Why aren't YOU going to ZCON 2008?
I'd love to go but it's soo expensive to transport my car that distance. My Z is a great daily driver but I don't trust it to make the round trip without something breaking after all it's 35 years old. Last years show was great and basically down the street for me. Besides I'd rather put the $ into my 82ZXT restoration. I hope you have a great event.

heard a rumor today...can anybody confirm it??
I have to agree with Beandip. There a big difference living near the beach vs on the beach. It also depends on the prevelance of the wind. If you live where the wind is mostly onshore then rust will be a problem, just as bad as salted roads since when it rains it's a mixture of both. I grew up on the beach on the EastCoast of Florida and all my cars had rust problems, of coarse it didn't help by driving on the beaches in Daytona. I'm older and wiser now. I hide my Z whenever there's a Noreaster.

Sold for $19k - a great buy!
Many buyers of the oringinal Z's had to settle for what ever color was availible at the dealer at that time or wait a long time for what they wanted with the problem of the price to be increased by the time it arrived. The PO of my car settled for orange and I'm glad he did. I do think the white with red interior is a great looking combination.

Need weight confirmation for 240Z
Pull off at a interstate truck weigh station, maybe they will give you docuentation of the weight. At least you won't get billed with an overweight semi

Parking the Z
I agree with with the last post. Don't sell it if you don't need to. If your only cost is keeping up your insurance it's well woth it. I have three cars, 240, 280 zxt and a SUV not counting my kids two cars. When one is in the shop at least we have some thing to get around in. You will be sorry when you finish college and you want another Z and what the cost will be then.

Ball park figure on Rebuild
Carl is right on the mark. Just had my ZXT rebuilt and that what it cost. Small price to pay for another 200,000 miles

'71 Series I 240Z Refurbished
Great looking car. Hopefully there will be a Z-fest in Orlando this fall to show it off. CFZCC has hosted it in the past, but have heard nothing since the International Z Convention Daytona last fall. Maybe they are still resting after putting on a great event last year.

Bumper Guards?
I know this is spinning this thread a bit but does anyone know where to get the black rubber bumper guard covers for the rear of a 72. Mine are cracked and I have not been able to find them on Blackdragon or MSA. Thanks Bill

OIl pressure sending unit
The oil pressure gauge in both of the 240's I've owned always read low. Didn't think they were that accurate to begin with. One mechanic said " high volume low pressure" what ever that means.

Where to buy Tail-Light Panels???
Mike, That's not really not that much to pay for an NOS part. You could always restore what you have. Restoring these cars does cost $ and time if you want it done right. Don't expect to get your $ back anytime in the near future. It's all about the joy of owning and driving a great little sports car.

Future for the 240z
Austin, There's a few people in G'ville with first gen Z's that can give you advice with your project.

Nice and/but pricey
Beautiful car. Worth every $ for the purist that could afford it.

Flza
I tried to log on to the Florida Z association web site (FLZA.com) and it seems to be gone. Does anyone know what happened to it?

1981 280 ZX, want to refurbish, worth it?
As far as"is it woth it" You probably won't get back what you put in it if you were to sell it. If you bought a new car you would never get back your investment. If you intend to keep it as a driver and not turn it into a show car and it has a good body (no rust issues) it's cheaper to fix things as it needs it than buying a new one. I picked up a 82 ZXT because I wanted to decrease the miles I was putting on my 240. Now it's my daily driver and the 240 is my weekend car. I knew when I bought it I was going to have to put money in it, such as a suspension, rebuilt engine and other thing but the body was in good condition. It's a great daily driver more creature comforts than a 240 and more comfotable to drive. "was it worth it" to me it was.

Big blue smoke burst
$2,000-3,000 in my area. Your tranny probably would have been less if you did it all at one time.

Stock Replacement Springs
Thanks guys for your imput. Only about 1/2 inch is needed. Carl I heard you may be coming up to Gainesville next weekend for Bill Coffey's garage Z party, if so it will be great to meet you, I'll be there with my orange 72.

Stock Replacement Springs
Don't mean to change the thread a little but since it's the same topic I have some questions that the members can help me with since I really don't know much about suspensions. My youngest son decided to put wider rims and tire's on the rear of his 73 and it rubs when it goes over bumps. He tried spring shims and that didn't stop the rubbing. whats the best fix to change the ride height, different springs or adjustable struts. Any suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks Bill

280Z Hub Caps
Those are from a 72/73. I have two sets, one I use for daily dring and one like those when I show it. the center piece looks great if you want to sell it let me know if you decide to make a clock of it ,one of mine fell off and looking for one in good shape.

Getting frustrated
"Patience grasshopher all things will happen in due time" I was lucky to find my 72 after along time waiting to find the right one, only to find it a few miles from my house for sale by a retired professer who restored it in 96 and kept it garaged all that time and only put 10,000 miles on it. bought it for less than your willing to pay. My son recently bought a 73 in good shape for $7'000 not all stock oringinal but a good looker. They out there but you have to be patient. But you need to know once you buy it you will always be putting money into it, it's part of owning a first generation Z.
