere is also a vertical-gate or "Z-gate" shift pattern. No need for a clutch pedal, because there's no clutch. B&M WAS interested in 90-93. They designed it, patented it, and marketed it, but they suddenly took it off the market before it hit the shelves because if a problem with the reverse lock-out that racers needed. I thought there might be somebody here with connections at B&M that might use the clout of this group to resurrect the project. To our benifit of course. thx
  24. gnosez- why didn't you chime in a year ago, when this topic was started? For me, it was the first time "Official Z.C.C.A. Z-Car Judging Manual" was mentioned, or at least the first time I noticed it enough to go look into it.
