Hub cap refinishing
Great job. I did mine awhile back but not to the extent of yours. The taping is a pain with all the curves. Mine came out okay and stay on all the time except when I show it. I was luckey to find a set that a friend;s father had stored when he bought his Z from the dealer and put Mags on. They are in great condition and no rust on the back, I only use them when I go to a show. I think the oringinal hubs look better the any mags, my opinion.

Greg Ira’s Revtec Team Sweeps Daytona
Why wasn't there a mention of who the second placed Z was. It was a great race with passing going on by both.

Had a question about 240z's
Both of the 2 72 Z's I've owned both had all chrome bumpers except for the sides where the black rubber trim was

1982 280zx audio diagram
I just recently installed a new system in my 82 and ran into the same problem. I ended up just replacing all the wiring, speakers, power and ground also installed new speakers since I was that far into it. Probably the best thing to due since they were all 25 years old. It took a little bit longer but at least I know which wires are what now and the system sounds great.

ZX Steering Wheel
Dave, Interesting ideas, I didn't know it was plastic. The steering wheel feels like a spongy rubber compound.

Rust Repair, 280ZX in Colombia
Where are the pic's of the Celica.? Sold my 72 Mustang to buy a new 76 Celica Fastback. After 2 years traded it for my 72Z and have been a Z person ever since. The Celica Fastback was fun but underpowered. Haven't seen one in 20 years. I wonder how many are still around?

Interior screw parts
The two of seat mechanism cover screws on both of my seats broke off on mine when I went to reupholster my seats. I used silicon on the inside of the mechanism cover to put them back on and it has worked fine. Those little screws are small and brittle.

14 months later.
That's great you were able to do it. I tried to do that years ago with my first 72 that I purchased in 76 but when I got into it the body was too far gone to restore so I stored most of the parts and thought well maybe some day they will be usefull. A couple years ago some one told me about a guy that had the same year/color of the one I had who was restoring it and just wanted to get out of it. He had done the what I consider the hardest part body/paint but didn't have the money to complete the rest. I got it for a great price and used all my parts to finish it. It looks and runs great now. I know the feeling you must have driving it. What I did is nothing compared to the time and effort you put into your Z, you are to be commended for saving a first gen Z. I'm sure you'll never sell it.

machine shop costs?
Does that cost include placing the block back in the car and all the other things involved with that process?

Emblem Removal
When I removed my quater panel ones I used a thin flat headed screwdriver and worked my way around it like taking off a hubcab it poped out easily, just be careful for your paint use a cloth or some thing under the screwdriver. The fender ones were a little more difficult. There is a pin located about 1/2-1 inch from each end, use the screwdriver from the top then the bottom to free it out a little then do the same on the other side, the pins may break. Just be careful or the whole thing may break in half.

How many 240z's left?
Well, I've had four in my life. 71- used as a parts car then crunched 72- my first Z, started to restore but rusted beyond restoring, kept parts 72- shell bought for restoring with all the parts from the others, had kids gave it away for some one that would do it right it but kept many parts 72- Kids grown up, out of college. Bought a few years ago, semi restored body, paint and motor. Now restored as a great second daily driver. After 20 years of no Z, enjoying the hell out of it. Carl you said you think maybe 3% are still around. That would come out to some where about 4,000-5,000 there in some type of shape. How many first gen Mustang,s or Camero's do you think are out there?

1977 280z as daily driver
The Z is a strong car but the one your looking at is over thirty years old and things will break. As far as the mileage you says it has isn't much considering the age if it's truly represented. I don't know about the 280's but my 240 oddemeter turns over at 100,000. If it will be the only car you'll have you may want to reconsider. If some thing breaks even though there's plenty of parts out there, there not always avaible on a moments notice. I have two Z's a 72 and 82 and my truck just for that reason.

Nice new antenna switch made by Dave
Will, I don't exactly know what you mean by that. Are you suggesting that I some how rewire my antena switch to the defroster switch if thats possible that would be great? PS Thanks for the Daytona pic/cd your a stand up guy, Bill

Nice new antenna switch made by Dave
Scott, Thanks for your pic. Mine is the same but it's located on the driver side of the console. I like Dave's switch and have been thinking about placing it where the deforoster switch is since there's no need for a defroster where I live or putting it where the choke light is since it's useless anyway but I don't know if I should do that becase my 240 is primarily all stock and I'd like to keep it stock as much as possible except for a good sounding stereo.

Nice new antenna switch made by Dave
My switch is located on the side of the console drivers side up near the radio. Dave do you have a picture of your switch on your console. I would like to switch to your type of switch on the center of the console.
