  1. I've mentioned to a few S30 (240Z) owners I've seen that those things were "supposed to have been removed on delivery," and I was 'informed' that they were indeed normal parts for the car, along with the missing lower grille! Did you know 240Zs didn't have a lower grille? Nor the 280Z? IIRC, there was a lot of 'rope towing' done back then, so IMO, they left the hooks/eyes on probably because people were complaining about not having the convenience of a tow hook, and had to buy one (back) from the dealer after it was removed. So instead they started leaving them on, and people thought it was normal since lots of other cars & trucks had them. My dad's '68 pickup had them (we towed out of the construction area mud occasionally.)
  2. thanks. that what I thought too.
  3. As of Jan 1st, 2012, what is the latest permissible helmet allowed for SCCA autocross? You're allowed to go back 2 'generations' so I think it's 2000? Does anyone know when Snell will come out with the next set of helmet standards? It seems about every 5 years...
  4. Welcome to the website. Remember to spend a LOT of time just browsing around and reading things, because most of your questions will get answered that way. If you can, print the stuff that interests you (I use a notes database called "JotNotes") and get yourself a copy of the FSM (Factory Service Manual), the correct wiring diagram, and Wick Humble's book on 240Z, as you'll need to refer to them often or eventually. We like to see good grammar, spelling and punctuation, which you seem to be capable of, so that's good. Don't be afraid to collect photos of things. You get ample storage for photos & files here.
  5. When I got my 280Z, the old-man neighbor (an "expert"on all things cars) knocked on the fender and immediately told me "You have at LEAST 1/2 inch of Bondo on here!" Wrong. There was a good layer of undercoating on the underside of the metal, but there was no Bondo. FYI, in case there is undercoating and it makes you think the metal is thicker.
  6. Please keep me in your thoughts too
  7. Yes, there are smog laws, but no smog ether. Ohio has beautifully clean air, unless you live downwind to a cow-barn or pig-barn.
  8. I noticed on the TV show they said it was all happening at 3 am or so. By doing it to early in the morning, you have less people and traffic, but the street is still dangerous, compared to a real drag strip. I doubt you could make it safe, with all the people and lamp posts, the curb, cars going wild, etc.
  9. My EFI is working just fine. The engine isn't so happy when I try to start it in 30-degree air tho.
  10. I thought the 78 Speedo has a thing on the back that affects the emmissions? I think it connects to the BCDD?
  11. I saw that show too. In the one race, he gave a Monte Carlo a 10-car lead, and won? Did you notice the cops said they were following a group of 200 (!) street racers? How do they manage to stay 'under the radar?' That show actually gives some credence to what you see on those F&F movies. They actually do the street racing stuff! (But without the flames coming out of the exhaust pipes.
  12. Scion FR-S\Subaru BRZ. it's the truest 240 successor in a long time.I don't think so. both just as "fat" as the 350Z.
  13. That's odd. Nissan did the GT Academy a bout a year ago, and the winner got a job driving for the Nissan GT race team! I supposed they couldn't predict their own future.I too sometimes think of what a 2012 "skinny" Z would look like, with all the emissions and safety requirements you have to heap on it. Do you think a car without a/c, turbocharging, "premium audio," power windows & seats, or subwoofers would sell?
  14. There is a video recorder application you can get that will record until just after it detects a high-G shock, assuming it was a collision of some kind. Otherwise, that's one way to eliminate one iPhone from circulation.
  15. From what I see on the streets, it seems that an iPhone is the answer to most things lately.
  16. You don't have a speedometer application on your iPhone??
  17. Just in case you're wondering where the module is located and why it has that shape, it's inside the distrubutor. Since the module is attached to the distributors base plate, it makes you wonder why we're making a big thing about heatsinks? A simple sheet metal base on the fender by the coil should give the module enough cooling air. IMO, protecting it from water would be more important.
  18. I got an entire engine wiring harness from a place called Vines Auto in AL. They recycle BMWs there. For about $30, I got enough connectors to do two engines. www.vinesauto.com
  19. If you can get the same module in a different, smaller package, please let us know!
  20. In that case, you gotta get some photos and start a collection here. Cha-CHING....
  21. What cost? Maybe that I just happen to have something in the scrap metal box, and a supply of rubber molding stuff from a ceramics project? The module needs to have a good heatsink. I might even have a big finned one like Sarah's. Too much labor? Just about any Z is better than watching the garbage on TV in the evenings, even paying bills. Remeber that it's THE classic sportscar, not just something ordinary from Detroit.
  22. It sounds like a reason to machine an alloy base block, and get out the rubber molding supplies to fashion a cover- with a Z-logo of course! Have you guys seen the Rock Auto TV commercials? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xeiyZWGgoQ4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  23. Can you get some connectors for it too? Crimping on connectors will work, but something that looks like OE would be nice if the module is in view. At Advance Auto: 1977 Chevrolet Camaro4.1L 250CI L6 Carb BWD Ignition Control Module Part No. CBE4Z $24.69
  24. I asked for a for your recommendation for a (favorite module) because if you go to the auto parts store, the guy behind the computer screen doesn't know what you mean by "GM HEI Module." They want a make, model & year, or they can't help you. I think ask for one for an 80s V6 car? BTW- the 78 Buick Regal has a V6, and uses the module needed. I do remember the tech-heads back in the 80s complaining about the module on the top of the distributor cap going bad because of heat. Anyway, I drew up the wiring per Zed Head:
