Hi Sarah,Probably not but pulling the trans is more than a 5 minute job so go with your gut on this one,a few years back rebuild parts where available pretty cheap so I threw a new drive gear in my 280 and it was A OK. It's pretty simple to heat up the ring gear and swap out if you discover the teeth are ground down,if you inspect the drive gear you'll see wear only occurs in several areas because thats where the engine always stops (usually 3 areas)when you pull the starter use a 1/2 breaker bar and slowly turn the motor over by hand watching the teeth as they rotate by the starter drive opening,If the teeth look like minimal wear your good to go! I wouldn't stress, score a Nissan reman starter and you'll be gold! Talk to Ya, Vince

Hi Sarah, Sounds like your starter may be on the way out internally,if you dont have a grinding when cranking then you probably still have a flywheel ring gear that's in good shape. If your 280 is still starting fine just ride it out until you start getting a click/no start,if your concerned about a no start situation then drop a reman unit in.A good battery/starter tester will get you a little more insight on your cables & battery.on 280z's always pay close attention to those fuse links under the plastic covers at the passenger fender, they corrode and make other power supply issues,Good Luck! Vince
  4. Hi Todd, Tough room, advise is free metal costs money and you may be at this crossroad but this upgrade might transform you S30 into a more enjoyable ride;, First, scrap the York, although the clutch will engage odds are the system went inop when the r-12 freon leaked, probably the hoses using clamps or the evaporator which has exceeded it's mechanical limits.Superior Air offers a r134 system with mountings which has a perfect fit evaporator,a/c switch, updated compressor and only requires 2 hoses to be slightly modified. Second, scrap that wimpy externally regulator alternator for the ZX internally regulated unit, throw the regulator in the trash (unless your a purist and AM radio is the only electric load you require),call motorsports and buy the $20 diode which will allow the engine to turn off when you kill the ignition,it plugs into the OE connector perfectly. This will allow you to add electric fan,a real tuner and amp, foglights ect....all the stuff real sport cars enjoy on road trips. Then when your ready for the Mikuni triples you'll have plenty of amps to push the electric fuel pump. Good Luck with the upgrade
  5. 4 paragraphs when one would due, 3 trips off topic, this is nothing new, 2 eyes will they see the good in it all? Raise the bonnet & set the jack, time for a retool chap, the rehash is quite stale. Rest in peace Mr Jackson. 1958-2009
  6. Here again we have a perfect example of a simple misunderstanding blown into a reason to down grade the museum. It's sad to see the repeated negative energy certain club members put into a museum they have never visited or contributed, though not surprising finding the good always takes an extra effort. Congrats! It looks like the old school cleaned up,since it was a judged show & not people's choice the playing field was level.I was amazed a 72 240z could out point $100,000 350's,but a Bob Sharp wide body took 1st place in Extreme Class which included 1st-6th generation Z's. 318 turns in 11 miles,Hang On the Dragon bites! Here's an extra,Bob Sharp has a new 240z race car,Surprise!
