  1. When I started driving, we had vinyl-covered seats and if you didn't have the seat belt on, you'd end up on the floor! I also learned to fly planes too. So now I use the seat belt not just for safety, but for better control, which is safety-related too.
  2. Will we see TWO cars there next year?
  3. How do you build an electric or hybrid car for $3000?
  4. That looks cool. Where do you get those? How did you wire it? Do you leave the wiring hanging, or does it hide away when you don't want top use the brake lamp.
  5. The 60- LED blue string might be nice to light up the engine bay when you open the bonnet.
  6. I didn't see Mr.K in there.
  7. Why not stage your own concours for Z cars or otable Japanese cars? You could make a difference. You could even get yourself noticed! YOu could even call it ZCON?
  8. Instead of speculating on why you don't see the Japanese cars at concours events, why not just ask the event promoters or hosts WHY they choose not to include them? That would probably give you the best idea on how to go and make some change. I think the comments about available experts, documentation, etc. and such is probably correct tho.
  9. Does this mean we will have a new parts supply for the S30 again? j/k
  10. Do they have free samples like Flitz does?
  11. I used a little mirror to look behind that deflector. Doesn't everyone have a micro- camera on a flexible stalk nowadays?
  12. I think this is where you'd want to get in touch with the "society of retired stamping engineers?"
  13. It even had headers. Maybe they should've kept the original engine and just painted the car?
  14. There was another thread on the same idea, where someone used a 1 1/2 dia corrugated drain hose instead of the PVC elbow, and another where the person used an elbow of radiator hose to replace the missing rubber one.
  15. Believe it or not, there are old, retired felows that would probably give this idea a shot. Besides making the die, it isn't that difficult to stamp out a bunch of key blanks and putting the channels in. Or a young chap that needs the experience before going out to look for a full-time job doing something similar. BTDT.
  16. Would you expect to see the 15-foot wheels on that, or the 25-foot wheels?
  17. I still have the original key for my DD even after 15 years of ownership, and it's in perfectly-new condition. That's because I've never used it, except to make a copy. I can't say that for the Z key tho, although when I got the car, I had a locksmith make a key from the keycode sticker. I'm just wondering... If someone did make exact duplicates (if you're allowed) of the key blanks as were discussing here, would there be a market for them?
  18. Would it be possibleto direct the effluent through the firewall instead of the side?
  19. The air 'tunnel' is where the fender meets the top of the inner fender (at least on my '78.) It has a rectangular cross-section and you can see it if you take out the inner fender/splash guard. On my '78, they don't have the elbow because air is 'scooped' from below by the lower-front edge of the splash guard (it hangs down a little to 'scoop' air.) I was considering closing this up to keep water from splashing behind the headlamps and adding the plastic elbows.
  20. If you really wanted to go overboard with this idea, find a place that can do laser engraving and give them the graphics they need and some blanks to do the logo and have them do up about 1000 or so units.
  21. If you really want to look into expensive upgrades, try the Hawk performance or racing pads for your calipers. The performance pads are about $100 and the racing pads are DOUBLE. On top of that, most people are also upgrading the brake master cylinder, which adds another $50 or so. I agree with what Leon said that some people say it's "better" but some empirical results would help, say, braking distances from 60 MPH. Can you really say you have "Better braking" unless you've actually mashed the brakes hard on a few times on the highway or even on city streets? Real testing or comparison isn't done on a casual tour of a scenic road while listening to the radio. Plus, your tires, and the road itself, also affect the way your braking results.
  22. When I bought mine (new, from Federated Auto Parts) they were for a 1979 Toyota Pickup 4x4. They went on without a problem, besides adjusting the backplate. The stock rotor was used, and so far I haven't noticed if I should upgrade the master cylinder.
  23. IMO, the biggest problem you would have is those cheap hoses. They dry out and crack easily, and you get a vacuum leak. I had an a/c guy "replace" the leaking tube (to the fresh air door) but all he did was cut off the cracked bit from the end and put it on and say the tube was 'fixed.' It started leaking a while later, and now it's driving me nuts when I need some heat or windscreen defrosting. What would be the proper tubing to re-do the vacuum lines? Some thick-walled silicone stuff maybe? What about the roller thing that engages the detents on the selector when you move it? Mine was missing since I got the car. Is it actually a roller or a ball or what? I assume it's spring-loaded? thxZ
  24. I think that while the engine is out, I'll grab the speedometer and get the face off and see if I can brighten the odometer wheels. The wheels are kinda dirty and it's hard to read the numbers even during the daytime. The speedometer ring number could probably use a little brightening too. Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering if there are any kinds of cleaners that would help, or if there are any cleaners or solvents I should avoid using. I promise to leave the odometer wheels at the current values! :tapemouth it's already at 23,000 anyway :pirate:
  25. When mine was stuck, I just took the screws out of the bottom hinge.
