Won't turn over, fuel?
haha it is a bit expensive, but the fun fully makes up for that. You'll learn a lot by digging in head first, then crawling here when you're pulling your hair out. It's a lot of fun. (seriously it is) Blake's definitely the guy to listen to around here. Just from reading his posts i've learned a lot that has helped me work on my car.

Won't turn over, fuel?
I believe that it's a Fram G3 filter that fits the hoses (i have one on my car, helps out a lot since i can't drop my tank yet) it goes BETWEEN the gas tank and fuel pump, so it is under negative pressure. It doesn't need to be for an EFI system because of that. (article on it that i found) http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/g3filter/index.htm and from the looks of it, you need a new filter. It almost looks like it's leaking where the white and clear plastics meet.

Won't turn over, fuel?
I didn't think there would be pressure between the tank and the pump though.

Won't turn over, fuel?
the other way is to hook a 9v battery to the cold start valve iirc. and that filter looks nasty. that one comes BEFORE your pump right? if that's the case, there shouldn't be any pressure on that side.

Crankshaft Casting Numbers
yeah, they are forged, but they still have the numbers stamped into them so i suppose they can be casting numbers? the human eye can see very small differences in size. Just set the crankshafts next to each other and i'm sure you'll be able to see the difference between them pretty quickly.

back form the mechanic
Six_Shooter, that's my problem. I'm confident enough in my mechanical skills to rebuild my engine (I've helped my dad build many VW engines, and after skimming through my FSM, i think I can rebuild my Z's engine) I just don't have a place for it, or many of the tools for it (lift, stand, various tools to disassemble, etc) In his situation, if that 300 dollar engine is in good running shape (as in, bolt it in, hook it up, and drive away) I'd say get it. doing an actual rebuild does take quite a bit of money to do it properly.

Won't turn over, fuel?
rain won't get inside of an engine. If it did it would be toasted. HOWEVER you may have gotten water on a connection and it's corroded now. have you checked for spark yet? Whenever i check my car for no start issues, I spray starter fluid into the intake. If the car tries to start, it's a fuel issue, if there's no start, it might be a timing/spark issue. Maybe try spraying a bunch of starter fluid into the intake?

Yahoo japans CLEANEST.
Interesting to see the 280z's hood on that ZG . I want my 280z to look like the maroon ZG up higher, but instead of maroon, i want it an equally dark blue. (maybe even darker) but I LOVE the stance the ZG has with that tire/rim combination.

If you build it, they will die.
It'll be interesting to see your build progress. The tires are kinda bothering me right now because of how their streched. those aren't the size you're going to run are they? Because they sort of look like they're going to pop off the bead or something...

Help please... I stripped the head on an Injector screw!
I think the only glue that would work would be a quick set 2 part epoxy. mostly because of how fast it dries, and how hard it dries. but then you have the hassle of trying to separate the screwdriver from the screw.

Help please... I stripped the head on an Injector screw!
if superglue would never work, i've got some 2 part epoxy that would do the trick for sure. But using the right tool is always better

Car not starting...distributor?
Huh. Z oil pumps look weird to me. In old VW's, the oil pump is nothing more than 2 gears that spin to pump oil. dead simple and the only way for them to fail is run the car out of oil .

Help please... I stripped the head on an Injector screw!
taht could work. But if you have the room to get something like a small dremel, maybe try cutting a slot on top (of course, making sure you don't make everything EXPLODE in the process) then you can just use a flat head to get it out. might save some time compared to cutting the head off. My screws on my 78 are only philips. I wish they were 8mm's though.

Help please... I stripped the head on an Injector screw!
ah, that isn't as bad as the injector screws on my car. one of them i had to cut a slot in and use a slotted driver instead of a philips. Maybe try using a bigger screw driver? if that doesn't work, vice grips will. I ordered a new set of those screws for my car to replace the ones that are bad, and the ones that are going bad.

