The great TEXAS Z Car (and foreign Car) rally - 2011
That's a decent idea, especially for some of the newer Z owners. That will assuage some anxiety and build a bit of confidence. We can meet at my place if desired. Get me a list of travelers and I'll PM my address to them...

The great TEXAS Z Car (and foreign Car) rally - 2011
Called in to book. Lady answered after a dozen rings, said the phones were going nuts. Will call me back. Ben (and anyone else), we can drive over together if you'd care to do that. I'd like to leave here noonish on the 2nd if that fits your schedule.

The great TEXAS Z Car (and foreign Car) rally - 2011
Driving versus towing is a matter of trust. Trust in the work you've done to your Z. Trust in the parts you've used on your Z. Trust in the totality of your Z itself. Driving such a short distance will also provide you invaluable insight as to what else might need to be done to make your Z the "perfect" Z for you. Without such information, you may still be shooting in the dark without laser-sights. I was visiting with Ben yesterday at a small car show. I told him that I wouldn't hesitate half a second to gas and go anywhere in mine. Anywhere. Why did I say that? Because I trust the totality of the car. I trust what I've done and what I've paid others to do for me. The ONLY downside I can think of is the minimal risk of some road rash and the even smaller risk of a collision of some sort. In short, there's nothing to stop you from driving your Z except you. Let the flames begin....

Got my Z back after 6 years
Six years. It took 30 to get mine back. You will certainly be pleased when she's whole again!

Real racing
Considering they were using the best technology of the day and the best designs of the day, it's amazing ANYONE in those crashes survived, much less walked away.

I'm an Idiot !
Ditto the nod for the paintless dent removal process. It works!

Oil pump install - advice needed!
Do you have a FSM? That gives the exact things you MUST do to ensure accurate installation.

Braided SS fuel lines
My Z is rigged with solid SS lines from the tank to just aft of the firewall, then -AN fitted to SS braided lines to the fuel block and carbs. Seems easier that way and some less costly.

[2011] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
After discovering I'd driven the Z only 250 miles in the past 12 months, I took her out for about 25 miles to and from the range. I'll definitely be driving it more than 250 miles THIS year.

Strong fuel smell in the car when I turn LEFT
Your assumption about a leaking filler hose or return line are most likely correct, Stephen. Over time, hoses can become "soaked through" or maybe even a bit porous due to the differences in fuel formulation between the early 70s and today. Frank

For clarification, how do you define "Classic Zs" for the purpose of this event? S30 only S30 & S130? Frank

Have you posted this on Facebook yet? "The Z Club of Houston (Official)" is the name of the group to which a lot of folks post.

Sorry for the LARGE delay in answering this publicly... I hope our PMs have answered your questions sufficiently....?? Frank

Rewinds vs RBs
Unless I am totally off-base here, the S30 must use Zero offset unless you employ spacers. At least that's what I've read and seen elsewhere... Somebody tell me if I'm wrong on this.

Tranny Oil
75-90 Royal Purple in mine. Works great hot or cold.

350z ---> Datsun 240z drivetrain swap?
Oh, boy. You've really got a lot of work to do when you tackle that job. Check out HybridZ dot org and do a bit of searching for that particular swap. Those guys have pretty much done it all.

fuel return line needed?
My old Stewart Warner thumper pump dead-heads into triple Mikunis and has since 1971 with zero problems and no vapor lock issues. I understand the advantages of cooling the fuel, but that hasn't been an issue.... yet.

Makes sense to me.

How long will the average L28 live?
Fastwoman nails it. L engines will live through an astonishing number of miles before requiring major work. Having said that, since you have it out of the car already, it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to give it a look-see and refresh those parts showing a bit of wear.
- How hard is it to put in a fuel injection system??

my z wont go past 80 ml an hr
Not to be snarky, but I have libidinous difficulty keeping mine UNDER 80.....
