  1. Spring sounds good for a do-over. I'm in.
  2. When crap happens, it comes in bunches. It appears that the Z will not be ready for a Friday departure. I sent the valve cover off for a professional polish in early November. It's still not back and I found it hasn't even been shipped yet. Plus, a family friend was admitted to the hospital yesterday and is expected to be released next Saturday or Sunday. I gotta be there for him. So, Stephen, you'll need to cancel me out. Frank
  3. There is no way you could disappoint me, Stephen, unless you sold your Z.

I agree w/Gary. Except you're a lot closer to me than him. Seriously, a dolly would be your best bet.
  5. For those of you on Facebook, take a minute to view the attached video. Some of you may recognize my old Z.... https://www.facebook.com/groups/313340212762/
  6. Good link, but the translation is a bit sketchy. Informative, too.
  7. Also get Z Therapy's DVD on tuning SUs.
  8. ^5 to what he said. I'm really looking forward to this little excursion....
  9. Yep. That'd be cricket. Or go daring and get a gold one... ... Seriously, any color is suitable.
  10. That is SO nice and thoughtful of you, Stephen. Thank you!

I said not required. They're there if you want to use them, though. I haven't found it necessary. Half a dozen stabs at the gas pedal after sitting for a week and I'm off and running. If having sat for just overnight, two stabs are all that's needed.

We're not collectorz. We're caretakerz. Guardianz of the icon. Enthuziasts. Oh, well, you get the point.... Read, read and read some more. Ask questions if you don't understand something. When you finally get your Z, you'll be amply prepared to undertake whatever the Z will require to make it yours.
  13. My age gives me away. I've worn nothing but buttoned shirts for nearly 68 years. I feel sloppy and ill-dressed in anything but a buttoned shirt. Sue gets so pissed at me....

Not required. Webers and Mikunis have accelerator pumps while SUs do not.
  15. THAT is an attractive logo, Stephen. I'd surely take one. Are you still thinking Tees or have you considered buttoned shirts?

I have not had to do this, but from reading other's postings in days/months past, it involves fabricating brackets and a bit of ingenuity.

Also, get Dave Irwin's headlight relay package. You'll be glad you did.

Based on what you've written, $1500 is twice what you should even be considering. $500 is more like it, IMO.
  19. To add to what Blue said, you could also have corrosion at the battery terminals. Clean the lugs and terminals w/baking soda and give her another try.
  20. That is awfully nice of Z-Therapy. If'n I had SUs, I'd certainly be a customer of theirs!
  21. Nice job!
  22. It'd be great to see you two again, Rick. Maybe we can come up with something on this side. OK, classic owners, how 'bout a few ideas?? Frank

You'll be well served to pull the antenna assembly and disassemble for cleaning. Lots of water and crap gets in it over the years. Lube the areas that need it w/water resistant grease. You may also find the white "snake" that actually drives the mast has become unattached from the reel or has broken. It is not a difficult thing to do and be sure to unplug the water drain hose.

"Back in the day (the '50s)" I used diesel fuel for the same purpose. Ran it for about 10 minutes to get things warmed up, dumped the oil, added the diesel fuel, ran it for 5 minutes at idle, dumped it. Fresh oil for 15 minutes and dumped it. New filter and oil and off we go. No issues with engines of that era. I wouldn't recommend it with today's engines and oils, though and beermanpete has a better solution than what I did 50 years ago.
