  1. That's where mine ended up. $7,800. That included some body work and a custom stripe.
  2. Will, The cloth is Interlude 166 Opal.
  3. In 20 years my 240Z might be required to powered by hydrogen fuel cells, but hopefully it will be running!
  4. Curses, Foiled Again! (while twirling my mustachio). Hmmm... Perhaps a light rub with fine bronze wool? That's worked for me before on varnish. I'll try a few things and let you know how it goes.
  5. Thanks for the input! I'll check them out.
  6. That's exactly what I'm planning to do. Would be done, but somewhere along the way I lost the center panel to my tailight finisher and had to buy one on eBay...
  7. Time to put rubber on my new 15" wheels and get them on the car. I'm thinking of 205 x60x15". In this size there aren't too many performance choices, but the car will be lowered 1" and I don't want any rubbing problems associated with wider tires. I'd even consider scaling down to 195x65 tire. Bridgestone's RE-960AS Pole Position looks pretty good, but I'm wondering what other's can recommend. I'm looking for a good "dry" performance tire that will also work in the rain. No requirement for snow or ice. I want something that rides reasonably and is not noisy on the freeway. I like the look of a directional tread, but this is secondary. Yes, I know, I want it all... My usage will be street use, (no street racing), and the occasional "fun-run" autocross. Any insight you can share?
  8. Don't know yet. I added .079" thick mineral filled EVA, (McMaster-Carr page 3427), in the doors and will also put it inside the rear side panels. It's what I used to replace the original sound insulation on the driver's side floor board. I've used it to deaden sound and vibration at work. Also, the neoprene closed cell foam bonded to the carpet seems to contibute more than I anticipated in damping out sound when the carpet is laid-down. Much better than I expected using a very unscientific "thump" test. Don't know if or what I'll use in place of the old horse-hair mats. Probably Dynamat or something similar. I'll see how it sounds without anything additional first.
  9. My votes: 1st Choice: Factory Grey 2nd Choice: Gunmetal Metallic 3rd Chioce: Semi-Gloss Black 4th Choice: Body Silver (looks too "modern" for my taste...)
  10. I think the Miata is a certainty, but unlikely to be highly "collectable" or recieve many honors because of the number built. Much like the Z but more so. The 90's Camero has a large following and the Viper will probably make it as well. There's probably a fair list of cars that could make the history books.
  11. Thanks all, Like most things, the pics look better than the reality. It's definitely not show car quality, but should be nice for a driver. Will post more pics as I make progress.
  12. What did I say? *confused look* Seriously, If I correctly understand who / what we are talking about, unless there was something happening in PM's, I don't think anything said was out-of-line. Blunt perhaps, but not out of line. I read "most" of the posts in question, but not all. My impression is that the issues were related more to the young lady's maturity and the age difference compared to those who frequently post on this site. To be more specific, I admit to finding the use of "texting" language on a BB to be slightly objectionable. Heck, if you read my posts, translating my "mis-types" is bad enough! I agree with Mike and think it is good that he remind us to maintain a minimum standard of behavior in our communications, especially since they are somewhat "anonymous" by virtue of the web. That said, I confess to possibly "Putting-Off" one of the female members when I first discovered this site. When the lady posted that she lived in my area, I suggested a casual meeting of Z owners in the area. (In a reply post, not a PM). I got the distinct impression she got the wrong idea. I re-read my posting and didn't see anything inappropriate, but then my wife occasionally tells me I'm clueless...
  13. To take my car there would require I drive it like in a Flintstones cartoon... It's got no engine, brakes, drivetrain, seats, etc... Plus, even if the car were ready, it's a bit of a road trip from the San Francisco area.
  14. As promised, a another progress pic of my 1972 240Z project. Here's a pic of the engine bay. It's about 90% ready for the engine. Still some details to take care of before I scratch things up installing the engine... Removed the differential on Sunday to find I need a new front mount. The rubber is starting to separate from the metal carrier so I ordered a new part. Was on my back last night painting the underside of the transmission tunnel and have a few tiny flecks of silver paint on my face to prove it... The fun continues!
  15. Thought I'd share these. This color combo mimics what I did on my previous 240Z. With the silver car it will be a bit monochromatic, but that's the effect I'm trying to achive. Carpets: Carpet is high grade indoor/outdoor material with sewn vinyl edging. I backed the carpet with 1/8" closed cell neoprene foam. This foam doesn't soak-up spilled liquid, good cushioning, easonable sound absorption and good recovery from compression. Seats: The seats were done by a local shop, (Jack's Auto Tops), with new foam from MSA. Jack does good work and is very reasonable. The seats need a bit of "massaging" and warmth to work out the wrinkles in the upper seat back, but other than that I realy like the way they turned-out. The insert cloth matches the carpet pretty well. I just started work gluing the interior vinyl in the hatch area. The MSA vinyl kit fits like a pair of baggy jeans with one leg too short. I'll make it work, but what a pain!
  16. OK... So what's the optimum pipe size for a Z? I have 2-1/2" and think it's to big. I'm thinking of going to 2".
  17. Nice Job! I really like the grey spoilers / tailight finisher with the green!
  18. I'm ready to re-install my engine bay wiring harness. It's that last major item I need to do in the engine bay prior to engine installation. I got a new main harness grommet, but how do I get it onto the harness? The grommet is not that elastic and from both ends, there are fairly large plugs that have to go through it. I'm not sure how to proceed and don't want to damage anything trying to force things. Last time I split it and glued it back together, but I know that's not the "right" way... Will post some progress pics of the car in the next few days after the harness is installed. Thanks in advance for your help!
  19. In our residential area, a city ordiance requires cars be moved every three days if parked on the street. Parking is scarce in my area, so my neighbors, (including me), will call-in cars left more than one week.

    Half Exhuast

On my 1972 240Z, the previous owner put a 2-1/2" single exhaust with a small, (10" long, 3" dia), cherry-bomb style resonator midway back. At the tail end it has an open split over/under angled tip at the back. (no muffler). The car sounded like a race car, but was unpleasantly load and attracted lots of attention. The first thing I plan to do when I get the car back together is to change the exhaust before a cop hears it and gives me a ticket!
  21. I'm Jealous! Nice looking Tiger. Have fun and go easy at first, lot's of throttle steer in the corners.
  22. Well said. I fit category #1. The one caveat is that if you stay on top of maintenance, those old british ragtops can be very reliable. Just not as relaible as more modern cars. My 1960 MGA didn't even leak oil because I replaced engine & tranny seals with modern elastomeric ones. The original main seals were actually made of felt! She never failed me away from home, though I did have a time or two locally where the brakes overheated before I figured-out the problem. Longest drive I took in the MGA was to to San Luis Obisbo , (4-1/2 hours each way), one summer weekend. She was pretty, but the seats were not very comfortable for extended drives and it lacked luggage space, not to mention the sun & wind burns!
  23. Rob, Keep us appaised of future events. I'll try to come when my car's done, probably next Spring on a dry day.
  24. Check the usual parts sources, Courtesy Nissan, Motorsport Auto, Black Dragon, etc. If they don't have them, I think I recently saw some on eBay.
