Aussie help?
I heard on the grapevine that there is a company in Melbourne that does Dash restoration (i.e. recover) for $500 Australian. Don't know who yet but I was told this was the case.

what kind of front lip is this?
Definetly out of the MSA catalogue looks like it has modified indicators and definetly a customised grille.

Wow! My once-in-a-lifetime find!!!!!
What a great pick up. What do you intend to work on first. Drive train can always be done at anytime, and you find so many parts interchangeable. Scan for rust in the usual places, behind the front guards below the emblems, in the doors, cracks along the top of the door next to the window frame etc.. Floor plans can be a problem too if they haven't had the floor grommet's sealed. When driving in wet weather the water comes in. Hope this helps, good luck and keep us posted!

Engine Bay
I've just pulled my engine and gearbox out and are in the process of a full respray. I hope my engine bay is as neat as yours when it is finished!

Thoughts on 71 240Z? Should I?
If only I was over where you are that car would be in my garage!:devious:

How can you tell what engine I have
The easiest way to quicly tell if it is an L28 is to compare the rocker covers. The L24 and L26 have a more rounded rocker cover and the words nissan are much smaller. The rocker cover on an L28 is almost completely rectangle in shape with very little rounding on the edges and the words NISSAN are printed much larger and in a thick Bold Print. It looks almost identical to the RB31 86-90 Skyline 3.0L Engine. When you see it you'll know what I mean. See ya!!!!

Just bought 240z
Following on from 2Many there were no o2 sensors in 240 or 260Z's. Yes I too assume you are talking Fuel Injection. If you want to fix that problem slap a set of 240Z carbs on it and if I'm correct that engine if it is out of a 280ZX will have an Electronic Distributor on it. This is an absolute must for Zeds. The increased spark off the Electronic Distributor does absolute wonders at all Revs. Check your head no and this should tell you what car this engine came out of. It could be anything from a Early Petrol Patrol to an 280C or a 280ZX. With this info you will be able to put on what is best for you package. Good luck!

got another 73 240Z today
If you can't get $500 worth of parts of it I'll eat a 10 gallon hat. Well done!

Triple Webbers VS Standard?
To get the full benefit from Triple Webbers you really need high compression, good head work and the correct cam. I have a friend with an L28 with this work done putting out 230BHP at the flywheel with the 240Z carbs but with the triple webbers it has gone up to between 280-300BHP. There is a bit setting them up but there worth it..............if you don't want fuel economy?

Whats under your hood?
I've just put an Jap Import L28 with standard flat top pistons in my 240. At the moment it has the 240Z carbs stand manifold and a set of extractors.

How fast does your Zed go???????????
Very true no point going fast if you can't stop. My 240 has 300ZX brake discs front and rear with spaced calipers to fit enlarged brake pads. It rides on fully adjustable Koni suspension and when MSA send me a catalogue I'll buy some spoilers for it so it glues to the road. I tried it the other day it only did 120 mph which was disappointing because my 260Z 2+2 does the same speed. Huh wait till the engine transplant for the 240 is completed. Long live the ZED......

260Z
Do you have a problem with the air becoming to hot sucking straight out of those air cleaners near the engine. The original air box forces air into it to cool the air so I've been told!

Rebuilding a 5-speed
One of the local Zed specialists builds his own competition boxes comprising of 240Z gear ratios but using 280ZX synchro rings. The synchro's in the 280 are alot stronger and can take more punishment then the standard rings. These gearboxes are comfortably handling over 300BHP. It is amazing what time and a good lathe operator can build.

2+2 vs 2 Seaters
I agree on some angles my 76 2+2 does look better then a 2 seater. Glad to see someone else thinks this. However I just picked up a 240 8 years after I bought my 2+2 and it is a real Zed. You can't beat them...:classic:

240, 260, or 280
To dodge emmission laws in our country anything prior to 6/76 doesn't have to have pollusion controls. For that I would you a 260 shearly due to it's extra weight and strength over the light and nimble 240. You probably are going to roll cage it or strengthen it though somehow so maybe that won't be an issue.....

???
Any where betwen 150-165BHP at the flywheel. The 240Z SU's will give an increased torque and pulling feel all through the rev range over the standard pardon the expression crap 260 carbs. Of course how is your compression on each cylinder this will effect the BHP rating.

83 L28 with 70 SUs into 5/70
I have the same configuration in my 260 and I didn't have to change the oil pan, hope this helps;)
