Thank you all for your responses they steared me in the right direction. Turns out, one of the tach wires I had replaced recently was the culprit and it by-passed an important piece of the alternator sensing line. My inexperience definately showing through on that one. /thanks again, Rich

I have two problems with the electrical system. The first has to do with the turn signals. When I turn the switch one way, both lights blink. Only one turn signal is illuminted in the dash though. I'm lost here... The other thing is the tach. When I turn the key on it pegs high and stays there. 73 240z Any suggestions? Rich
  3. I believe the all metal box is the resistor. In my Z, it takes a green wire and a black and white wire. One is from the tach the other is from the ignition switch. Hope that helps. Rich

Just replaced voltage regulator I don't mean to sound silly here, but if the car starts, doesn't that mean I have a good connection on both ends(the battery and the starter)? The ammeter(in dash) shows a discharge when the car is running. If driven a sufficient amount of time the car starts to cut-out because the battery is the only electrical supply. The voltage regulator and alternator have both been replaced and the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks Rich

I have tried everything you suggested. The only exception is that I don't have a trouble light, so I used my multi-meter. It registered a 5 mamp discharge which I think might just be the clock on the radio(aftermarket). Is there anything else I can try. I also did not find the fusable links. I checked the firewall the only thing that I found there of the wiper relay. Thanks Rich

I have a 73 240z. The battery has been draining even wth the enigine running. The ammeter sows a discharge when the vehicle is running. I have already had the alternator checked and have replaced the voltage regualtor. The problem seems to be that the power from the alternator is not reaching the electrical system. Haynes and Chilton both mention fusable links that protect the starter and alternator, but I cannot find them. Can anyone assist me with this. I am open to any other suggestions as to what the problem might be also. I'm sure it is probably something annoyingly easy and probably obvious too. Thanks, Rich
  7. I have had a problem like this on my Z. There are three connections that, if not connected, the car will not start but will turn over. One is one the starter, it will be the little wire on the positive terminal. Another is the Tach connection to the positive side of the coil. The last one is the ground wire to the distributer. I'm saying this is what the problem is but it could be an easy fix.
