  1. installed a set of amber fog lights, they are a NIB set made in Japan for Kmart. I used a spare Hazard switch i had.

  7. Thats what I did , I carried a Hagerty policy on the car the whole time I was doing the restoration, Once I was ready to put it on the road I got plates and insurance. I was living in Alberta at the time, and the car was from Alberta so I did not need a out of province inspection. But when I moved to BC I got a out of province inspection. It was quite simple and the staff at the garage were more interested in talking about the car than fretting over details. My car is fully stock so there were no modifcation issues. That said, I don't think that ICBC has much of a say in the inspection, only that the car has passed one. The inspection is for mechanical correctness and safety. In fact I still carry the Hagerty policy as well as the ICBC insurance, because the only answer I could get out of them to the question "what happens if the car is totalled in a accident" was a vague "you would get fair market value for the car".

Richard: Steve beat me to it, you can see the male snaps in the bottom two corners of the firewall cover in this photo.The sharp pointed rings push through the carpet from the pile side and then through the slots on the snaps. Then they are bent over to hold the snaps in place. As Steve said the carpet is for the drivers side the "tongue" fits between the seat mounts. Dan
  9. If you are asking how the spring and washer go. The cotter pin goes on the outside( non spring) side of the washer, you have to compress the spring to install the cotter pin. The hooked rod is in the correct position.

  13. Zkars: if both of your new cars have no-emmisions stuff including no air pump I would say they are a UN not a UA.

  16. Thanks Carl, i would add Ontario, Canada to that statement as I understand they got the VRS even in 1970 but the rest of Canada did not follow suit until the 1971 model.
  17. So after zKars posted his latest car it looks like an pre 1971 HLSUN-30, which made me start to wonder how many of these cars are still around. Please do not hold me to any of the numbers that I am about to put out there as some are from other sources and some guesses on my parts. So the production records show that 1201 cars where shipped to Canada in 1970. If we remove the HLSU -30 cars that were shipped to Ontario. We would come up with the number of pre 1971(non-emission)HLSUN-30 cars. As I cannot find any records showing the different sub-sets of imports I will use population ratios to guess. The population of Canada was 21.3 Million and the population of Ontario was 6.96 Million we end up with around 810 cars that where shipped to the rest of Canada. I realize that this is quite rough as southern Ontario was the largest area of employment at the time in Canada so I would guess there would be more orders for these cars there than the farming areas on the prairies or the fishing communities of the east coast. I do not have a list of Canadian Datsun dealers, which might help with a better guess. So this subset of the HLS-30 looks to be as rare or rarer then the VIN number of less than 1000. Wish Datsun would have put the UN lettering in the firewall VIN I got some of the information from this post. Thanks @Mike B

I worked in a sour gas plant and there was a story that back in the 80's when it was Gulf they make keepsakes to hand out to the kids during school tour, by pouring molten sulphur into small blocks with the Gulf logo on them. All the kids would take them home and they ended up on top of the family TV or in a china cabinet. Well needless to say the following year Gulf was going around replacing TV's and paying someone to polish all the tarnished silver.
  20. I have been thinking about getting a game camera as well, we have bears in our back yard all fall. Here is a photo of one about 15' up in a apple tree in the middle of the day. The tree is in the lot across the street from my house.
  21. Checked mine today and no plastic cover, but my car is not a early one and I can not say for sure that the one I have is original to the car.
  22. I think the hazard switch on a 73 will be a pull knob that lights up green and a 72 would have just a toggle switch. as well the faceplate for the heater controls will be back light on a 73.
  23. 1+ for welding, I would worry that they could work loose if you ground them down. Now that I say that, how will the glue react to the heat from welding? So filling them in with goop makes the most sense.
