  1. That's a good reason. I've never had that problem with my car. Why not try a solar charger? The reason I asked is that local race courses are using the transponders for timing laps, because timing yourself can be dangerous when you take your eyes off traffic and go looking for the clock & buttons, take one hand from the wheel to press a button, etc. A famous American talk show host once said, " The only people that use digital clocks are scientists and terrorists." :surprised
  2. I just like the classic coupes: Mustang Mach 1, Jaguar D-types, Ferrari 250s (all models), most all ferraris. I guess just not any one car.
  3. The last time I went autoX with my 280Z, I was in E stock (ES) class. I'm not sure it's the same class as road racing tho.
  4. Remember the Gumball 3000? Well, they have a DVD out on it:Gumball 3000 DVD
  5. Has anybody seen the A&E Z- video lately? I might put it on my Xmas wishlist this year.
  6. What would you use the timer for? Most of the race tracks i've been to are using the transponders now.
  7. Is that where the high pressure air can be found? With the bumper partially blocking the front, how much pressure (absolute or relative) do you think you can find? Otherwise, anything we can dream up here is no better than the stock airbox, located in front of the radiator support and drawing air from the underside of the hood. I read something about how to locate the higherpressure areas on autospeeed.com, using a DIY pressure switch setup (http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2081/article.html)If the latter is true, you'd be better off cutting the hood to install an NACA-style air scoop near the forward lip, and sealing it to a similar hole in the stock airbox. The alternative would be to measure the air pressure in different areas around and in front of the radiator ( anywhere else?) to find the best place for an intake- probably where the stock airbox was. And possibly adding a little more pressure with either an air dam, spook spoiler, et al, (best idea IMO, but modifies the look of the nose), or an air scoop/funnel of some kind under the hood behind the bumper (block air to the radiator) to increase air pressure. You'd have to put together a pressure measuring device, and measure the air pressure in areas in front of the radiator while the car is moving. I don't know of any device like that; like something that plugs into a VOM, so you can take reading while driving.
  8. Sorry, I couldn't see any support bracket.
  9. Got a pictured of that? It sounds like the stuff I have (elbow & filter). Don't forget to make a bracket to support the filter. I would have to take off the air box, rubber intake hose, and then put the elbow onto the hose, then reconnect the hose to the airflow meter. Because the hose isn't long enough for convenience. thx
  10. I think the diaper gas is getting to you. stop feeding your kid those spicy Enchiladas!
  11. A bolt won't make it, because it's most likely got a metric pipe thread. Maybe something like a 1/4" or 3/8" NPT plug? See if you can get a diameter on the hole, then go to the plumbing section at DIY ot hardware store.
  12. Those of use with 260s or 280s could also benefit by checking out the design of the thing. Maybe somebody can adapt the design to the 260s and 280s... I'd be very happy to see a write-up of the thing. I know the manufacturere of the 280Z headlight harness plugs (with the round pins), but not the part #, because of how old it is. Maybe something will turn up.
  13. That is definitely poor man's. The hose cost about, what- 89 cents? really. So if you get the hose in the right shape, you could just copy it in rigid metal, like aluminum or whatever.
  14. At least you got the smooth hose in there. How strong are the dryer hoses? Can you get it in 3inch, or is that what the short rubber is for (adapter)? I wonder how jiggly the dryer hose will be. Would it need some kind of support?
  15. then get an aluminum or stainless liner. Or maybe plastic even.
  16. You're going to a Toyauto guy for technical help on your DATSUN!????
  17. That's just the magnet part, although I've never seen any. Probably just small sheets- a sign store must have the bigger stuff. How about posting some of your favorite logos?
  18. The inside of the intake tube isn't axactly smooth. Smooth is supposed to be better for airflow. Do you think you could line the rubber bellows tube with something like one of those metal heater tubes, but 3" diameter?
  19. I was asking about those little ricer magnets with KUMHO and whatever on it? Where do you get yours? Or your favorite ricer graphics? If I wanted my number, I'd get a big white magnetic disk with my number on it in vinyl, like on older cars.
  20. Right. JB weld won't handle the temperatures that close to the exhaust ports. Is that little pipe segment connected to the exhaust manifold on the aft end? If it is, then it's the EGR tube. They break from heat & vibration. At least mine did.
  21. Where do you guys get your racing magnets for your car? Do you think we could post our favorite logos & graphics, and people could print them or make their own magnets? thx
  22. You should look into one of those carbon or fiberglass hatch replacements. Saves weight.
  23. It's a restoration. http://www.classicmotorsports.net/news.php?cat=14
  24. Paypal has an email address that you can forward stuff like this to. Just forwarding it ti Paypal.com won't work. It'll bounce off. Anybody got the fraud alert email address?
  25. The Nissan tech guy helped get the engine running well. I guess he really does have "30 years" experience with Z cars. A niice compliment for my '97 Escort tho. 71k miles on that baby. Only thing I did on that is some new air filters, occasional oil change, and a set of spark plug wires. The tech guy mentioned that there are some 'newer' cars out there with bad emmisions; probably high mileage cars that aren't maintained. I still give my tailpipe an enema (cleaning) before a car show tho. It still gets sooty.
