  1. I assume you drained them to get them to collapse. Maybe you could cut them a little shorter and stick a spring (motorcycle shock?) in there for some some minimal protection. Does look much better tho.
  2. No mater how hard you tighten the nuts, they're still too lose when you flex the 2400 lb. car ( did you put 2000 ft-lbs of torque on the bolts?) Really... Maybe later on you could weld in a gusset to your properly-adjusted bar to permanently set the ends, then chrome/paint everything. Then again, for $8 you could buy a steel pipe and make one that's just as functional. Actually, the best way to make it really rigid would be to run a bar from the frame rail on one side to the top of the strut on the other (diagonally), then the other way. That way there's no way things could flex. The hubs would have to break off! Isn't the engine in the way?
  3. Uh Oh, you got one of those bars with the pivotting ends... Those bars don't help you much, because the pivots still allow the suspension to flex, like a wobbly rectangle-- it just keeps the geometry the same. One with rigid ends is better.
  4. If the bumper shocks don't have any spring action, then your bumpers are totally useless. Before, the shocks allowed the bumper to take a light bump (5 MPH) without damage. So now, if your bumper shocks have no spring, then the force of an impace goes straight into the body/frame, or the shocks themselves will get squashed like a pop can. A better option would be to get shorter bumper shocks, but then you still run the risk of bending the sheetmetal if you get bumped because the bumpers are too close with no room to move.
  5. Great! All we need now is to figure how to get rid of the carbon cannister without (too much) fumes.

Oops! I thought our UK friends had originally said the "local Z crowd " being small comment . No offense intended.

Chris-- Could you email that picture of Jean Todt to me or re-post it? There were problems viewing the picture (says it's a corrupt file/errors). thx.

    Targa Ohio!

I was just thinking that since Ohio is kind of squarish/pentagonal, it would be cool to see a rally (race) around the state. I'm going to dig up some maps later to see if the roads will actually make a circuit around the state. Did I forget any major stuff? Besides that, someone will probably have to actually travel the circuit and measure the distances and confirm the ccircuit and such. While I'm not an expert at setting up a (race)- just thought I would put some effort into the feasability of the idea. Then one day, after my Zed is back on its wheels, I would do this thing- if I got to that. Would make for a cool movie, maybe a kind of cannonball run. I also would like to dreive Route 66, U.S. 1 (east coast- maine-Miami) and the (West coast highway?)

The "local Z crowd" ?? I think he just put a flamethrower on the fire this time... It is good to have a confirmation that this publisher is chasing the dollar (Pound) more than the historical truth. I think it is also interesting that VRJ mentions that this car 'will not be going for sale' when that's not the point! The point is that this Italian "expert" is insisting that the car is the one, and it isn't. From my familarity with that part of Europe, I can tell you that they probably will not change their story just because some guys from the U.S. are telling them so. After all, they are part of a museam, where they have factual stuff??

Just don't get the Italians riled up, mate! Wouldn't want them making trouble for us...
  11. that's why your "Check Engine" light goes on when the ignition is on, and turns off when the ehgine starts up!! ...Exept the light is inside the car. Eaxact same thing.
  12. The older radios were different behind the front panel. Nothing like the conpemporary units. You might be better off making your own bracket(s). I used my stock bracket, but put a piece of 1 inch blue foam as a cushion for the radio.

If you don't get or see any clarification it's probably because they believe they have so many readers with such blind faith in their (facts). This is unfortunate that it can and probaby does go unchecked because there is nothing to keep them from doing it, like your local newspaper would have. It would be interesting to have Kats get some pictures of the #5? in Japan and ask them how they have the same car in Italy?
  14. My "switch flicking solution" isn't as simple as just stomping on the gas pedal.. You'd have to reach over after you start the engine and push the switch lever or button every time. It just seems easier to leave it alone, since it's already put together and 'not broken.'

Doesn't Guus have the car that finished 1st in 1977 and 2nd in 1979/1980?? I'll attest to that!

Make sure the proper names goes with the pictures. Also make sure you are paid EXTREMELY well BEFORE you send them copies of your archival stuff so they can get their records in order! Good on yer, alan.
  17. What's so bad about having to rev the motor once to 2000? I doit evrey time I start mine just to hear it rev Otherwise, I think there's a way to hook up a switch you will have to flick once after you start the engine- same as revving it.

Orange Mud? Or maybe fading of the cheap factory paint?
  19. DeLoreans aren't ugly. A little boxy, and plain. Rides like a tank (stiff). and I don't think the engine lacks power. What can you expect from the first car of a new auto company?
  20. Well... Wasn't there a program about the Pontiac GTO on the History channel last week? FYI- GTO stands for 'The Great One."
  21. This stuff sounds like a miracle liquor. You put it on your connector pins and they get shiny clean! But where do you buy it in big cans, and get you get it in bottles for soaking? The only place I found so far after Internet searching is at music stores that sell Amps & guitars?... I have some CorrosionX, but that's different.
  22. You mean Pontic GTO, right?

Of course the Museum's and Nissan's directors are ggoing to tell you that those are the "race winning cars!" Do you think that they would tell you that Datsuns didn't win the race? Even at that level in the corporate hierarchy, they have to CYA themthelves somewhat. Just like the truck wars in the U.S. where every manufacturer will tell you that THEIR truck has "the most power" or whatever...

they even have a statement on the home page: "I am impressed by the research, the detail, and the depth of Vintage Racecar. " Sir Stirling Moss Oh really??......
  25. Higuy, Courtesy Nissan in TX has the factory Service Manuals (FSM) on CD: http://www.zcarcreations.com/cdman/cdman.htm The Haynes books are OK for reference and to read before you get to the FSM. I keep a few reference books handy.
