  1. The easiest thing you might do is to see if you can swap the center part of the steering wheel with a (new) one? Otherwise, I'd say you need to haver a machinist make you a(steel?) insert with splines on it and then cut it into the steering wheel. I have a removeable wheel using a Grant adapter, and you can bolt on a new hub if you ever need to. It would still be important to see why it wore away in the first place, so you don't have the same problem again.
  2. I found a vacuum hose marked "W" on the end. Is that supposed to go to the water valve? If it does, where is the vacuum tap for the water valve supposed to be? Right now, I think my heater is stuck on v'vent' so I think another vacuum hose fell off the control valve thingy. thx
  3. You might get lucky and have -one- guy at the dealer who's been working on Zs since they came out- probably the older guy with the long hair & tye-dye T-shirt...
  4. Wouldn'tyou get tired of seeingthe same cars through the entire trip? I mean, it would be nice to drive with some cars for part way, then some other ones for another part. You might try a little 'competition."
  5. Where would you like to drive in your Zed? Personally, I was thinking of something like: Drive around the perimiter of Ohio (Targa Ohio!) then: US-1 down the east coat to Miami Rte-66 to L.A. Pacific coast Highway to Seattle across to Montana where my bro lives Through Chicago back to Ohio Correct me id my old map needs updating
  6. You'd think the factory/dealer mechanics would be up on service bulletions & recalls. FAA mechanics definitely are.
  7. There a 73 240Z, a 75 260z and a few 280Zs http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca/results/results03/r_main.asp
  8. "Seller is to deliver payment in full within 5 days of the final sale in the form of A cashiers check or certified funds." !!!!!!!!!! BUY it now!!
  9. Thanks Steven Mine is just so unsightly with the wiring hanging out, and the relays exposed, etc. I thought there might be a panel to put in there to cover up the mess.
  10. I was looking at the fusebox on my 280Z and it looks kind of messy down there, so I was wondering if there is supposed to be a panel of sorts to cover the area? Can Somebody post a pic of a neat/original fusebox area, so I know what it should look like? thx
  11. the F.I. system on my 280Z works great. The only (parts) that I think could be repaired or refurbished would be the AFM and the wiring ( 2 most used parts). It still needs some tuning/adjustment. seems to be a lack of power at all speeds- probably from a rich mix.
  12. How much is the air flap supposed to open, when you move the cable? Do you get much air through that vent? I remember the with older vans ( like Ford Econoline) you get a LOT of air coming through when you open the door to the footwell vent. thx
  13. It's not that easy. I pull mine (280Z) to open the vents, and I can't tell if there's any air coming out. I think I will try to fit a hose to the vent outlet. Maybe hook up the hose to the side vents then.
  14. My 280Z only has 108k miles. I should be Ok for a while...
  15. What keeps the tensioner from failing? To me, that's the biggest thing to worry about. thx
  16. Is the lens supposed to be white, or clear? thx
  17. My regular antenna mast keeps slipping down. Is there a way to tighten it up? thx

    Lost Keys

My 280Z had the key code on the inside of the glove compartment lid. If youy get your code, write it down & keep it somewhere safe.
  19. Uh Oh.... It looks like another "what's a stock car?" discussion. Nick- it's nice to see your wife was with you. I wonder how many couples were there?
  20. Do you have a point to say, Frank? Stevens point says it all. they didn't start using the 17-digit VINs until the 80s.
  21. I don't think you'll get anything from Carfax. they only go back to about 1984- I tried to get one for my 78 180Z and couldn't.
  22. How do you know you need to replace the ball joints? thx
  23. I was wondering if the bumper height on the '78 280Z is consistant for all the cars? My front seems to be higher, or the back springs are sagging, but I can't tell without taking the struts out (too costly). thx.
  24. The power goes direct from the fuse panel (one fuse per light) to the headlights. Then the headlight switch completes the circuit to ground, not the power to the lights. Try to get yourself a wiring diagram. Wipers.... It sounds like the control relay( amplifier) isn't working right, but might be something else. You might try patching a wire direct to the motor to check the motor.
