  1. Is that the later model, larger brake booster? Looks like it from the pic. That's what I put in mine and I could tell the difference in pedal pressure.
  2. Yep. But the lighter flywheel can add to making the idle less stable than with the heavier stock part. I love the way a lighter flywheel revs, but since it's a "street" car, didn't go that route on mine for exactly this reason. It's aways good for someone to know the full impact of a potential change before investing their time & money...
  3. What they said, but depending on your cam, your idle smoothness may suffer with an light flywheel.
  4. Dave, Those should work very well. Who makes the 40 degree angle LED's? Most I've seen in hi-power is 25 degree. P.S. - I'm an ME, so my soldering skills are marginal on a good day!
  5. Mike: Thanks for link to the flasher. It's perfect for the application. Tomohawk: I'm a compact, (at least height-wise), 5'-7.5 inches tall. There may be a difference in our physical size & visual path geometry when sitting behind the wheel. I can't see the upper rear window seal in my rear-view. Perhaps a benefit of being "vertically challenged". *grin*
  6. Very Nice Dave! Very clean, modern look. How much light do the strip LED's put out? Are they "high-power" LED's like those used in the Audi driving lights? While I have a slight preference for the "look" of Cygnusx1's the halo lights, I really like that your strip lights should provide some side lighting on poorly lit back roads. *So when are you going to make a turning headlight kit? That would be the ultimate upgrade! *grin* BTW, I'm working on a nicer looking housing design for my third brake light and should post some pics in the next two weeks. I'll be happy to provide the CAD files to anyone who wants to duplicate, (or improve), it.
  7. Now it's listed as 80% chance of rain on Saturday. While I'm wash-n-wear, my Z is allergic to salty water from the skies... I'll try for November, assuming weather & wife permits. Looks like this Saturday I'll be checking to see if the boat has any new port-light or hatch leaks to be caulked!
  8. Glad to hear you and the family are OK. I live near Sanfrancisco and have been through a few big ones. It can be pretty scary and we had minor damage to both previous houses in the last two "big-uns". Wev'e kept a small eathquake kit stocked since the 1989 quake.
  9. From what I've seen, not much difference in value, but most 240Z buyers want a manual tranny, so they can be more difficult to sell.
  10. If it's not raining and my bride has made no plans for me I'll try to make it. Will know later in the week.
  11. Not much. You can try a bit of chrome polish, but they are likely to be pitted. There are places that will re-plate the plastic trim pieces, but it's expensive, about $75 per part.
  12. Anybody have a spare shifter for a 280Z 5-speed? They appear to be unobtainium. I’ve checked with several Z used parts sites, the CZCC classifieds, Craig’s list and ebay. The MSA short shift kit is on 3 month back-order. Thanks!
  13. That's just an artifact of light in the photograph, (I'm not a highly skilled photographer). Door panels are reproduction stock, black vinyl panels.
  14. With the hi-intensity LED's, I think and enclosure may be required. I think I'll try designing a strip-light version with 14 LED's that's much shallower. At approximately 0.75" deep, it will not be visible in the rear view mirror. I'm thinking it would be 0.75" thick and about 2.75" deep.
  15. Mitchell, Attached are a couple pics. The previous owner didn't do a very good job, so there are some quite visible defects in the overall finish under the hood. The close-up pic shows stipled finish of the rubberized undercoating.
  16. Kinda like my morning drive to work. . . . NOT! That's a cool video. I actually felt my heart rate increase in some of the corners!
  17. It's two coats of spray-on sound deadener with a final coat of satin black paint. The first coat of sound deadener was done (poorly) by the previous owner. I added the second coat to improve the appearence. The seat covers are from MSA, the center panels replaced with a black & grey tweed uhpolstry fabric. They are identical to what I did on my previous 240Z in the late 1980's. The cloth inserts make the seats more comfortable on hot days or longer drives. They cloth is almost a perfect match with the carpet. The carpet is indoor-outdoor from Home Depot.
  18. Good idea Bruce. I have two blocks of six LEDs in series and could do that by making one of them a "flashing" LED. I'll have to give that a try.
  19. Cause some guys prefer a posterior view, some guys like a profile, and some like to see whats under-the-hood... Thanks guys for expressing your appreciation. As always, the pictures hide all the warts I see, but I'm pleased with how she came out. The paint job really glows in the sun. Yes, the Rebello engine does provide spirited performance, but forget listening to the radio when at speed. Quite alright by me. Prior to leaving on our unsanctioned rally to Danville, I let a guy who tracks his 300+ HP Evo & Miatas drive the car. He later decribed the car to another guy there as "responsive, light and eager".
  20. I really like your approach, (better than mine). Now I have to re-think my design! Without a housing do you get any visible glare in your rear view mirror at night?
  21. Day off work today, so I went out and took a few pics of the Z. Still need to finish installing the under-hood AC components and the 5-speed, but she's almost done. Hope you like the pics!
  22. Attached are some pics of my 1st prototype 3rd brake light. I figure trucks and SUV's won't easily see my brake lights below their hood line. The housing is polycarbonate made on a 3D printer. I tried to mimic a vinyl surface finish by dabbing the wet paint with a paper towel. It uses 12 red, high intensity LED's, (3300 mcd, 25 degree). To limit current and save the LED's I used a 150 ohm resistor for each block of six LED's. In the pics I show the light temporarily mounted using double sided tape. It appears to be bright enough in daylight powered w/ a 12 VDC battery charger. The housing shape is a bit crude / "blocky", so I've decided to design a new housing with angled sides. Also I plan to make it a about 1/4" shallower, so it's not visible to the driver in the rear view mirror. One of the pics shows the driver's view though the rear view mirror and you can see it's just visible.
  23. Sounds like you may have multiple problems. I agree with the post above. First, fix the starter issue so you can move forward to diagnose the rough idle, etc. Start by verifing that you have current going to the solenoid when you turn the key. If that's good, then check that the starter solenoid is working properly. Many parts stores have a tester to check the condition of starters. (you have to remove the starter from the car).
