  1. i've seen the guts of the bumpers of my 97 Escortand it's just a square CF box, but it weights about 40 lbs. there's no reason I can think of that you couldn't take a mould off somerthing you like and pop out some CF copies. Might make you famous.
  2. The only way to really reduce tragedies IMO, is for people to mature as a whole. You might say that people in general haven't changed too much since the Industrial age began, becoming more technologically sophisticated doesn't mean that we can make safe use of what is here for us. Like the drug use pandemic, or smoking, if people were REALLY mature, they would be happy without these things. It just takes a lot of TIME. Hopefully the world will survive until then.
  3. I don't think I would recommend that you remove the bumper shocks. They keep your frame rails and maybe the bumpers themselves from getting bent if you do get bumped. Instead of the 240Z bumpers, how about something a little more available, like early corvette? I think it would still look decent. Maybethe gap in the middle would be a problem to work around?
  4. I finally found it in the Results section. That one car must have a special history, because the serial #162252 doesn't seem to special either. Plus it has aftermarket a/c. Te results went back about 10 years and most of the Zs were under $5. I guess the one I got was really PRIMO. at $4k I'd sell mine for $50k, but then I'd by another one, totally restored, with a better engine! O- L :disappoin
  5. No! I'm making a tie-pin from it! Or maybe a beltbuckle.
  6. I'm working on the car mechanicals right now. Need a little more money to get the body work done, but I think the body will go on next fall. So right now only the badge is on there. If ther ricers can have the stickers, I'll have my badge!
  7. I think that if you could afford to buy and keep one of those cars, you could afford to have a tow home and get a new one machined or something.
  8. I was refering to the cavallino rampante on the back of my 280Z. You are correct, nonetheless. I wouldn't be surprised is some guy thought it was an 70s corvette. or something.
  9. Theatrical, yes. Original what? At 65 years old I don't think it would start or even move. It should be rusted solid by then. The rubber hoses should be dust, unable to hold any kind of pressure, like the ones on my 78 280Z. But those guys occasionally say (on air) that the auction people and sellers go to great lengths to make sure the cars get the fair price for what it is. What do you thin a 280Z would go for when it's 65 years old? From some of the insurance caims I read about on the forums, I don't think they'll let you insure it at that age! Well, OK, they give you the $150 for the worth of the scrap steel.
  10. I dunno about badges... Mine has a shiny silver prancing horse on the back! Horse-power??
  11. There's an excellent example of the kind of cars that would seet the standard for having Zeds on a show like Barrett-Jackson (2-Ts in Barrett). Just because a Z car never had a name like "Eleanor" or raced across the streets of San Fransisco to give it real notoriety doesn't mean they aren't out there. the Mustangs and Carmaros and the rest seem to have a head start, so, like Allain said, they just haven't caught up yet. How many more are there that the public doesn't really know of? We could do doourselves a favour by making the important examples noticed.
  12. I replaced all the rubber fuel lines on mine as they were springing leaks. I think it would be a good idea, as it looks like, you are going over the fuel lines and system for safety and to make sure it's a closed system.
  13. If you block off the return line, something could rupture and spew fuel, or the pump(s) could get damaged. The return line is so the extra fuel/pressure can bleed off back to the fuel tank.
  14. Those people mus t be automotive "experts"
  15. What car is that? I thought the carby engines didn't have a carbon cannister. the parallel line could be a return line.
  16. I think a big reason to add is that the Z-cars were considered sporty race cars, and since they've never won at LeMans, or Sebring, or any other "famous race", they never really made to big fame, like the enzos or Jag, Astin-Martin, Porsche, etc. At least in numbers. One or two rallies spread out by years probably doesn't mean much to those kinds of people. "Nice 240," I was surprised you didn't say "280", or "ZX" because that's what people usually think of. Until I got interested the the GTO kit, I didn't really know much about the 240 or 260.
  17. The same reason is why it's good for US.
  18. What kind of things can you do to upgrade the ignition system on a 78 280Z? I talked to a guy the hat works on Zs and he told me to use the stock coil because it has higher voltage. I think I would start with the distributor- do they make overhaul kits for that? A Search found only 240Z stuff. Right now I have all the stock stuff and it looks like it might even be original. thx.
  19. All you need then is the resistance coefficient of the wire used to figure its resistance and probably the current rating. My car has 2 red,1 brown and 1 black (plus 1 black foir the e.f.i. system) It would help me to know what the current ratings were so I can put the right one on the right subsection, although I could just go with what the book says to use.
  20. tjere has to be some correlatiopn between the cross-section and some kind of current rating. How else would the engineer select one? color?
  21. When I inquired at the dealer I was told about a week for delivery. MSA could get them to you just as fast, and you could get only the one(s) you need. My dealer had to order the whole set. Your dealer might be different. Your call. I'm looking into the books to see what the ratings were. I think I saw it somewhere, but didn't have time to Xerox. oops- photocopy.
  22. Could you get a copy of the build sheet from Nissan for your Zed? It would tell you what options were on it, like electrical or emmisions, which can help in diagnosing wiring-related problemes, or it could help you figure out what the 'wqhatchamacallit' you saw is. Or it might help if there is any disagreement, like with emmisions.
  23. I has one that looked ok on the outside, but was broken inside, until I pulled on it and it broke apart. Fuse links are a special order item from the dealer, MSA has them individually, and I dunno what to think about the eBay ones.- only get the unused ones, of course. Those thinks are too important to not have complete trust in them.
  24. The power going through the fusible links comes straight from the battery. Because of some wiring redundancy, after you start thye engine, the power from the alternator finds it's way on different wires.
  25. One of those fusible links goes to the dash and interior lights. Forget which one.
