tool falls inside block coolant passages
That's the one thing that makes me worry about the engine. You can replace all the hoses and change the oil and, but the rust in the coolant passage is like a timer on the engine. Is there any way to absolutely prevent any rust from forming after a clean-up? More importantly, what if I don't have the time or money to take the block apart and clean all that rust out? I bought a radiator flush that goes into the coolant before you change it, but I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to do. I haven't used it yet.

Fuel question
Just replaced a bunch or vacuum hosing over the last two days. All the carbon canister hoses and some EGR hose. The hose was from Kragen Auto (or O'Reilly's now) for 49 cents a foot, great for the price, but that silicone from inmocean's link adds some nice color to the engine bay. That picture is a good reference for hoses that I need to replace, all hi-lighted in red!

How much rust, out of curiosity? And how did you remove it?

Earthquake Alert in CA?
Maybe this is what he was talking about. I remember seeing these a few years ago. Not exactly like the movie, though http://www.futurehorizons.net/hoverboard.htm

Earthquake Alert in CA?
7 times the average. Either way, kinda makes you think about a preparedness kit and a plan of action.

Earthquake Alert in CA?
Probably. They worked for the city, in some "they-would-know" department, but other than the trend that's been shown, I don't see why the next 48 hours would matter, either. Maybe bottled water sales are down and they're trying to boost sales. Now I'm thinking that maybe the alert to the Sheriff's was in case enough people heard the rumor.

Earthquake Alert in CA?
Yeah, I've seen that, I was just wondering why the Sheriff's Department would have been notified. The source that I heard it from was from wasn't unreliable in any way, but that doesn't mean that it was accurate. They just could have been wrong. It wasn't from twitter, either. Just wondering if anyone else had info from higher up than I do.

Earthquake Alert in CA?
Did anyone else hear anything about an "imminent" 9 point something earthquake in SoCal within the next 48 hours? I heard that local police were alterted, and that has been verified, but others are saying that it's a hoax. Just thought it might be worth mentioning for the protection of our families (and Z's). It's supposed to center around San Diego. Like I said, some are saying it's a hoax, but I have confirmed that the LA Sheriff's Department has been put on notice. Apparently, the info came from someone high up there on the info ladder, but I thought I'd check to see what you all had heard.

would a 280zx be a good first car?
Yeah, I'd say no. The thing about a 30+ year old car is that as soon as you fix one thing (and it will cost time and money), something else will break (think of how much 30 year old rubber is on that car). I took mine in horrible running condition to my mechanic and basically wrote a blank check for the repairs, and even then, something is always going wrong with the car. Fortunately, I have it as a second car, so I get to tinker with it and work on it as my small budget allows. If it were my primary car, I would have to have sold it for a working car years ago several times. I do love the car, so I see the money as worth it, but as I said, it is a hobby until it runs well, not a means of transportation. Hope that helps.

Cheap brake master cylinder?
Just replaced mine about a year ago at autozone for around 40 bucks. I have a 78.

Rb26 240z stolen in lakewood ca
I'll let a few friends at work know. I'm an armored transport officer and my company covers pretty much every square mile of LA, OC, and some of San Diego and Ventura and Riverside as well. Hopefully it's out in the open. Good luck. Horrible feeling, huh?

240Z good for tall people?
One of the things I remember reading about the S30 is the amount of headroom it has for tall people in comparison to other similar little sports cars. I'm only 5' 10'', so I can't say for a fact, but like I said, I've seen it mentioned more than once on this forum that it has excellent headroom for a car it's size. Now as far as the "medium build," it's a different story width wise. I have pretty wide shoulders and a size 36" waist, and it feels like a tight cockpit when I'm in the car; snug sideways.

Why are so many of these turning up in Florida
It's a great looking car, but for a car that was supposedly pampered and driven only 118 miles in the last 26 years, why would it need a valve job or a even a new clutch and brake master cylinder or paint? I can't believe that they would do all that work just to sell it.

Winshield viper acting strange
This reminds me of that old animaniacs cartoon where they say "beware the viper!" during the whole cartoon and in the end it's a swedish "vindow viper."

Continue to find the P.O.'s Mistakes
That all doesn't sound so bad so far. Wait until you find the wrong size screw stuffed/stripped into holes in the engine block, sloppy bondo jobs, paint over rust, glue to fill in cracked or torn weather stripping, missing or mismatched parts, or a crappy exhaust job that's going to cost a lot to replace, AND bad timing on top of all that. Count your blessings! How's the rust?

V8 z mod question
They probably have those stats over at Hybridz.org. That's a good spot for mods to the S30. Good luck.
