  1. I took my one new lock to get keyed last summer as the locksmith said it would be no problem, but it turned out that it was a 240Z lock, not a 280Z lock (new oem 280Z locks are NLA from the dealer or car lock companies.) He wasn't even able to use the same pattern of notches in the 240Z key. So now I have three different keys for my car, but I can find them with my eyes closed, so I'm OK.
  2. My locksmith had new face-caps because they go bad sometimes, and the little door/spring breaks or falls out.
  3. How did you get the screws out of the bottom? It looks like a phillips head using a smaller bit than usual.
  4. Did you need to use the resister gadget for the turn signal bulbs? I have read that some of the flashers didn't flash because the LEDs changed the resistance of the circuit.
  5. Shoe Goo, maybe? GOOP won't stick them together. I'd start with weatherstrip adhesive and go from there. A body shop might know what to use. I was going to try cutting a plug from an old bumper end, but it disappeared already.
  6. The stuff in #17 won't glue your cut-up bumper ends. Its used to repair scratches & fill gouges in the bumper covers on newer cars. I'll bet 3M has something that will glue the cracked or cut bumper end parts. The round plugs are the ones that cover the screws on the side where it attaches to the sail panel.
  7. How would you glue that? BTW- can you get those little round plugs?
  8. hybridz.org is fine. Just the chatroom isn't working.
  9. The the colour gallery at Zhome. They have little 'color chips' you can click on that show you a picture of a real car in that color. http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/ Good luck finding paint at a supplier in your color. They will just tell you "we can math any color." Because no one has the color codes from Datsun any more, you'll have to settle for something that is "close" instead of just mixing it to the Satsun colour formula.
  10. The 260Z has a bumper that's skinnier than the 280Z and the ends are curved as if they wrapped around the corner.
  11. Have you looked at the 260Z? They are indeed a rare model as they were only made for one year and the 240Z was made for three (or four) It is in between the 240Z and 280 in weight and you could probably do whatever you want with the engine(carbs or E.F.I.)
  12. You're "supposed" to get three bolts to thread into the holes, and use a wheel puller to pull it off or us ea pulley puller if you can get the finger behind the hub, but some people will just tap on the center shaft while pulling on the hub. You might even put the wheel back on and jerk it all off. It's a kind of an art, but be careful with tapping so you don't damage the threads. You could google it for a video or text response.
  13. I was able to restore my antenna using parts (a new plastic cable & mast) from an oem unit I got from eBay. The motor still wouldn't go after assembling because the brushes were worn or fell out, so I made new brushes using ones from a Ford alternator (I got brushes from NAPA.)
  14. I heard that paint/body shops have a little gizmo that can measure the thickness of the paint. It probably includes the substrate under the top/color layer. You might just take the car to a friendly body shop or two and get some opinions?
  15. Yeah. With enough interest or a group buy, maybe they would make one to the proper dimensions.
  16. I had a funny connector for a while after I got the car, which was cleaned and things worked well. Then the switch itself got a little quirky, so sometimes only one side will work, but usually both sides do. Old cars can be that way.
  17. I"ll just use urethane and/or rubber bushings... http://www.differencebetween.net/object/difference-between-urethane-and-polyurethane/
  18. Before the last time I was at an SCCA autocross event, I looked up the class my stock 280Z would go into, class D IIRC, but at the event, the registration guy had me go into class E, which was fine, since I was the only one in that class on that day
  19. You should contact Energy Suspensions about this. They have a live chat thing with the tech guy, and he seems friendly. With my kit, I got two bushings for the transmission crossmember, which are cylindrical like the control arm bushings.
  20. Hi Dave, I already have the Energy Suspension urethane "Master Kit" of bushings for the 280Z. It has most everything but the strut insulators, the (strut bearings for the front struts) and front diff mount. Both front & rear suspensions will also be getting new coil springs & dampers. I plan on using all the urethane bushings in the kit for the rear suspension, and all but the T/C rod bushings for the front suspension. I'll get rubber bushings for the T/C rod later. I don't know if there is a stock-style urethane unit for the diff, and a stock rubber type is on back-order at most places I tried, so I will have to us the original one (maybe it's not that bad off) until I can get a new one, and install it next Spring, but I thought I could get it now while the whole rear end is out.
  21. My car is getting a new set of bushings (Springs & dampers too)- Rear suspension first, then the front. When I get to the front suspension, I might even get the engine out to refresh that too. I have everything I think I will need but the strut insulators and the diff mounts. I have the mustache bar bushings. The strut insulators are back-ordered and 'might' be in stock in a few months, but I think I can get the diff mount (stock style, but urethane is OK) very soon. The question I have right now is can I hold off until Spring and do just that one then. The "good" news is that I tried the screws holding the hard lines under the car, and from all the undercoating there, the screws turned easily and so weren't rusted in solid thxZ
  22. I'm surprised no one thought of this for this year's anniversary. 40 years - 40 states? It sure would be a lot easier to do the Z rally in each state in stead of the entire lower 48. You'd be getting 40 clubs involved, too, in stead of just 3, which seems more do-able.
  23. I was browsing around Amazon for some book for Christmas, and I typed in Datsun 280Z, and it found a song by that name from Heloise & the Savior Faire. It's not a bad song, but not from the classic rock style either. thxZ
  24. I just called Eibach, and they pretty much confirmed that they don't have anything to offer for Datsuns. In fact (per their representative) their Nissan offerengs only go back to 2007. I was asked to contact "Motorsport Industries" to order the springs. They only have the progressive lowering springs- no Pro Kit springs. Is there anything else that would suffice? I 'd like to order some asap, but not from MSA, unless it's on sale. thxZ
