How many of us are planning to DRIVE our S30s to Phoenix this September?
  2. Speaking for Mikuni carbs... For years, I ran without using the "choke." About a week before the crash, I hooked up a choke cable to the trio. "Why did I wait so long to try this?" Starting is considerably easier, the engine smooths out immediately with nary a hiccup. You'll just have to try it yourself to see if you experience the difference I discovered.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it IS Easter. My 10/70 '71 has had retractable belts installed. They work well, seemingly, with one exception: The seat and lower retract unit have about a 3/8" interference fit which will not allow the seat to travel to its rear-most position. I do not know which belts are installed. Question: Do any of you that have installed retractable belts experienced this problem? If so, what were your remedies? Many thanks!
  4. With the engine in, you've got a job. If you haven't already, you'll need to drop the sway bar and maybe the oil pump (can't remember for sure). No adhesive on the block, just make sure the mating surface is squeaky clean with zero old-gasket-residue. Get the first corner bolt in, as Pop's Z said, followed by the bolt on the diagonal corner opposite and work your way around. I think it took me about three hours to do mine several years ago... or maybe it was 3 days!

    I have one that's in about 6,000 pieces. :-(
  6. Wow! Looks like fun, but way too expensive for this old "retired" dude....

Yep, glad your boy is OK. I feel your pain.....

Only safety and comfort mods. I might swap out the 4 speed for the CR 5 speed a d 3.9 diff, but that's all. Big ? on the motor. Carbs seem intact.

Check awesomez.org and look at for sale section. It's the second listing. Not glamour shots, but gives a decent pictorial.
  10. You need to explore your inner cave man.....

I know it isn't customary for a person to re-wed so soon after losing a loved one, but I found and bought yesterday a pristine '71 (10/70). Pics will be put up soon. These next 10 days are very busy for me, that's why the delay. Some details: Completely disassembled down to the last nut and bolt and media blasted. Any rust issues resolved. Undercarriage powder coated. Complete repaint. New engine rebuilt (not matching numbers) w/zero miles (original engine tossed #6 rod through the block after an accidental overrev). Stock suspension. 4-speed. White/turquoise. The underside is almost as clean as the topside. Besides, the wife likes it. What more could a boy desire???
  12. Andrew! What a terrific idea. I'll pass it by Doug and see what he thinks.
  13. Bypass the resistor!!!
  14. And you lived through that?

Well, grannyknot, as the saying goes, the world is your oyster. You have, literally, a blank slate. Some of us like to keep the car as bone stock as possible. Others like to modify the car for looks, performance, safety, etc. I find myself among that latter group as the S30 today operates in an environment unforseen 40+ years ago. Make no mistake in thinking an original is bad, because it isn't. It's precious. It gives us all a reference point. I wish you the best of all things Z. Just be true to yourself.
  16. Tomorrow is when I reclaim ownership of 721. I've agreed to the buy-back amount (YEA!) I'm also going to be looking at an S30, white w/blue (yuk) interior. There may be a fit there, 'cause the interior of 721 can possibly be transferred by a decent interior guy. I'll post up what I find later tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all the leads and encouragement. My depression is slowly starting to lift and I'm becoming more focused. Frank BTW, I'll change my avatar and sign-off when 721 officially goes to the razor blade factory.
  17. My ZX 5-speed had no lock-out.
  18. Just this morning. A lot higher than I'd anticipated (although my experience with this sort of thing is ZERO) @ $2500. Gonna buy it back. If nothing else, I can reclaim the VIN plates for a little book I'm putting together documenting the life of the car. Since I haven't decided on a replacement Z yet, I'll inventory the useable parts in the next few weeks to see what I might be able to use on another S30. The rest will be up for sale. Stay tuned, sports fans. The listing will be under the appropriate topic, and not here.
  19. That is a nice looking car.
  20. Nice car, no doubt, but if I wanted a 'Vette.... I'm still looking. QUOTE=z boy mn;393813]What do you think of this one? http://ithaca.craigslist.org/cto/2915056387.html I found it in NY and the seller seems pretty up-front. He sent me additional photos right away and answered all my questions. The car is from Kentucky and looks clean underneath. I'm going to have to pass as it's out of my price range, but I'm going to buy a lottery ticket this week! Note, it does have some custom body features...for example, the taillights have been replaced with lights from a vette. I have the additional pix still if you want me to send them.
  21. You're breaking my heart, Dan. Thanks for the memories....

You cannot go wrong. Just take your time and have an end goal in mind.
  23. Yes, Jeff, easily.
  24. That is correct, 5th. I am given right of first refusal on the auction price. Haven't heard from Hagerty as of this writing.... tick, tick, tick....
  25. Thanks. I was told I'd have a buy-back number yesterday or today. I looked on copart.com but there was no way I could find to search for prior auction bids.
