    Wanting To Race

A weekend autocross event is a lot of fun and I recommend you try it. Your first few times will quickly teach you what you don't know about going fast around corners... I used to auto-x all the time when I was younger. In the early to mid 1970's we ran my buddy's TR4 in Sacramento, and even won a few prizes. I later ran my 2L Ford Pinto in college and consistently beat the Bimmer 2002's, which really pissed them off. Could never beat the "set-up" Opel Manta's with race-prepped engines. In late 1970's autocross started becoming very competitive. We ran my first 240Z and a friend's Alfa Romeo 2000 Spyder and did OK, but could never beat the "serious" cars . Outside club "fun runs", to be competitive, you pretty much need to have a car specifically set-up for autocross. However, even though my "street" Z can't compete with cars in her class that are "set-up" for autocross, it's still a blast to do a few runs between the cones at a weekend event.
  2. I have Interstate lead-acid in my Z. Not sure I'm ready to try lithium until I know they have the overheating issue completely solved. Too many issues with cell phones and other devices having lithium battery failures...

Good Luck! We are all cheering for you!
  4. I know what I've spent, I'm just trying to ignore it!
  5. My bored-out 2.7 L6 gets about 24+ mpg on the freeway, but only about 12 mpg city, probably because of the performance cam, (and the driver). My oil pressure is typically well above the mid-point "at speed", but at idle sometimes drops to zero, even though it's got oil pressure. , because that's how the newer type oil pressure sender operates.
  6. Often cranking isn't enough to get fuel to the carbs with a mechanical pump. squirt a little fuel or starting fluid in the intake and she will probably fire right up.
  7. Xmas money? I was the "source" of everyone else's Xmas money! Nothing for the Z this holiday, except some loving care... Seriously, we had a lovely Xmas with family and friends, and hope everyone else was as fortunate. Happy holidays and a great new year!
  8. Happy Holidays! Just finished washing Xmas dinner dishes, so now I can relax!
  9. My current 240 doesn't have them, but my previous car had some shims to move the bumper out about 1/8".
  10. My 2.7 L Rebello L6's valve train does seem a bit noisier than stock. My valve settings are good, though I'd rather they were slightly loose than too tight.. I suspect it's due to the cam. It really does run great!
  11. Have loved 240Z's since they 1st came out. Got a used one after completing college. Now on my 3rd one. Very solid, basic sports car that's just too much fun to drive!
  12. Why all the repairs on an already gel-coated or painted body? Still, price is low for what it is... Would be a very cool project. Might even be able to get money invested in completing project out of it, (but not the value of your labor).
  13. I could be wrong, but I don't think heat will soften epoxy/glass fiber PCB's, because the epoxy has been cross-linked. That doesn't mean you can't use other plastic to do the same thing, just hardwire the LED's. In fact, you might be able to use thin, mirrored acrylic sheet.
  14. Does the LSD make the steering wheel force harder on the corners? That concern is what's kept me from doing it, in case my bride drives the car...
  15. I have the Vintage Rubber inner hatch seal and it worked fine. I still have to install the one-piece outer hatch seal, but can tell it's an improvement over the original three piece seals.
  16. Canadian Christmas? How about the Canadian Club!
  17. As I'm fond of saying: "Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from poor judgment". Looking backward, I must be very experienced...
  18. Elbow grease! (and any good abrasive polish compound)...
  19. I had these same louvers on my 1st Z and that's the correct key. You should be able to make a key pretty easily.
  20. Black oxide coating was original. You can order them, or use gun bluing to oxide color steel screws.
  21. Yep that's the car I saw. Being able to look at it several times over, I agree it does look like a Triumph Spitfire.
  22. I was watching the movie "Constantine" the other day. When he goes to Hell, he is walking across the top of a row of cars. One of them looked like a battered S30 Z.
