Are flares like this done by simply bending metal?
They are bolted on, then bondo'd in smooth. There are several names for them, "ZG flares" being one. I don't know if any sheet metal has to be cut for installation.

Gear Reduction Starter v. Standard
As I understand it, a gear reduction starter helps primarily on higher compression engines. Am I correct? If so, is there any advantage to using one when the existing starter (now 41 years old) is functioning properly? Thanks.

[2012] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
Over the past 10 days, I've ordered some engine compartment bling and installed some of it, as all of what I ordered has not arrived.

Hello all figured I would say hi
Good lookin' car, 383. Now you gotta rid yourself of that bowtie handle. If'n you stuff an old Mopar 383 in that Z, you can call yourself 383Z. That'll confuse the folks at Nissan for a while. Seriously, now, that is truly a splendid looking Z. You should be proud. Frank

SODA Blasting--Is it really that good?
Thanks, Julio. But Mikuni carbs don't have much of a "panel" to warp. Just looking to clean 'em up a bit. Perhaps glass bead blasting will be the best bet, reckon'?

SODA Blasting--Is it really that good?
I am seriously considering blasting my 40mm Mikuni carbs. Over the years they have accumulated a bit of atmospheric corrosion and need to be spruced up. Is soda blasting a method that will do a satisfactory job? If so, are small, portable blasters of viable use? What grade and type of soda would be recommended (Arm & Hammer, etc.)? Thanks, Frank

[2012] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
Thanks, Jackboxxx. Like others, I'd like to get a set of Stahl headers, but understand they're no longer in business or have ceased producing for the L series. I found these on eBay, sold by a guy I've done business with before, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Nissan-Z-280Z-240Z-N42-P90-E88-Ceramic-Coated-Square-Port-Header-NEW-/160709987854?hash=item256b0fce0e&item=160709987854&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr. I've written him inquiring of tube diameter and flange thickness. These headers have the square ports to fit my E31 head and from the photos appear to be pretty decent quality. I'll further explore your other provided links via phone on Monday. Many thanks!

Got the hold-down bracket cut down and re-welded, painted and installed. Looks pretty spiffy now. Next project is a new set of headers. Looking for 3-2, if you have a source, lemme know.

Wow. My 9mm comment was meant more as a bit of subtle humor rather than as what some of you have portrayed. Sorry if I upset your applecarts.

A 9mm would discourage such activity.

popping through the exhaust at 4500 rpm or so.. HELP!
Having read most, if not all of this thread's posts, I notice a similarity of sorts with what I experience with my Mikuni set-up. But only when everything is sorta cold. Once the engine and carbs are fully heat saturated, the stumbling goes away... I'm sure that's NOT the issue you have, Stephen, so take it as what it is....

Jetting for Reno or 4500' above sea level
Bill M. has, if I'm not mistaken, Mikunis on his Z. He may be able to help if there are some similarities betwixt Webers and Mikes. Next time you see Mr. Bill, give him my best regards.

[2012] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
After installing the battery, I discovered the hold-down bracket was too large. Grrr. Now I've got to cut it down and re-weld it for it to fit properly. Plus I have to elevate the battery so the firewall bracket screw will mate up with the hole.

Began the process of replacing battery cables & battery. I am switching battery to an Optima 35 (with the + and - post positions swapped from original). Bought 24K gold-plated terminal clamps, new 4 ga wiring. Soldered lugs on the cables where needed. Battery goes in today.
