  1. Yeah, those things were on there pretty tight. On some good advice, I bought a remanufactured cylinder from autozone and put it in yesterday. The brakes are working fine now. Now to change the brake pads.
  2. Reviving and old thread here... I'm rebuilding the BMC on my 78 and I'm having the same problem as Rick, the second piston doesn't want to come out. I removed the bleeder screw, so there shouldn't be anything stopping the piston from coming out. Also, the big screw caps on the bottom don't want to come off either. How much torque can I apply trying to get them off before the cylinder breaks?
  3. Very cool video. It's always great to see a group of Zs together.
  4. I have one in a box about two feet from me, but it has a little (1cm long, I just measured) scratch on the top lip. It came in a box with my 78, and was pulled from a 76 in supposedly working order, that why the previous owner pulled it before he scrapped his 76. It's yours if you want to pay the shipping. I'll weigh it right now to let you know about how much it will cost. Welcome to the club! -Okay, it weighs 1lb, 13.4oz. I'm not sure how to calculate shipping, it usually does it automatically when I sell on Ebay, after I weigh it. Let me know!

A moment of silence for the brave blue Z that gave it's life for another... Welcome! I'm over in Covina. Where are you looking for parts for your Dad's Z?

I would start saving for my own, it might be quicker, then if she gives you hers before you buy one, you could use the money to restore it. Yeah, I would definitely not wait for one to fall into my lap. Come on, it's a Z!
  9. So how is it going over there? Hey, Johnny, how's my old hometown, for that matter? Any good houses for sale?
  10. Kind of a grainy video, especially with the old-fashioned look on it, but very cool anyway. I've got the same sunroof t-top, it actually looks good on yours. Did you need to do anything to your suspension first?
  11. Yeah, SBlake rocks! He's a good "go-to" guy. Use him wisely.

No kidding! Hey, Dan, puncutation is a good thing. Welcome to the club!
  13. For rust, you'll be wanting to look at the spare wheel well, dog legs, battery compartment, floor pans. Those are some of the more popular spots for rust to gather, but check it bumper to bumper.

Hardly any once you get the the console and the two rubber boots lifted. I used a flathead screwdriver and it took about 2 minutes.

Welcome. Any old pictures of your Dad racing?
  17. If you're buying a 2+2, then SBlake is saying you will need the doors from another 2+2. Same rules if you buy a coupe, but it has to be from that generation, yours being 1979-1983.
  18. I'm pretty sure any door from a 1979-1983 ZX will fit.
  19. She's getting a new alternator and a couple of fuel injectors... it's like a gift from an uncle, sheesh! Oh yes, after hundreds and hundreds of dollars, I GIVE HER LIFE! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Man, I need some sleep...

Welcome! Yeah, for some reason, this car kind of takes ahold of you once you take notice of it. Congratulations on the aquisition. Any pictures of her?
  22. Thanks a lot, SBlake! I just returned your PM. I appreciate it.
  23. Is it worth trying to pull one off, or should I just order a new one? I'll need it in one piece and reusable, not just in one piece...

Congratulations! My parent's live for my daughters. Just wait until you have a lapfull. There's no happier time for a Grandparent.
  25. Just got back from the mechanic with some great news! The 78 280z I got a while ago for 2,000 needed a lot more work than the PO said, which is typical, but I just got to make the first full inspection of the undercarriage, and THE CAR HAS ABOUT A NICKELS WORTH OF RUST! It's great! Now I can go to work on the car without worrying if I am putting money into something that will soon need a complete teardown-buildup. The car does need all new bushing, so I'll see if I can find a cheap set, but other than tat and some new struts, she's almost perfect! As a few of you warned me might happen, the mechanic broke my EGR tube from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve. So anyway, the car is put back together, except for that. Now I need to find one, but I'm having a little trouble. Does anyone know where to get one? The dealer has one, but it will take two weeks to come in, so I guess it's off to the junkyard if noone has one lying around or doesn't know where to order one quicker than two weeks. WHOO-HOO! MY CAR IS RUST FREE! ROFLROFLROFL
