  1. Given it's fine until you hit 50 mph, it seems to point to a balance issue. As others have said, I suspect the wheels / tires.
  2. Before finally replacing it, I wrapped my brake vacuum hose with electrical tape to seal it, which worked very well. Ran that way for two years...
  3. Martin, I was in your fair city last year. Very nice place. Nice looking Z. Try to keep your Z inside in the winter if you can. Unlike your 240SX, the early Z's had no rust proof coating on the steel and tend to rust from the inside out.
  4. I have machines with both Win 7 Pro and Win 8.1. Win 7 is by far more user friendly, even though my Win 8.1 machine has a touchscreen. Microsoft tried to make the same interface work on a computer as on a phone or tablet. While I have no issue using 8.1, the work flows are cumbersome... I plan to convert my Win 8.1 machine to Win 7. There's a good reason most corporate customers are sticking with Win 7.
  5. Wow! That looks like a pro restoration!
  6. Replaced most of the coolant hoses in my neighbor's 240Z, with exception of the under-dash heater hoses. No leaks, just preventative maintenance. The original dealer installed A/C makes the interior hose connections very difficult to get at, and I had to remove the A/C evaporator. Her heater valve was completely frozen, so I have to order a new one before I can complete the job, probably next weekend. I think the heater hoses and valve had never been replaced!
  7. Good to know. McMaster-Carr to the rescue again!
  8. The 260 is certainly worthy of a full restoration, but at the end of the day, the decision also depends on what you plan to do with the car. If your goal is to restore and flip the car for profit, neither may be a good option. Cost of a restoration typically is more than immediate market value. The 240Z is considered more desirable by collectors, especially the earlier years. Given you won't have the correct size engine & transmission, it will be considered a resto-mod and worth a bit less than an "original" car. The 260Z will still be marketable, but perhaps to a somewhat smaller number of buyers. If you plan to keep the car, they are pretty much equal in terms of value for your investment. Just my 2 cents...

Think I'll have to weld one of those custom door latches onto my car!
  10. I'd definitely consider the duffel bag for use at car shows and road trips. In fact, I'm going to show it to my wife as a hint...
  11. If you have access to a machine shop, you can mill the bad section off and "pin" a replacement section on. Would not be difficult to make a replacement tower.
  12. I agree with the others. No time like now to attempt a repair or send off for a professional re-cover. You will likely never remove the dash again.
  13. The red interior really offsets the silver exterior and "pops". Always a great combo. Mine started-out silver w/ red, but the red interior was badly faded, and in some panels were sun damaged and cracked beyond repair. Red interior parts (at that time) were hard to find, so I decided to duplicate the black & grey interior I did on my previous white Z. It's a bit mono-chromatic, but I like it! You have a great looking car! (And I even like the color...)
  14. For that price they should be plated in sterling silver...
  15. I was second owner of my first Z, but paperwork indicated the stripes were an after-market item installed at the dealer. I'm pretty sure mine were from Trim-Brite also. It was a persimmon red 73' Z with yellow-beige stripes of same design as yours, with black / gold-metallic edge lines. Color combo sounds kinda yucky, but it actually looked good and nicely highlighted the lines of the car.
  16. Similar stripe as my 1st 240Z many years ago. It does look like a good starting point.
  17. Hagarty Insurance car value info seems pretty close, if perhaps slightly optimistic. They have pretty accurately reflected the growth in S30 values. Problem is the economic recession has had a BIG impact on affordable classic car values. Classic car prices rise with demand, and demand increases when people have more disposable income.
  18. I'm a Cal Poly SLO alum as well. Great place to live and visit. Ditto on letting us know next time you come up to the Bay Area.
  19. I'll have to see one "in-person". Based on the pics they look a bit too "Jetsons" for my taste. Lines just don't seem to flow.
  20. Send us all the frozen water you have. 100 year drought here in the Kalifornia's SF Bay area. Finally got some rain this week, but it won't be enough. I anticipate water rationing this Summer, which will include no washing of classic Z's...
  21. I have sold stuff on eBay, but require payment via PayPal. That seems to work pretty well.
  22. Made two more attempts at reproducing a decent insert that failed. I'm working on getting access to another 3D printer to make a "positive" from polyurethane, from which I could make a soft silicone mold. I looked into having a custom prototyping shop print one, but the cost was prohibitive.
  23. Yep, same place as my neighbor's "dealer installed in 1972 A/C drain tube exits.
  24. I haven't heard what's going on with the owner of the mashed hood, so you may well still have a shot at getting the hood. I just offered to see if I could help him locate one. The rest, really, is up to him, (or his body shop)...
