OK, It's been discussed to death but I am having an issue with my tach after the 280zx electronic dizzy conversion on my 72 240z with an auto. I think all is hooked up properly but here we go..... the green wire that was hooked to the ballast risistor is hooked up to the + on the coil. So are both of the b/w wires and the one wire going to the "B" on the module. The - on the coil is hooked up to the "C" on the module. The tach does nothing and was working before. I have read a couple post here and on other boards that say that you need to hook the b/w that is hooked to the coil and that when removed makes the car die to the green. then do these just stay not connected to the coil +? I read somewhere else that said they hooked the tach to the coil -.....this doesn't seem right. Any sugestion? Oh, the car had dual points factory if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Hi All! With help from a couple members here I got the 280ZX dizzy swap done on my son's 72 240z (auto). It fires right up now with little or no choke from the Webers. I live outside of Denver at about 5500 feet above sea level. What should I try as far as the timing goes? I know there are too many variables to tell me exact but a ballpark? It's running now and seems to be ok but just a little sluggish from idle and there were a couple backfires through the carbs. Thanks in advance for your help! Thanks, Mike

I got one of the MSA 280zx mounts. the dizzy has the same orientation as yours does Zs. I'll have to check it out again when I get home and go through the Ignition trouble shooting from the fsm http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18660 that someone kindly posted a while back. I just don't get it unless the module is bad. I have done this before but on american steel.....shouldn't be that different. I think that module is bad....or the harness is bad..but it was working before at least

This shows how to test the ignition system and comes from the FSM http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18660

The rotor is pointing in the correct orientation. just the distributor housing is 180 turned. I beleive that the shaft is keyed and it can only seat in one orientation. Another factor is that I had a dual point dizzy in there before. It appears that both wires to the stock dizzy go to the same place.(there is continuity) So there is only one of those original wires used.

I am installing the 280zx dizzy and e12-80 module in my son's car. I don;t know if I have something way off or what but I am getting no spark at all. Just a couple questions......Maybe I did something wrong. The 280zx dizzy is mounted 180 degrees off of what the 72 240z dizzy was....Is that correct? The B goes to the + ignition source and the C goes to the - on the coil. Is there any way to bench test the e12-80 module? Any help would be great! Thanks, Mike guzinski@comcast.net

Hmmm? The rotor points the same way but the distributor is spun 180 the vac is pointing to the front of the car. The coolant return hose is in the way if the vac unless you rotate it. Any tricks or tips would be helpful. I found a guide for testing the e12-80 module....that is helpful...Thanks Again!
