  1. Look for a voltage leak or lamp that doesn't go out. Look at your glove box and the engine bay light to make sure they are off. My glove box light switch had been pushed back and didn't go out. Over a couple days, battery was too low to start. Bent the mount back out, and no more problem...
  2. I had to learn this the hard way on my 2nd Z... Wish you had told me this 20 years ago!
  3. Great work! Really wish I could weld like that. I wouldn't trust my welds to hold a banana... The dash repair looks good as well.
  4. Went for a 3 hour ride today. Highway 101 South to Highway 92 West toward Half Moon Bay on the coast, without much traffic until close to Half Moon Bay. South on Highway 1 with the ocean on our right to Highway 84 East. 84 is nice and twisty through the hills. Turned North onto 280, then East on 380, to 101 South back home. Car ran great and cool, but temp gauge acted a bit strange. We waved at nice looking 280Z going the opposite direction on Highway 84. Was than anybody from here? Sorry, no pics as I forgot my camera.
  5. Looks just like the A/C mount in my neighbors (dealer installed) car. I have a black fingernail from smashing a my finger after the wrench slipped while trying to loosen the belt tensioner on her A/C...
  6. Is the car from the SF Bay Area? I almost went to look at one locally that could be it's twin. They are great cars!
  7. Nice to see you back! Visit more often.
  8. I had to cut more than one full coil from my front springs when I installed new Eibach springs. My car sat about 1" high in the front. I used a Dremel rotary tool and thick carbide cutting disks. Took about 15 minutes to cut each spring. I then ground the coil end to better fit in the mount, though I probably didn't need to do that. My car now sits level front to back.
  9. Ritchie, My car is mostly a weekend driver, but I plan to display it again this year at Burlingame's "Cars in the Park" on Saturday July 25th along with my neighbor's 240Z and my buddy's 1097 Capri. There are usually over 200 cars of all types. Below are pics from last year. Love to have you come by to chat. If your car's running, bring it to the show! Julio
  10. Too long a drive for me, but sounds like fun!
  11. Welcome to another bay area Z owner!
  12. Still waiting for you guys buried in snow to send some of that water to northern Kalifornia...
  13. Clever,_Where are the oil slick and ejection seat switches?
  14. Engine bays are often painted black to hide a color change or stained / faded body color paint. Is it a crime? No, and it can look very nice. Will it potentially hurt the resale value of the car? Probably. My vote falls in the body color camp. However, if I were refreshing a car to be my daily driver, I would using black paint in the engine bay. It's easy to apply so that it looks good and is a way to save money by doing it yourself. I would not POR-15 it though for reasons stated above. I feel the same about undercoat. Mine came to me undercoated, (from the dealer according to the paperwork), but I wish it wasn't.
  15. You have probably seen this, but if not... My wife forwarded this to me today.
  16. Squirt a little gas or starter fluid into the carb throats. Will likely crank right up
  17. Finished installing all new cooling hoses in my neighbor's 72' 240Z, along with a new heater valve. Not hard, but not a "comfortable" job with your head down in the foot well. Her temp control wire was broken, so I had to replace it with music wire from the local hobby store. Now I just need to troubleshoot why her fan hasn't worked for 15 years. Plan to start by testing if the blower fan operatess using my 12 VDC battery charger.
  18. Check the fuel filter and for rust in the fuel bowls. That caused a similar problem in my previous Z.

    Drat!

Sorry to hear that. I'm too far away, but perhaps some closer CZCC members can help you with R&R of the engine.
  20. If no rust, seems to be priced about right, at least for California...
