  1. Yeah, all the Z-history related TV shows, books, and videos I've seen relate to how the S30 design has majorinfluences from Ferrari 250 and 300/330 fastbacks, and the jaguar E-type. Even Matsuo-san mentioned it in his video interview.
  2. they better get to the optometrist as soon as possible, or at least stop driving, if their sight is THAT bad.
  3. We'll make those license plate frames read "My car is the other Porsche" It beats me WHY people would be so adamant about the S30 being a Porsche. Is there a Porsche model that would make people think that? I like to kid people and say it's a Ferrari (the Japanese export model) and people will smile and say, "Oh yeah, sure."
  4. he Bloopers one is pretty funny too.
  5. Better yet, an LCD screen with all those names on it.
  6. Did Road & Track make any visual stuff, like a test drive, of the S30 Z?
  7. I'm collecting them for a visual display at car shows, instead of magazines (which seem to disappear.) I'd like to avoid the 280ZX ones, because people are saying a lot, "nice ZX" which is..... wrong. Too bad there aren't any more good commercials/videos about the 240Z,or any S30 model; and the 280Z/UFO one has awful sound. Or are there? Maybe even some amateur ones?

    ANSA Tips

Stevie- I considered something like your idea. It was to get two glasspack mufflers and using a bandsaw, cutting a slice off the side of each and then welding them back together. the slices would have to be thick enough so when you put it back together, the outlets are at the desired spacing (about half the spacing, I'd say.) then you can extend the outlets with a plain tube or a fancy chromed tip. the fun part would be joining the inlets so you can fit it to your exhaust system. You could add some baffles, or rather, some half-baffles, so add to the muffling capacity. If you are going to just use tubes, I noticed that the Ansa type tips have rings welded inside. Silencers for guns use that kind of design. You'd have to figure out the dimensions for the rings to provideo sound muffling and yet minimize the back-pressure. Do you think you could use two motorcycle silencers? All you'd need is a Y-tube and a few small straps. A couple quick graphics of the two'siamesed glasspacks' idea, the heavy line is about where the cut is.
  9. From the radio installations that I've done, they all had a 1A fuse on the memory wire, so it probably needs far less than 1amp. Unless your radio harness connector has a live wire on it, the hazard switch or clock, or cigarette light sounds like an acceptable place to tap for the memory power line.
  10. UR2H- As Classic83Owner mentioned, it really helps to start off with mentioning your specific year &model; otherwise the comments you'll get are probably for a 240Z/S30 I wanted to run a new line from the battery for the radio, but there were already a couple added, so I replaced the whole (accessory feed system) with 1 wire to an insulated stud located in a inconspicuous place by the battery, and the accessory lines go from that. Also, the firewall grommet is probably stuffed tight with wires, so forcing yet another heavy line through is not a good idea, unless you plan to cut another hole for a second feed-through grommet. After all the wires are in place, you can wrap or cover the exposed wires to look like it all belonged there. Don't forget to make a drawing or notes in your vehicle's logbook, so you will later know what wires are which and go to what.
  11. Are there No Pizza or Beer ads available?
  12. Is there something you could suggest, say for every user here to visit one of the ads a day or ever few days or each week? It supports this website, but without having to pull out our wallets.
  13. Never mind the brake upgrades, stock parts are just as expensive!
  14. And people say driving while high or stoned doesn't affect you in a significant way, like alcohol does. The AAA and NTSA people disagree, and I've seen similar stuff to what gnosez experienced.I bet those girls will think twice about toking up in a car again.
  15. In that case, my car has matching numbers, since the chassis number is the same in all the different locations.
  16. Is there a point in the production history where you safely say that the engine numbers definitely no longer match the chassis number? I remember one or two 280Z owners in past years that claimed to have a "matching numbers" car, but I thought it was only a 240-Z thing (or perhaps some 260Zs had that too.) Otherwise it seems to be a hit-or-miss thing, which does seem somewhat special.
  17. One of the rules of good driving is just to not drive next to another vehicle for too long, unless you're sure the other driver knows you're there. Fortunately, with a Z, you are able to pass another vehicle without much effort. Why not just mount an air horn where the passenger side-mirror is, pointed at the other car?
  18. Since it is possible, and even acceptable, that Engine Serial Number can be different from the Chassis serial number, was there any re-ordering of the engine numbers? For example, my chassis number is 434056, but the Engine Number is 280438,and I believe that the engine is the original one, so I get the idea that they re-started the engine numbering with the new L28 design, because it is significantly different from the earlier carburetted engines. It's hard to justify that a difference of about 154,000 between the Chassis and Engine numbers, even with the knowledge that Datsun's record-keeping was not to good.
  19. I collected the whole thing a made a DVD, and I watched it at a friends house with a "few" beers (it's 3 hours total) but it was a well-made, comprehensive program. At the end of the last part, it says something like, "stay tuned for part 2..." or something like that, so I tried to find some more. But it ends at about the 1980 mark, so there couldn't be anything more, though it would be nice to see what they would say about the more recent cars.
  20. I thought it was interesting that the Z was in that film. I thought it as ironic at first, but it might be to show that even with a sporty car, you can drive in a way that saves some gas. Maybe it was even a subliminal plug to sell the 260Z?
  21. I let mine idle, in the winter, but only long enough to scrape the ice off the window and defrost things. In the summer, I let it idle for about a half minute, until the engine settles down from starting, then I drive very casual for a mile or so, until the temperature gauge needle starts moving. Boy, do people get mad! They gotta get to work or the kids to school NOW, and here's this old "1990s econobox" holding them back (on a road where the speed limit is 25MPH.) Stopping for stop signs is apparently optional before 11am too, I think. But otherwise, I usually drive about 2MPH under the speed limit (people hate that too!) and the speed wackos go zooming by, so I usually get the road or highway to myself, until the next pack of zoomers catches you. A light touch on the pedal (or sssslllooooowww acceleration) does save a measurable amount of gas (I have the logs to prove it) but people who drive new cars, performance cars, 4x4 trucks, SUVs, minivans, Hondas, BMWs, or just about any other kind of vehicle get mad about it (one guy yelled at me in the Z even- "Can't you go any faster!?") I wonder what they'd say about modern cars with fuel-injected engines.
  22. I found a source of the M6 screws that are like the ones you find all over the S30: Steel Class 8.8 Zinc JIS B 1187 - metric-threaded.com They range from 10 to 30mm in length. I think you need some of the yellow ones for some engine parts: Metric JIS Phillips Indented Hex Head SEMS Screws Would these work, or should we Keep looking? What's the 'SEMS' mean?
  23. You can get those at just about any AP store for pennies.....