Twin cam of L-series engines?? OS Giken
as far as i know, the only TC24-B1 head i've ever seen, is on the OS Giken's Z. i don't think any other's exist. if they did, you'd probably have to fork over way more than you could imagine for it.

Side View Mirrors?
that's why i said they might XP I still have to take a look and see how they mounted them. Regardless the passenger mirror needs to come off (it's floppy and doesn't hold a position) I need a mirror on the driver's side.
-
Side View Mirrors?
Then that might make mine dealer installed. I looked up the Black pearl. it comes with the "Dual Racing Mirrors" same mirror that's on my car. But i only have the passenger side.

I'm getting the "Itch" LOL
Man...I'm so glad i live in Arizona. Winter is the best time to drive. You don't need the A/C cause it's nice out even though it's so sunny, and at night it's not so cold that you need a heater. just roll up the windows.

280zxt fuel injector upgrade.......
With vw's a lot of people like the delorto's. that's why i like them. My dad could set his up once and race with them all year, only changing the jetting. When he got his webers though, he had quite a bit of trouble getting his car to run as happy as he did with delorto's. I can't remember the exact reason though. I think just because they were a bit funkier to tune. Never messed with mikuni's so i wouldn't know about tuning them. I had two downdraft delorto's i was SUPPOSED to put on my car. my dad sold them >_< my graduation gift was SUPPOSED to be his 1776cc from his karmen ghia along with the tranny, but then he changed his mind. anyways, i won't argue about finding parts for them. They are hard to find parts for. And getting them totally overhauled is even harder. There's one guy in the VW community that apparently does a wicked nice job of cleaning/repairing delorto's. The reason why i say the delorto's are nice is mainly because i'm originally from the vw community. downdraft delorto's are one of the nicest street carb's to use. Weber's are also nice, but they aren't as streetable from what a lot of people say. I'm not sure about on a Z though. I don't really see any triple delorto setups . (sorry, i ramble a lot and end up probably saying a lot of non-sense) From what i've seen/heard i really would like to megasquirt my car once i rebuild the engine. I'll have to buy myself a cheap laptop though. (or haul my computer out of my appartment, along with a huge extension cable to run down teh stairs hah!) I agree though. For the cost/experience, stick with SU's. converting a car to EFI seems like too much work imo.

Side View Mirrors?
Really? hmm, never knew that XP One thing that is a bit funny, is that i bought it pretty close to november. Had i had more money, i would've registered it in november.
-
Side View Mirrors?
oh, i didn't mean it as it could be factory installed. half me thinking it was dealer installed, and half me rambling

280zxt fuel injector upgrade.......
honestly (if it wasn'tfor emissions) i would love to have a set of triple delorto's on my Z. I've had some experience with them and they are nice. Stick with carb's. they aren't as "user friendly" as efi is, but setting up an EFI system imo is nothing but a pain XP (i say this yet i'm going to put a megasquirt system in my car o_O)

Side View Mirrors?
I'll probably know if it was dealer or not when i pull it off to swap it to the other side. I never do use a passenger side mirror. I drove a bug before i got my Z, it only had a drivers side. My bronco II had both, but it was a farily small truck, and those BIG side windows made it easy to look around. I trust my own eyes more than mirrors. doubt this makes it any different, but my Z is a 5/78, and was first registered 11/78 (basically meaning it was never bought till november)
-
Side View Mirrors?
My 78 has both mirrors. though only 1 of them (the passanger side) is still on. It's that black style mirror. I'm gonna take it off and put it on the driver side (from the looks of it they're the same, it doesn't have that weird lens to make it wider)

fuel injection troubles 77 zx
On the 77 the fuel pump is triggered by the AFM flap moving iirc. as for the injectors not firing, have you tried cleaning your Water Temp Sensor connections? if there's a short on those 2 wires, or if the connection is severed, it won't run at all. I can't remember if the 77 does this, but i know on my 78, the Oil Pressure sender controls the fuel pump.
