  1. It's because there are so many people that know about him, but have never cared to read, carefully or otherwise, any of the biographical texts, so they don't really "know" him. At least we know the facts.
  2. They got it wrong too. they said he was "Nissan’s first U.S. president" when he was the first President of Nissan U.S.A.
  3. There is a Mustang II club here with about 50 members, and ever one of the cars is superbly restored or customized with the latest stuff. They get a good response everywhere they go.
  4. If i didn't get the 280Z, I would probably have a Mustang II, or an Early European Escort.

I think they found a way to let air circulate and dry it out. Bigger gaps maybe?
  6. Someone on the Jalopnik story page said: But I don't think it'll ever happen. EPA, and safety regulations subdue the design goals anyone could ever have- for a commercial production car. Building a brand-new 240Z might be a nice thought as well as a possibility with today's production tools, but bad drivers and EPA regs spoil it all, unless you just want ONE prototype. Which would be nice, with an aluminum engine, better/lighter suspension and lighter chassis (lighter everything!) Nissan is just too busy making aeroynamic racecars with bumpers and electronic-everything (350Z and 370Z) to bother with a sportscar that is just light, with two seats and goes, and has a heater, and maybe a radio.
  7. It's like saying Jack Nicklaus invented the golf ball! That's what happens when people think you only get real facts via the Internet. The Z is a well-known "Brand?" (from the Jalopnik story.
  8. I suppose there will be yet another book about him? If you didn't already get it, Art Singer sent an email to everyone subscribing to ZCCM, that there will be a major article about him coming, and that if you have any stories or encounters to share, please contact him.
  9. I don't think he ever got east of the Mississippi, as far as I know, except for some Skype calls that one of our members, Yoichi Matsumoto, set up for the 2008 ZCON, and a few regional meets. He was a very pleasant man, with a very pleasant sense of humor (very much unlike the stereotype Japanese 'Boss' you see on TV) and I would have liked meeting with him for tea.

This person has uploaded a video that states Mr. K was "Nissan's first President in the U.S.A", and that he designed the Z (6:30 in the video.) At 0:35 it says he "took the reigns of a small car company named Datsun" Will you accept that, or prefer that he was the first President of Nissan U.S.A. and tried to sell Datsuns? I posted a comment that he remove the video until he can get correct information, so he resorts to profanity (in a foreign language)to justify the inaccurate claims. I would like to ask everyone to either contact this person or post a comment to the video asking for the necessary corrections.
  11. The 280Z does not use the accordion tubes, but I think the air goes through the upper frame rail as you say. There must be some other way the 280Z funnels air to this channel.

Thanks, Chuck. The 280Z never had these, or I would have bought a set years ago. They are only advertised for the 240Z, but I see no harm i putting them on the 280Z.
  13. On the 280Z, there are those vents below the dash in the corner by the door. Where does the air come from, that you will feel blowing on your foot? I've looked at the chassis with the fender off, but I don't see any channels going back to the area of the vent. If you pushed a snake through there, should it come out somewhere?
  14. I think that if Spring comes early this year, then I will measure the opening on my hatch and see how it compares to the liftgate on a Sportage in the JY. Oops there aren't any Sportages there today, but maybe there will be by Spring; thank you Ohio winter! there are usually many new vehicles in the spring

Vintage Rubber has something called "Hatch Hinge Seals" http://www.vintagerubber.com/Datsun240ZHatchHingeSeal.aspx and are $125 for the pair. Does anyone know what they are for? What is the benefit of using them today? They are for the 240Z, but I'm interested in knowing if they would also fit the 280Z. I would say that if you take care to paint and fit the hinges, then you wouldn't need to cover them.

I think if that angled panel corner were some kind of restoration mistake, damage (a broken corner) or manufacturing error then the plastic panel would otherwise be square and fill into the corner very closely. I suppose most people would fill them in thinking it was some kind of fitment mistake. Yours looks good. I've seen some of those drains in better shape, as in new-looking paint, but I never thought to get a photo. The next time I see a good one, I'll get a photo. I don't think most people know what that channel and hole are for.

That's what i mean. In the corner, there is a small notch in the tail lamp housing, and the water runs off the lip. Mine has been "repaired" with some kind of filler, so the water was pooling there.

It is if you think $80 is inexpensive. The dovetails are just as inexpensive. I think I know how to dissemble the stopper. If you take the lower spring plastic holder out, you can slide the stopper down to where the 'ears' will go out the slots in the back. See the photo.

The photo in post #6 is the area I'm referring to. mine seems to be filled in with body filler and the channel for the water is gone. A photo of the area from an excellent condition, unrestored car would be nice

Does anyone have some good photos of the drains for the 280Z hatch deck, with the tail lamps removed? They are in the outer corners of the flat panel across the tailgate. Rainwater drains through a small sort of trough (AFAICT) in the corners behind the tail lamps in a similar way as the front vent plenum. Mine have some rust or the PO tried to 'correct' things. I'd like to correct it the right way. Maybe there's even an improved way to let the water drain?

Has anyone restored a rusted hatch down-stopper? It's the part on the side with the spring-loaded wedge-shaped plastic part. I can probably clean/polish the metal and give it a plating of shiny tin-chrome, but you have to get the plastic part and spring out first. I suppose you could bend the two sides apart to get the plastic out, and the spring would come out with it, but you''ll never get the metal back to what it was originally. Is there a better way?
  22. This is the part number for the Sportage Lift Gate weatherstrip. 0K2B162761A They do have a photo which shows the cross section of the part, and it looks like the KIA stuff:
  23. This is the part number for the Lift Gate weatherstrip. Unfortunately there is no picture to verify it. 0K2B162761A
  24. My two uncles were in Vermont skiing for the first two snowstorms. They loved the extra snow.
  25. It's almost like the ice hotel they have in Sweden every winter.
