  1. Yep, probably more old Z's out here than most other states. I've seen four different 240Z's in my city alone. After buying mine, I found out my next door neighbor is original owner of a 72 automatic she still has in her garage and drives on an infrequent basis! There is even a shop about 2 miles from my house called "Datsonville" that's been here longer than me, (20 years). Kind Cool.
  2. Was at the boat yard and a green 73' Z parked near the chandlery. When the owner returned, we chatted for a bit. Very nice guy. The car needs new bumpers and a new interior. but the suspension & engine have been redone. It has an L28 w/ SU's that sounded really nice. Seemed like a very solid car. Told the owner about this site and suggested he check it out.
  3. Yes, the panels run large. They are trimed to allow for dimensional differences chassis to chassis. I had to trim mine almost 1/2" in a couple spots. Once fitted, they look great!
  4. This pretty much what I have on mine. No worry about atracting attention from police, but it still sounds like a sports car. Nice low "thump" at idle, but fairly quiet on city streets. In fact, I get more engine noise in the cabin than outside at speeds below 35 mph. Above 35, she starts to sing and at 60 mph she sounds very sweet when she passes by.
  5. I use a closed-end wrench to rotate the crank. Very Precise.
  6. That looks like "stick-on" molding, not the period correct "rivet-on" molding. Just get some adhesive remover from the local autoparts store and it should come off. Just take it slow so you don't damage the paint during removal. Be aware that it may be covering holes from pevious rivet-on molding that was removed, and the paint underneath the molding will look different, as it has not aged/faded with the exposed paint.
  7. Need a picture to see if it's the right molding. FWIW, I like the look of the side period correct, rivet-on molding, and it provides some protection from parking lot dings. However, it's a personal preferrence kind of thing. Some like it, some don't. What's nice is that the vinyl inserts are available in different colors. Here's a link to the correct style molding. http://www.customautotrim.com/products/moldings/rivet.htm
  8. Here's a guy parting-out a 1971 240z. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/1689722339.html
  9. If it's properly supported in the correct locations, on a solid, level surface so there is no movement, it's OK to sit in the car. Done it many times with my wife in the car while I'm at the wheels. The extra weight of one person doesn't make a difference. However, being a "belt & suspenders" kind of guy, I usually also leave the floor jack engaged under the diff or front crossmember, on whichever end of the car I'm working on.
  10. Actually, I bought the ducted spoiler specifically to have a location to mount the lights. Since I'm not running the car on the track, brake cooling is really not much of an issue. Besides, unless you run ducting back to the brakes, they really don't do that much to actually cool the brakes.
  11. I agree with Arne. If OEM bolts are available, go with them over generic bolts. If not, he is also correct that you need to use partially threaded bolts. Also, a flanged hex head is usually used in this type of application.
  12. Remember bolt grade is another factor. If I recall correctly, caliper mount bolts are typically metric grade 10.9. Perhaps one of the other members can confirm this to be the correct grade?
  13. If you haven't already, make certain you stiffen the chassis or that extra HP & torque will twist the chassis. What kind of power do you expect from that engine? Should be a real go'er!
  14. And it's even the right color...Nice!
  15. Not for a show car, but kinda cool. Got the wire from The Hot Rod Company. (link below). http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=spw%5Fclear25 Found it when searching for the old school NGK translucent blue spark plug wires. Made the a set up last weekend. Next time I'll use black plug insulators. They work great, but are not suitible for MSD ignitions. I'm planning to try different technics to dye the remnants blue like the old NGK wires.

    Car Quotes...

Jeff, Yep, that's the site I first site went to after getting your response. Then called a buddy who has the movie and he called me back with the second quote. What can I say, getting old sucks... You start combining movie quotes and even mixing up movies for that matter! "Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniff'n glue"
  17. Arne, Here's a very rough sketch of what cut-out & I installed in my previous Z roughly 20 years ago. (I only have powerpoint on this laptop and just made a straight line sketch). It was about 1" thinner on the sides, but the same width in the center mirror section. I think the banners from the group buy are the same size as the originals. - I just need to get used to it.

    Car Quotes...

I stand corrected. However, later in the movie he says "Whats behind me is not in front of me". I had combined the quotes... "You know how often my wife tried to get me to get rid of this car? Well that's German machinery for you. The car outlasted her."
  19. Good luck and hang-in there. While somewhat crude by modern standards, these are amazingly fun cars to drive! Best of luck with your project.

    Car Quotes...

Jeff, Perhaps what I saw was a different version of the movie. The guy I'm quoting was definetely not Raul Julia, (though I bet he great in that role!).

    Car Quotes...

What about the "rippoff" quote from the first cannonball run movie by the italian driver, stated as he rips off the rear view mirror: "What isa behind me is not ina fronta me, what isa behind me isa not important!" Kind of like the driving version of the movie "Airplane" when it comes to quotes.
